We liked this hotel mostly because the rooms were comfortable, spacious and is within close proximity to most places you would like to see in Takayama and food places. The staff were efficient and helpful.
It was a real pleasure to visit Best Western in Takayama! unexpected European style hotel in the old countryside. All amenities not to forget modernized version of onset with rain room (great to visit after hard day of sightseeing :)). They also offer massage on site, and pricing is very reasonable. I am not a big fan of Best Western in the U.S., but in Japan if was surprisingly nice and relaxing. location is in walking distance from everything.
The best thing was the 5 minutes walk from the train station. Unfriendly service* and old rooms, not a good deal, but it's cheap... We had to fight to have our luggage kept in a separate room and not in the lobby... Terrible breakfast buffet but I must say, the waitress from the Philippines, 25 years in Takayama, was extremely friendly, witty and did a good job. We only stayed 2 nights and had no time to use the internet, but it was at the edge of not working. *Usually in Japan, the service is extremely polite and friendly. This was not the case.
Located just one block from the train and bus station. Smooth walk if you're rolling your luggage. Breakfast had both Japanese and Western options. Great big pillows--unexpected in Japan. TV options not great, but did have CNN as only English-language channel. Free internet service required a daily registration, which was a 30-second inconvenience. Check-in staff was quite friendly. Just a very good solid choice for anyone staying one or several nights. No surprises!
Free, but slow internet, need to keep re-trying to get on. Laundry in hotel, but like most Japanese hotels there is no ironing board . Trouser press in room. Modern large, comfortable room; has accessible outlets for chargers, flat screen t.v. (only English station is CNN), our room had to extra wide singles pushed together into a king bed. There are reading lights for each person, also with outlets. There is the usual Japanese tea service and instant coffee, small fridge. There is a desk and chair, and 2 arm chairs, small fridge, The room has a combo shower/soaker tub with soap and shampoo. There is a large closet in room. Like many Japanese hotels the room key is a card that must be put in a slot by the door, that controls the electricity. So you can’t charge electronics when leaving the room. For a couple, one person could leave a key in the slot to continue charging. Key cards are also needed to access the elevators. The front desk staff speaks English. There is a bar with a Happy Hour. Breakfast is a buffet that has a wide selection of food, including an array of Japanese foods, and American foods. The room amenities include pajamas, sandals, tooth brushes, razors, small sponges (in lieu of face cloths), brush, shower cap. There are vending machines available off the lobby. The hotel is close to the remodeled railroad station. This is a very nice hotel, and located within walking distance to the city’s attractions. It is a short walk to the ATM at a Seven-Eleven Bank kiosk. Japan is a cash society(few stores take credit cards) , so you may need to make frequent stops at ATMs that take American credit/debit cards.
Excellent location, 1 min walk from JR and bus station, good place for transit. We went to Kamikochi from there. All the scenic are within walking distance. We paid extra to get a bigger room, breakfast is below average.
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. Standard room, not large, basic furniture and equipment.medium level . Clean, good service. Excellent location near Takayama Station. 2 minutes walk.Overall a good solution for a night to two, without expectations to a high level of room.OK.
One block from the station and within easy walk of markets, shops and restaurants. Staff were friendly and happy to answer my questions. If all you want is a clean room and comfortable beds (I stayed in a twin with 2 double beds) this ticks all the boxes. Personally I recommend you take the rate without breakfast. Had a very good massage for a very reasonable price.
It's location just across the station and close to the bus stand and other restaurants is its strong point ... large rooms too . Friendly and helpful staff who guided us on how to do Shirakawago and Hida ....
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location is ideal. It's just a few minutes walk from the station and bus station, and because Takayama is so compact most of the main sights are a short walk in the other direction. There are restaurants, cafés and bars nearby. All the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive, and checking in and out were fast. Our room was compact but well designed, so there was room for our cases plus space to relax. The wifi was fast, and we enjoyed the spa (remember to take the towel from your room!) The included breakfast was a great spread. You can choose to book a traditional Japanese breakfast, which we found fun and tasty. Note that, unlike many similar hotels in Japan, this hotel does not have a coin laundry.
