The hotel is near to beach and offers nice ocean view rooms. The rooms were spacious and clean. Staff was friendly and courteous. The walk along beach is nice and has many restaurants if you feel like eating outside hotel.
We booked a week long stay in this hotel as it seemed to be the best value 5 star hotel in the area. We were informed soon after booking about the improvement works that would be going on during our stay. We called the hotel to discuss this further and were correctly informed that one of the pools would be shut during our stay and that there would be noise disruption during the day. We had the option to cancel but decided to continue with our booking. We were pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of our room and its furnishings. The balcony and bathroom were larger than usual for a standard room. The stand-out features of this hotel are definitely the food and the restaurant staff. The breakfast is the most impressive either of us had ever experienced. It's outstanding for both quality and choice for both hot and cold food. You can try about 10 different kinds of juice and if that's not enough you can have a selection of freshly made smoothies..alongside a glass of bubbly! The restaurant staff are efficient, attentive and friendly. Jonathan, one of the waiters, is particularly excellent. We ate at the hotel buffet for dinner one night and found that it was a similar level - you could try everything from paella to roast beef..to handmade sushi! With a range of desserts, petit fours and cheese for afterwards. We had lunch in the pool bar on several days as the food was similarly priced to the beachside cafes and of a much higher standard. Drinks were also competitively priced. We made use of the one day free spa voucher we were presented with on arrival and were very impressed with the facilities which are of a high standard, including an outdoor area with jacuzzi as well as a range of different indoor spa pools and saunas. We liked it so much we decided to go back for a further spa day with a massage. Overall, our week away was a lovely experience and the quality of this hotel and its staff made up for the works going on. The pool area was still pleasant despite the noise disruption and there was never any fight for sun beds as the hotel provides enough for all guests. Thank you to the staff at Gran Tacande!
This was our hotel of choice, however at the moment extensive renovations taking place, which makes it very noisy during the day, only one pool open large areas of pools and gardens closed off. We were told work was going on but not the extent of it, and we're assured all pools would be open, staff very helpful although selection of rooms offered was not great. These renovations are going to take some time, and I would not recommend staying there at the moment. I am sure once renovations are complete it will be back to 5 stars again, disappointing, after suffering long period of illness we were really looking forward to this holiday.
'On arrival for our 16th visit to the Gran Tacande Tenerife we were disappointed to find the amount of work taking place. On booking we had been told there was some 'renovation work' taking place and may be 'some noise'. But clearly it was reconstruction of the pool area and one wing of the hotel with a lot of noise! We had constructive dialogue with the duty manager and client experience staff and it was agreed that pre visit communication had been poor and we may have made a reservation later in the year based on what we found on arrival. However a visit to the Gran Tacande is not just to a hotel and pool - it is a total experience. During our stay the sky was blue, the sun still continued to shine each day and the sea and beach as inviting. The hotel food and services were as good as usual and staff from cleaners, to reception and customer experience, to bar and dinning continued to smile, be as helpful as always and provide the usual high standards. Before we departed we were shown a number of rooms that had been renovated and updated to the new standard. They are bright, airy, well equipped to modern standards and we were very impressed. The holiday did not start well but we enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be visiting again'
We have just returned from a great stay at this hotel. While, it is true, there is certainly a lot of renovation going on at the moment, meaning that the majority of the pool area is closed and the surrounding area is a little noisy during the day, the hotel itself, was perfectly good. We were allocated a room in a relatively quiet area of the hotel, meaning that during the day did we hear much of the construction. Furthermore, we were notified about the renovation well in advance and decided to stay nevertheless. Which I believe was a good choice. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. In particular, I ordered champagne, flowers and strawberries to the room for my anniversary which was delivered perfectly as asked. We also wanted to thank Luca who was always entertaining us by offering simple games at the pool in exchange for cocktails. The location of the hotel is excellent, close by to shops, Playa El Duque and a 10 minute taxi ride from the Golf Costa Adeje. Plenty to do in the area. All in all, we found the stay to be quite good and would like to return again when the renovation is complete.
Let's start with the INEXCUSABLE - the utter contempt the owners and management of this hotel have for their paying customers! At no point, before, during or after I booked this hotel (via Booking.com) did the hotel explain the magnitude of the renovation works (picture attached of area beyond small pool being dug up) that were taking place during our stay. The e-mail (copy attached) arrived via Booking.com four days before we were to arrive at the hotel, but as you can see, it only mentions 'minor auditive disruptions at certain moments' and 'work in some limited areas of the solarium'. This was their way of saying the main pool, surrounding areas, restaurant, pool bar, etc, would be completely closed off and heavy engineering (pneumatic drills, masonry drilling/sawing, etc) works would be ongoing from early morning (0800) until early evening (1900). The remaining pool area is uninhabitable, unless you are both deaf and have also lost your sense of feeling - the constant vibration from the pneumatic drills! We had to go to the beach every day and incur a cost of 19.05 Euros every day for loungers and umbrella! The hotel owners/management would have know several weeks or even months ago (another TripAdvisor article mentioned being informed 8 weeks ago!) when this major works would be being undertaken, but they decided to conceal it from their paying customers, not only those that had already booked, but those still booking. Their own web site makes no mention of any works being undertaken, never mind heavy construction works happening from breakfast until dinner! This, I find utterly inexcusable and indefensible from any hotel, never mind one professing to be 5 stars! Now for the Good: 1. After complaining more or less on arrival in our room, to the Deputy Manager, I was given an upgrade, from a Double room with sea view, to a Senior Suite with partial sea view. This room upgrade, along with a free evening 'buffet meal' for my parents, who were also staying locally (incidentally in a 4 star hotel which was also being renovated, but which was far more accommodating to their customers as compensation for the ongoing works, which were notified in advance), was accepted as full compensation for the inexcusable actions of the hotel, mainly as I had no other real option other than to spend another £1000 at one of the neighbouring 'true' 5 star hotels. 2. Also good were the staff (cleaning, restaurant, etc) and the quality of food, which was one of the better buffets I have had in a holiday hotel As for the 'fairly' Bad, well, they are not really bad things, but things that a 5 star hotel should be doing, irrespective of major building works being undertaken: 1. Only bottled water provided on day of arrival, even in the Senior Suite we were upgraded to 2. No decent bar to have a drink, before or after a meal. The only bars open were the lobby bar and the function room where the 'third rate' entertainment takes place in the evening 3. The swimming pool and surrounding area that remained open was of very poor quality, pavement area being eroded badly (see picture), and a potential health and safety hazard to walk on To summarise, a hotel that does not deserve your custom, either now or in the future when updated, as the owners/management can not be trusted to tell their customers the facts and have no respect for their paying customers.
Our 4th visit to this hotel was in February when it was absolutely lovely. We booked to go back 26 April - 3 May as we loved the place. Several days before returning we received a very short email saying there was work being carried out at the hotel, but nothing to suggest there would be a building site where the large pool had been! At check-in, the young lady on reception ringed the unavailable areas within the hotel, we were aghast! On a plus note, we were given the room we had requested which meant we were had a quieter balcony not overlooking the building site. I agree with others that I don't understand why a hotel with such a fabulous rating and reputation would choose to remain open during the work (or at least offer a warning and reduction in cost). I can't fault the food at breakfast, nor the service but if you were expecting a relaxing chill holiday, it was never going to happen. Also, if you had booked a holiday with very young children, the cold water pool isn't suitable as it has no shallow areas. Having been to the hotel several times before, we chose to sunbathe on the San Sebastian terrace as far away as possible from the work, dust and noise. Its a shame really, we were loyal customers but I think we might look elsewhere next time.
We have just returned from our fourth visit to the Gran Tacande. If the only fault you could find with a hotel was its staff then there would be nothing to complain about because they have been blessed, in the main, and have been since we first visited, with the best. Ruth, Moussa, Omar, the Sushi Chef and the rest too many to remember Also (The experience Agents) Marina 1, Thank you for listening, Marina 2 For your smile & Ruth/Rose for the great table at the El Mirador. (It must have cost you a fortune) What made us return to the Tacande was A.The Staff B,The Breakfast C.The location Best Wishes to you with your renovations, we look forward, soon, to enjoying the new areas. Management, NOA,(For your memory) BEA (The white breads specialist) (Don't tell anyone but I swear I saw both of them have a giggle) and the woman with the great collection of jackets, who they let out of the office in 2017 to walk among us and grace us with her presence, Christina. (Thanks for the voucher) ;-) :-) :-) Thank you all.
At the beginning our welcome was not the best. we knew The hotel was having construction works but we weren't informed the all the sea pw rooms were under construction and two of the main pools were not working. We booked a sea view room with three beds for two adults and two children. We were given a room with mattresses all over and one sofa one bed and one bathroom. We complained and that got us a connect room with no sea view. But much better than the previous room. We got free massages and spa visits since the pools were closed. Otherwise, The hotel is located in a nice area not far from siam park and siam mall. Really close to the beach and many restaurants. The pool that was open had sea water and a jacuzzi was also open. The wifi worked well. The breakfasts were included and excellent. The dinner was expensive, but worth it.The connect room was very spacious. 20 min drive from the airport. The pool biking was great and aqua aerobics classes were very fun. Would have liked there to be a tennis court and a room for teenagers. Cleaning was very good and the cleaners leave chocolates for the adults and children. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very happy with our stay.
This was a repeat stay and because of the super awesome experience 3 years ago, we decided to come back. We were informed by BA holidays that some rooms would be refurbished (minor). I wanted to make sure exactly what was going on so I contacted the hotel directly. Mrs Gomez from Gran Tacande assured me that they would refurbish some rooms by blocks. There would be some minor disturbances but not mayor (email send to me in March). Nothing else was mentioned (big pool closed etc). So all good right? Reality: it's a building site and the pool is closed. if you like drills and dust, be my guest. Big high five for the staff at reception. They tried everything to soften it. Thanks to them and BA holidays, we're moved to another hotel nearby without costs within the hour. A big question to the owners of Gran Tacande: why do you let guests stay in a building site? Why do you charge your guests full price and let your guests stay in a hotel that is not fully operational? Where is your customer centricity? You're destroying a well build up hotel reputation overnight for the sake of earning some pennies. You should have closed your hotel, take the hit short term, and offer your guests a wonderful experience when you reopen. We really liked your hotel 3 years ago. I've seen some comments from the hotel on this site, playing down the building work disturbances. Don't take their word on it.
