Everything is excellent in Barclay hotel with our little dog. However, this afternoon we went to hotel restaurant to eat with our mittelspitz, and the young friendly ladies said wellcome. We had ordered drinks when the young blondhaired guy came to say that unfortunately this is a family restaurant and dogs are not allowed. We were really shocked because our dog had beheaved really good. But we wont let them spoil our holiday. There are many nice dog-friendly restaurants in Tartu!
Hotel was really vintage and old fashioned. The keychain weighted more than my purse but was a nice touch. Would have to push the lift door. Nothing automatic really. Clean room with limited options. Nice staff. Breakfast was somewhat simple and lacking in options, but ok for any kind of trip.
A very good hotel in the absolute center of the city. Receptionist was professional and very helpful in fixing breakfast to those in the group without pre-paid ones. Rooms were clean and cosy. Selection at breakfast buffet a bit boring but fresh and tasty to the price of 8€. Free parking on the back yard. No budget but less than mid-range priced place. Can be recommended!
We stayed 2 nights in a suite with teraace on top floor. Wery ascetic but clean. Jacuzzi but no intructions so we didn't try. Wide terrace but only 2 simple chairs... Front desk service friendly but only every second clerk spoke english so that you could ask a bit more complicated questions. We were lucky to get parking on yard thanks to anice servant. A standard breakfast buffet but could have been served more nicely way. Cannot recommend for guests expecting more than 2nd class.
As I was trying to check out after my business trip sponsored by my employer, the hotel manager showed up and claimed it was illegal in Europe to charge a credit card other than the hotel guest's (such as my employer's card, which they had on file). I've since checked, and this is untrue. I explained that if I paid for an overseas expense with my own card, I'd pay a percentage fee. The manager said I was lying and this was impossible in any country. I was offended and decided to leave the hotel, which would force them to charge my employer's card, but when I came back down with my luggage the receptionist was crying because the manager had told her that if she couldn't make me pay with my card, he would charge HER for my stay. I found this shocking -- he accused a customer of lying, lied himself about European law, and then took out his anger on his employee. So I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you're paying for your own stay, and even so, be wary of the sadistic and incompetent manager!
Barclay hotel is suitably located nearby University of Tartu, Emma river and main square of the Tartu city. Rooms are nice, staff members are very friendly and breakfast is just awsome. I have hardly found such a wonderful breakfast as a complementary stuff. This hotel would always be my first choice if I go to Tartu again.
I stayed in Barclay hotel for one night together with a bigger group. The hotel was dated but clean and ok for the price. The front desk didn't really speak English and they felt a bit rude. The room was in good size, there was a big window towards a park. Breakfast was good. The reason we stayed here was that all the other hotels were full. I was positively surprised! I could stay here again. Location is perfect!
This hotel have seen a lot and suffered in time. Stayed there with my family as there was no place to stay else in Tartu. Rooms are weary and small. Breakfast was OK and the lobby bar called Ylikool was decent and worth to visit.
First of all, the room rate was messed up. Then next day our room was not cleaned but marked "cleaned". The receptionist reported to the manager but we did not hear a word of apology from management. Our colleague on the 5th floor could not have good sleep because of the noise of street and inside hotel.
I had a good night sleep. The hotel is nothing special (rather dated) but the front desk staff has been very helpful to me. Also the hotel offers a free parking (limited space) and the location is quite good and near shops & restaurants. Room is dated but clean. Beds are old and very soft but I enjoyed a quiet night sleep and was a happy guest. Internet works well but the rooms are not equipped with the standard we would expect nowadays. For me I missed the electricity plugs near the bed.
