A few reviews describe this as a stately home..pushing it a bit; its a well preserved country house hotel with a modern wedding wing attached. The old house has been well preserved, with a terrace overlooking scenic grounds. Rooms in the old house are classically decorated in keeping with the building. In the new wing, rooms lack the character of the older house but are modern ,functional and comfortable. Stayed as a wedding guest; food and service was surprisingly good (catering for 200 can be a challenge). Breakfast was very good; proper sausages and some of the best black pudding I've had in years. Ample parking, and within easy reach of plenty of the moors and coast.
Spent two days recently at this lovely manor hotel. We were allocated a suite in the new wing . very relaxing with no noise to disturb guests. Food first class served by excellent staff. We certainly will be returning, soon I hope.
This is the first time we have visited this establishment but certainly not the last, the grounds of this hotel were kepted very well and the building was very clean and tidy, although this hotel is busy with other things during the day and evening there was never alot of noise, the rooms are spacious and the bed which was a double was very big, although on a coach holiday the meals and staff were exceptional nothing was to much trouble for any of them, the waiting staff were mainly college or university people but they were very polite and courteous and their parents should be proud of them.If your visiting North Yorkshire and wanting somewhere to stay this place won't disappoint.KjUnderhill
This property is out of a BBC drama (Downtown Abbey), picture book English manor. I wandered the hallways before I could even find my room. The rooms are modern enough, with wi-fi, clean, hot water in bath and clean bed sheets. They serve a typical English breakfast, I tried both the Eggs Benedict as well as the full Yorkshire breakfast, though I would skip the "pudding" offered with the latter. The grounds are well kept and there is bar and restaurant, latter needs reservations I understand. This hotel is the big deal in town, weddings, events, x-mas parties etc. are all held here, so it might be busy when you check in. Enjoy your stay in this quaint hotel.
The Gisorough Hall Hotel is very big and the rooms are large as well with a bath and shower and two sinks as well. The grounds are laid out lovely with Lammas in the next field. The area is good to explore Museum's including Mousey Thompson Visitor centre, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The food was very good with full English . Breakfast, but though the evening meal was good it would have been better with more vegetables.
As son as you arrive to the hotel you realize that your experience is not going to be average; located in a quiet place, the building itself it's just something worth: the stairs, common áreas, corridors, furniture...everything has a touch of distintion really different. Rooms are well equiped (full bath, iron, hair dryer..) and staff is extremly pleasant. Breakfast full of options to choose, both cold and hot (prepared just as you ask for it). Of course this has a cost, but I wouldn't say it is a expensive hotel
I travel to North Yorkshire at least 4 times a year and by far the Gisborough Hall Hotel is the place to stay. A very fine breakfast every morning (English, European or American) awaits you and does a great job of getting you off to a good start. Being a rather ignorant American, I was unaware of the equipment available in each persons room to brew coffee. One finds a glass apparatus with a plunger contained within that allows you to put coffee granules within and add boiling water so that all grounds are enveloped, extracted, but isolated by the plunger-filter assembly. The plunger - filter prevents grounds from entering your cup! You just press down on the plunger (see picture) to get more of the perfectly brewed coffee without getting grounds in your cup - how clever! I've had many a fine dinner at Gisborough Hall but I thought I would share a picture of their classic Fish and Chips to satisfy all my American friends (see picture). Gisborough Hall does a very fine fish and chips but to tell the truth, the town of Chester in the UK and Wrexham in Wales has higher bragging rights in my opinion! Nevertheless, the beauty of North Yorkshire makes up for all the petty little issues described above!
The room was booked back in march for a May occasion so it was not last minute. On arrival check in was slow...new computer system as a result in change of ownership. That was understandable but it was painfully slow and not handled well. The room with a view wasn't. It was up in the roof with a view of the railings through roof lights and the bath took was unacceptable for the amount of money being charged. Whilst we waited for the duty manager to come and see us we went and had tea. It was excellent freshest of bread and well presented. We finished but still no duty manger so I went and found her. We were given another room but the experience was soured and the level of professionalism needs upgrading bearing in mind the amount paid. Breakfast was excellent. Pity about the initial experience.
Lovely hotel set in amazing country side views. The rooms were really nice,it was 27 degrees when we went so the room was boiling and no air con which was one down side but great room non the less. Guisborough itself, is about 10 minutes walk away with loads of bars and restaurants. The staff were great.
