Best Western Hotel Takayama3.0 out of 5.0

We had a fine experience here for our two nights in Takayama, contrary to some of the reviews I read. The room is a normal size for a Japanese hotel room, and we had no complaints. The only English TV channel is CNN in case you're interested, but who needs it when the spring sumo tournament is going on?! We could see the snow-capped peaks from our room. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. We didn't use the restaurant, which was packed with Westerners, or go to happy hour (5-7 pm for ¥500 drinks and snacks, which is not a great deal) as the room seemed spare and cheerless. We did have massages at "Happy Hands" on the second floor (cash only), which were excellent if you like Japanese-style massage. The foot massage was wonderful after a long day of walking and hiking. The prices are very low compared to where we live.
This hotel has a great location, right downtown and 3 minute walk to the train station. We had a nice size room which was very clean and comfortable with two queen size beds. Had CNN on the TV and very fast wifi. Excellent shower. There is a restaurant right off the lobby. Breakfast is included in the rate. You can walk to several of the sights in town. Staff was friendly and helpful.
This hotel is what you would expect of a Best Western. Clean and reasonable standard. Well located close to the railway station and about 10-15 minutes walk to the old town. Plenty of restaurants close by. The hotel has been recently refurbished. We had a double standard room. The side of the bed was pushed against the wall, but there was enough room to push it across a little to allow access on both sides. However, every day the cleaner pushed it back again. You'd think they would have got the message. Who wants to be clambering over the other person to go to the loo in the middle of the night. The bathroom was small with a low ceiling, making it quite claustrophobic. However, at less than $240 Australian dollars for room and a buffet breakfast for two, it's good value. I thought breakfast was fine with a choice of both hot and cold dishes. There was also an option of a Japanese breakfast where you were served in a private dining room. Interesting experience to try!
This hotel is only one block from the railway station and even closer to the main street as well as a coin laundry and an auto teller if you need cash. The rooms are not large but contain all you need for a comfortable stay in this historic town. Most staff speak English and are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a bit of a letdown in an otherwise very good hotel being quite limited in the choices you have.
Near the station with easy walking access to sites. Room reasonable size. No safe. Staff friendly. Breakfast mediocre, no tablecloths, little service, and expensive! Would be nice to have a laundromat on premises.
This hotel is new and location is quite good. Room space is acceptable and clean but not much of a view. There is a staff at the restaurant who can speak good english. There are many small eatery shop around and most of the shops close at 8:00pm.
Typical Best Western hotel. Good location for walking into town. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Breakfast adequate. Free wifi in rooms. One lady in the restaurant spoke excellent english and all staff were friendly and helpful.
Located very close to train station, so convenient if you arrive by train. But the area is not really nice. You need to walk 10 minutes to arrive to the charming old town. Typical Best Western, very basic motel-style hotel. Rooms are renovated so ok, but relatively small, in particular the bathroom is very small. No safe in the room. But they provide amenities like pajamas and slippers. Free WIFI. The room is ok for a short stay of 1-2 nights. Breakfast is not really good, you get coupons like in a dormitory and when you arrive at 07:00 (time of opening) the room is already fully packed like in a subway station, the room is just too small for the hotel size. The quality of products is not good, they do not provide spoon for coffee, there is a buffet but you even have to collect your silver ware on your own. Worse than in a canteen. Staff are friendly and their language skills ok. Overall ok for a short stay, but considering the rate I paid (over USD 200) I find it too expensive for what you get. But unfortunately there are not many alternatives in town...
The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the station. The ammenities are good,Very easy to get to attractions from hotel.Staff are vet friendly and rooms are comfortablle.Breakfast is of a satisfactory standard
Best Western was located near the train station, it is a good hotel with most everything you need. Staff are super friendly and helpful. The room was standard, nothing to get excited about. I would stay here again as it served the purpose of being close to transport, close to all the shops and food, and it was nice enough
