What I liked - Awesome location; incredible view from my room; pool is amazing What I did not like - Very remote location; cannot swim in the beach since it is very rocky area; road leading to the property is full of potholes - JW Marriott has enough clout to talk to the local officials and get the road fixed; restaurant offerings could be improved inside the property; pool bar is so so.

Beautiful property with a lot of things to do . Perfect sunset.Different restaurants and good to choose from. I enjoyed the sos facilities, my facial was The best. Service at restaurants was also pleasant. I would definitely recommend this property for family couples or anyone that enjoys the nature and hot days !!!!

What a Fantastic Resort!! This Giant JW Marriott is located right on the beach, and from the main road, it takes 10 minutes to drive across the property to the beach. This is a Large Property.. The Staff was great, the front desk staff even talked me in to upgrading our room to a water view.. What a Nice Room! Glad we did it.. The Pool here is Fantastic, and the food was Great as well. Pool and Bar Staff all were very pleasant. I had the Best $24.00 Hamburger I've ever had, right at the Pool Bar. Bueno.. The beach was very walkable at this Resort, and we found the best shells we found at this beach during low tide. Great Sunsets too here. What we found so interesting is how self sufficient the resort is. They had there own Horses, the bred their own cattle for milk and beef, and the had all sorts of vegetables growing, solar panels, etc.. Very cool indeed. We stayed at several Resorts while we were in Costa Rica, and this was by far the nicest of them all. When we come back, if we stay in Tamarindo, the JW Marriott is where we will be staying. Awesome stay, awesome rooms, awesome staff and very secluded. We will be back !!

The roads to hotel is very poor conditions it takes 15 minutes to hotel from gate poor location I rather stay in Westin in playa conchal Best beach in Guanacaste

Roads are bad ... It takes 15 minutes just to get out of Resort.

Hotel is in a great location, we had an ocean front room with direct access to the beach. It is a well-maintained property with clean and nicely decorated rooms. The whole hotel premises definetely had feeling of a high-end luxery property. Beach is a little rocky but has a designated strip for swimming. The only one area which might need improvement is the food. Not the quality, but the recipies. Although it might be just my subjective opinion. Overall it was a great stay which me and my family really enjoyed. The stuff is very helpfull and friendly. Will definetely come back again.

Everything was great about our stay, but what really stood out was the food. We ate at each of the restaurants and never had a meal that wasn't exceptional.

I loved my stay at the Marriott in Guanacaste. I went for 4 nights in the low season (August) and fell in love with the hotel. It is in a very remote area, within about a 20 minute drive to Tamarindo. Tamarindo was just OK, but if you have a rental car it's a nice place to go out for dinner. The hotel is about 1.25 hours from the Liberia airport and is in a remote area... so beware if that's not your thing. When I walked into my room for the first time, I fell in love! Probably the nicest room I have ever stayed at. The hotel staff was very nice & responsive... and I was even given a tour upon arrival. The pool area was heaven. Very expansive, lots of lounge chairs, and right there on the ocean. The ocean is a bit rough, so if you have kids it's a good place to play in the sand, but probably better to swim in the pool. It was very quiet in August since it's CR's low season, but I loved it. I was disappointed that each restaurant wasn't opened every single night and you do need to make reservations for some of the restaurants. I dunno, I hate making reservations on a beach holiday... but I complained to management when I was told there was going to be an hour and half wait, and they handled it very well and found a very reasonable solution. This is a beach destination... so if you're looking for rainforest or volancoes I would suggest also booking near Arenal. Beautiful hotel, awesome rooms, friendly staff, and breathtaking grounds.

Great location next to little hawaii surf spot The beach club is near by and has access tp avellana beach as well as lola's beach bar

Just back from our 3rd trip to this GEM: location, staff, design, food, amenities, et al provide for a truly unique kind of vacation - accommodating a wide range of interests and desires - for those who are highly-active to those who prefer an ultra-relaxing vacation. From our arrival greeted by our old friend Manual (who we met for the first time in 2010) to ongoing great customer service from our old friend, concierge David (who we met for the first time in 2013), we felt nothing but Pura Vida love. All of this JW's mgmt & staff and most of the local people were warm, honest, fun and proactively supportive. Better than most places I've traveled...and I've "been around"... We've stayed in 3 different room types at this property - all great! Tamarindo restaurants and expansive empty beaches are only minutes away in each direction (north and south) - plenty of surf spots to choose from and even a beach club with lockers directly in front of one of the better breaks when the waves are big. In sum, there is no other luxury hotel or location offering such a wide range of things to do or not do. Ya gotta love tropical weather, loving people, thunderstorms, humidity, the ocean and ultra-lush green rain jungle to enjoy costa rica and this property. If you surf or like the 86 degree warm water waves, welcome to nirvana.

Loved taking long walks down the beach when the tide was out.

We stayed in Guanacaste for almost a week. We booked tours for 4 days and so we were mostly away during the day and back to the hotel late on the afternoon. On our last day, we stayed in the hotel just relaxing and enjoying the beach and the pool. We didn't have problems with our transportation because the Ecotrans Tours took care of everything. The staff are very courteous. Room service is cheaper than eating at their restaurants. One time, we came home late from our tours. The housekeeper, Adriana A., has a unique way of upkeeping our room, like, she made an elephant out of 5 towels. Neat!!!

Nice place. Good for family vacation. Friendly staff. The pool could use a little cleaning (there's some mold on the edges)

Had wonderful stay there. Love the room, the service. Staff are very nice helpful. Food in the restaurants are ok, not very impressive.

Very comfortable resort that offers all amenities that you need for a great vacation. Very friendly staff that is responsive to the guests and their needs. Highly recommended for its pools, spa, sauna and steam room. Great restaurants and a great beach front.

The staff was extremely attentive to my every need. The spa area is immaculate and refreshing

This was our second time visiting the JW Marriott at Hacienda Pinilla, as usual, service beyond expectations! The menu has changed a little but it's still sooo good, even Room service meals are superb. Buffet breakfast top notch, all the bread selections, gallo pinto and omelettes made anyway you want them, oh! And honey fresh from the panal. You may want to try their fresh juices, you can choose what goes in them too. We took a suite and it was huge. The bathroom was an open space with the shower next to the tub, lovely. Sunsets are the best here! Just be careful with the tides and rip currents, check with the staff or the lifeguard.

It was nice to enjoy peace and quiet throughout this resort, during low season for our honeymoon. However, be prepared to be told many times that this service or that food or drink is unavailable because it is low season.

Beautiful location. The hotel was clean. Room was elegant and bed sooo comfortable. Food was good. My only complaint it that check in and out were a little slow. The receptionist was excellent but she was alone. Would love to go again!

hotel is very nice, some construction going on for the whole week which was annoying in the month of august. They should wait for busy season to go away before doing construction. The restaurants are good but the food is just plain ok. Yes, even in the Steak place is just okay. For the kind of money they ask, either the quality of food should be better or the prices should drop.
