A beautiful spot on the lakes edge. The unit was warm, well appointed and quiet. Stayed 2 nights and a few minutes walk to the milford coach stop, supermarket and dining. A very relaxing place to stay

Easy to check-in and out. The common kitchen and lounge area was very clean and convenient. The en-suite room we were assigned was facing the street and was noisy during the day, but more quiet at night. The staff was very kind.

Be very careful if you book this place through a third party like Expedia. When we arrived at our "cabin," it had no bathroom, just a grotty public toilet and public showers a block away (it was 30 degrees out). You definitely would not want to use these facilities in bare feet. Unfortunately, neither the "holiday park" nor Expedia was willing to give us any of our money back. Luckily we were able to book a place at a hotel in town for about the same money that included breakfast for 4, 2 bedrooms, and 2 full bathrooms. Buyer beware - read ALL the small print on every single room.

Camping hotel

Not what i was expecting. Not sure if that was my fault or theirs. I reserved a room with 2 beds & a bunk bed. That's exactly what i got: showers, bathroom, etc were in a separate building 2-3 buildings away (& no body wash/shampoo in the showers). This was basically a campground/RV park with some rooms with beds. Now, for camping, it was a very nice place, easy walk to restaurants, clean, etc. And the price was good. We were there for 2 nights. We decided to stay in the area 1 more night. I asked if i could extend 1 more night. The price they offered was double what i had paid on hotels.com for the original reservation. When i gagged on that they offered me a price only 50% higher. Instead, i booked the last night at a real hotel with bathroom & shower for about what they were asking or slightly less. I don't want to dis them too much - if i was camping & wanted to stay in town, it could have been great. But since i was expecting an actual hotel room with ensuite bathroom, it was disappointing.

We stayed in one of the Matai lodges and it was fantastic. Very comfortable stay and close to town. Staff were wonderful and welcoming and gave us a complimentary hot tub hour for our honeymoon.
