We spent two nights here and had an outstanding experience. Big thanks to Augustin and his amazing staff. Communication was excellent and we had no issues during our stay. Easy walk to the beach. Breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend the omelette and avocado toast! Really enjoyed the live music as well. Thank you for memorable stay.

The team at Refugio was incredibly helpful and informative. We got help booking tours before we even got to the hotel. The hotel is very central, with easy access to the beach, shops, restaurants and clubs. The restaurant has a great menu. Highly recommend the cocktails!

Great vibes, location and breakfasts! Agustin was super helpful sending through all the information we needed before we arrived and giving lots of recommendations, including nearby beaches which we wouldn’t have known about. Agustin and all the staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome. There is noise (music) but to be expected and ear plugs are provided for anybody who needs them.

Wonderfully helpful staff, well air-conditioned rooms, and the included breakfast has several options and is delicious! It is unfortunate that the neighboring business is quite loud at night, but given the relatively low cost for a location so close to central Tamarindo, it was worth the price. Take care not to keep food in the room though, with no fridge or storage areas the ants will find it VERY quickly.

I’m so glad I found Refugio Lodge for my stay in Tamarindo! From the moment I booked, I felt like more than just a guest—Agustin and the team made me feel like a friend. Agustin was amazing with communication, always available to chat, offer great local recommendations, help with booking shuttles or anything else I needed. The entire staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. The cafe is the morning gathering space where you’ll always find amazing coffee — roasted on site, and a delicious breakfast. Afternoons and evenings feature live music, flowing drinks at the bar, and dancing into the night. The lodge itself has a really heartwarming origin story behind it—definitely ask about it when you visit! And as a bonus, the sweetest cat named Pega lives on site and loves greeting guests. I loved here so much that I actually got a tattoo of her before I left for home! I’m already looking forward to coming back with friends and family. Refugio Lodge is truly a gem in Tamarindo, don’t miss it. Pura vida!

Great property, they were very helpful and knowledgeable about surrounding places to see! Agustin helped us greatly when our shuttle out of Tamarindo canceled 5 hours before and managed to find an alternative for us! Overall, very easy to walk anywhere in town from Refugio. Expect some noise at night but they offer earplugs and truthfully it never was bad enough to need them

I want to thank the team at Refugio for making my stay most welcoming and hospitable! Tucked in the heart of Tamarindo, the beach, nightlife, shopping, and best of restaurants are a short walk away. I was greeted by Juan and Agustin, who really made the stay feel at home. Great individuals who made sure I was at ease, comfortable and beyond. They were very communicative and ensured a peaceful stay. As soon as I arrived early, they made sure everything was accommodated and even let me check in early. The dinner + breakfast they provided on site as well was also PHENOMENAL. Their coffee shop may also be the best in tamarindo. The only thing you may be concerned about is the noise of the nearby clubs, but they even provide ear plugs. The rooms are clean and spacious, with large beds, clean bathroom, safe, fast Wifi and air conditioning. Overall the vibes were incredible and I would surely stay again. The hotel has everything you need for a stay in Tamarindo. While it isn’t a luxury all-inclusive, it offers everything else you need for a welcomed, comfortable stay. Thank you Refugio, I shall be back!

Our stay at Refugio was very romantic and pleasant. The front office manager, Augustin, did a very good job personalizing our experience to the best of his ability. He helped me pick out the perfect surf shop and beach location for waves and was exceptional being available for questions throughout our stay. The coffee their was fantastic and me and my girlfriend loved his food recommendations.

Fantastic breakfast and coffee included!!

We loved the food, friendly staff, comfy bed, shower, cold AC. There is no mini fridge. But there is a grocery store across the street if the kitchen is closed at Refugio.
