I stayed in Barclay hotel for one night together with a bigger group. The hotel was dated but clean and ok for the price. The front desk didn't really speak English and they felt a bit rude. The room was in good size, there was a big window towards a park. Breakfast was good. The reason we stayed here was that all the other hotels were full. I was positively surprised! I could stay here again. Location is perfect!
This hotel have seen a lot and suffered in time. Stayed there with my family as there was no place to stay else in Tartu. Rooms are weary and small. Breakfast was OK and the lobby bar called Ylikool was decent and worth to visit.
First of all, the room rate was messed up. Then next day our room was not cleaned but marked "cleaned". The receptionist reported to the manager but we did not hear a word of apology from management. Our colleague on the 5th floor could not have good sleep because of the noise of street and inside hotel.
I had a good night sleep. The hotel is nothing special (rather dated) but the front desk staff has been very helpful to me. Also the hotel offers a free parking (limited space) and the location is quite good and near shops & restaurants. Room is dated but clean. Beds are old and very soft but I enjoyed a quiet night sleep and was a happy guest. Internet works well but the rooms are not equipped with the standard we would expect nowadays. For me I missed the electricity plugs near the bed.
Comfortable rooms and very central location however the reception staff are not helpful at all either through lack of knowledge or just poor experience. Basic breakfast. Staff speak good English. Noise such as people speaking and phones ringing heard easily from room to room.
Centrally located. Former soviet aesthetics. Functional and good size junior suite for affordable price. Breakfast is ok but its a 3 stars so no food service at night and no swimming pool or sauna treats. All in all a convenient choice for short stay in Tartu.
Nice basic hotel at the best location. At the other side is old town and on the other side the best shopping area. A bit of history makes the building more interesting. Rooms are very basic, a bit worn out, but clean and be was very nice. At weekends music from the Casino next door can be heard very weill in rooms located at the Casino end of the building. I would recommend to take rooms as close to the lift as possible. Rooms facing to the park are a bit gloomy. They served breakfast until 10 am (weekends 11 am) so we could sleep long in the mornings. Though the breakfast is quite modest you can fulfill your stomach.
This is an older but nicely maintained hotel, just a block or two from the main square, and an easy walk from the bus station (maybe five blocks). Staff was very friendly and helpful, with suggestions for restaurants, tourist areas, etc. Breakfast was adequate. Really liked the bathtub, and was enthusiastic about the Jacuzzi-style jets after a long day of walking around - but it was so noisy that I turned them off after just a minute. WiFi worked well. The windows opened a bit, which was nice to get some fresh air. My only significant complaint is that my room was directly over some sort of nightclub, so while the first night in the hotel was relaxing, the second was a disaster with throbbing music until 3am. If you're staying over the weekend, request a room away from the nightclub, unless you're a party animal!
The room was beautiful and modern, tastefully decorated with a nice view of the park. The bathroom was ugly, but clean and functional. Very comfortable beds. I would give the hotel four stars if it wasn't for the breakfast. The selection wasn't great to begin with, and by 9 am they had run out of most varieties. They were constantly out of coffee as well. There was just one person working the breakfast shift, and he seemed more interested in his smartphone than the needs of the guests.
I chose this hotel for the affordable price including breakfast and for location. Location is very central and great as parks are surrounding the hotel from the front (across the street) and from behind (Toomemägi). Reception personnel is very friendly and helpfull and my room fit the purpose. There is no AC but windows could be opened and the bathroom was modern. I was afraid that there would be water all over the bathroom after shower but it was designed so well that the floor drain collected the water astonishingly well. Hotel was tidy. First morning the breakfast was compact to a limited extent, something for everyone and the coffee was good and to be consumed as much you wished. Second morning (probably for the low season) I should have had a pre-order for breakfast (but nobody gave me the form) but it didn't become a problem and I was able to choose from a certain selection of dishes for the breakfast when I entered the breakfast room. Needless to say, I do prefer buffet breakfast. Bar or restaurant services were only available at breakfast time, but there is plenty to choose from very nearby. (Eduard Vilde / Vilde Lokaal & Pub very positive experience). I did have problems to make the TV working but I managed without help. Very limited options for TV channels, mostly German, one Estonian (ETV), BBC news and Euronews and Russian tv chanel. TV had a sleep timer. WiFi worked well. Room had carpeted floor and thick curtains could be pulled in front of the window. Towel radiator worked. Also digital safe, ashtray on a table(?), bed was firm (most people like that) and there was a minibar (needs to be confirmed with credit card). At this moment the accommodation seems to be much more expensive than the moment I booked my room and for the present prices I would consider all available possibilities. With low season prices would have another try.
