+ Superb location. + Beautiful spa with outdoor hot(-ish) tub. + Good breakfast. - Slightly tacky design. - Service mentality could be more proactive (we got what we wanted but too often had to ask for it).
We drove to Strasbourg from Paris.Never again. The train all the way. At first coming through the city I was disappointed. I had pictured this quint essential old world town. We turn the corner at the large monument on to a cobblestone path and immediately transcended in to old world charm. The hotel staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The view from the room was looking over the cobblestone bridge and waterway. Gorgeous. Perfect location for seeing all of Strasbourg. Walking to restaurants and shops. A short stroll downtown. Best of all was the proximity to all the beautiful small towns of the region. We visited Colmar, Equishem, Kayersberg, Riquewihr all in one beautiful day.
We spent 2 nights and were favorably impressed with the rooms and friendly staff. Location is excellent. The only setback was the spa. The facility was well organized and clean but the staff was ill prepared, I wanted a massage for my backache but was very disappointed with the young masseus. I ended up with anything but.
We were both really looking forward to visiting Strasbourg for the Christmas Markets and had high expectations of this Hotel due to the high ranking, pricing and excellent reviews by the TripAdvisor Community. Our expectations were met on certain rudimentary levels, but neither one of us would consider this Hotel a luxury property or suitable for a discerning Guest. Let's get to the good stuff. 1) location-lovely and walkable in a great neighborhood to access all the sights, Shops, Restaurants, and in our case excellent proximity to the Christmas Markets. 2) Marie-she provided positively wonderful assistance and communication prior to our arrival. Marie also secured us a Dinner Reservation when we needed a recommendation on a night we were meeting friends. 3) Bar and Lounge Service-extremely pleasant service-especially provided by the new young lady "Apprentice", plus relaxing atmosphere and nice lighting design on the old industrial equipment too. 4) View from Room-nice overlook of the water and small Christmas Market. 5) Room simple but adequate. Very comfortable bed and ample storage. Now the ehhh.. 1) Cost-Our "Classic" (basic) room four night stay room rate was broken down as follows- €530, €530, €300, €350, totaling €1710 plus fees, taxes, food etc. When booking our stay, we felt given the pricing and ranking, this was the finest Hotel in Strasbourg. The Hotel did not offer a good value for this price range even for the lower end Room Rate. Some of the larger rooms offered more space, but not necessarily more usable space. The atmosphere and amenities feel more like a low to mid-range business Hotel-not luxurious or geared towards discerning Clientele despite what the rates and ranking would suggest. 2) "Freshness", for lack of a better word, the common areas (Lobby, Entry, Hallways etc.) lacked an expected freshness. I can't wholly attribute it to any single thing, but the Hotel does not smell fresh or clean with the exception of the Guest Room and Spa. Some of the surfaces and textiles are tired and worn and the online representative photos do not reflect the overall in person experience of the property very well. So aside from our few interactions with a handful of Staff members for directions, maps, checking in and checking out, we didn't get a very welcoming feeling at this property. It's possible it could be attributed to the busy time, but it did seem like the training culture was not tailored to this property class very well. Simple gestures like orienting the arriving Guest to the facilities (for example mentioning the Spa, Bar etc.) would seem minimal courtesy.
This hotel is in an old traditional historic building, but with an interior that has been modernized, at least at some point in the past. The location is perfect, right in the Petite France area alongside the canals and near all the interesting shops and restaurants. We reserved a suite (bedroom plus sitting room with sofa bed) and the view in two directions overlooking the canal, the La Conde a Ligne restaurant, and other picturesque buildings was to die for. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Negative: Unfortunately, upon entering the room, both my wife and I both noticed a moderate smell of cigarette smoke. The bell man graciously offered to give us a different room, but no other suite was available for our stay of 4 nights, so we decided to stay there, as we did need a suite. He also offered to have the staff spray something to cover the odor, but we declined, as such sprays usually do not remove the smoke, they just cover it up, and often add another unpleasant and/or allergenic odor. The towels and bed linens were clean and smoke free and we later localized the smoke smell as coming from the heavy drapes and lamp shades as well as walls. It was apparent that someone had sat on the sofa in the sitting room and smoked. (We have experienced this several times in French and Italian hotels that are supposed to be nonsmoking, but someone has smoked in them regardless). We kept the windows open and over time the air quality was better, but the bed linens in the sitting room and our clothes did take on the smell of smoke over time. Although we had no issues with the quality of the daily routine cleaning, someone on the staff should have caught this problem before the suite was rented and not just let it slide, hoping no one would notice. Negatuve: In general the overall cleanliness of the hotel could be upgraded. While I wouldn't say it is dirty, it is certainly not clean either, and this includes public areas and hall ways. Overall the hotel could use a good cleaning and updating. While it was very modern at one point, it is now tired and generally dingy. Negative: The toilet in our fairly expensive suite was in a separate room with no sink or ability to wash up after using it, without going into the other room containing the shower and sink. While the practice of having a separate room for the toilet with no sink has been fairly common in France in the past, this foul, unsanitary, ridiculous arrangement should have ended when the plumbing moved in-doors. And certainly it should not be present in a hotel that is supposed to be 5-star and modern. A local told us this hotel is the best in Strasbourg. If so, the hotel situation in Strasbourg is not very good.
I have been to Strasbourg many times, and have always wanted to stay at the Regent Petite France hotel due to its location and apparent 5 star rating, however I have to say that after staying in the hotel this weekend, I am very disappointed. While the people are friendly and helpful, the hotel is not what I consider to be 5 star. I would move this to a 4 star at best. Not too quality rooms. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Perhaps it is due to the fact that we are in a “Classic” room, but even the more expensive rooms appear basic. The location is great, but I believe that you can find better.
Arrived late at night and staff were lovely. Very helpful and tried to help me find a restaurant for dinner. Buffet breakfast was very tasty. Great selection all very fresh. Really set me up for the day. My room was great. I started in the building across the road from the main hotel. A lovely renovated historic building. Bed was total luxury. Had a great night's sleep after a long day at the conference I was attending. Hotel staff were great and organised taxis for me and were happy to advise on how to get around. Location is ideal. Only 10 mins walk from main train station and city centre. Lovely restaurants close by. Maison de tanners is a must. It's just a pity I couldn't spend more time to see Strasbourg. Def recommend to a friend
I took us while to find our way to this Hotel. But once arrived we discovered a magnificent and beautiful hotel at a fantastic location. I invited my lovely wife for a romantic getaway to Strasbourg and this hotel did surely meet all our requirements. We were greeted very professionally and after a smooth check-in we found ourselves on the second floor in a large, beautiful decorated deluxe room with a scenic view.On the day of our arrival we went for a stroll in the neighboring area just to soak up the sights and sounds of this area with a history. After a perfect night-rest we were greeted for a delicious breakfast. Very attentive staff with a perfect service. Complete buffet with a variety of cold cuts, bread and spreads and yes... delicious coffee! This hotel is part of the historic Petite France and has also a photogenic touch. Will certainly return to this area (and hotel) when they ask us to go back to Strasbourg as it is the perfect stop to discover Strasbourg and the areas around.
Rooms in this hotel are very large for European standards and bathrooms are great. Location is convenient to walk around Petite France and the Old Town area. Walk to the impressive Notre Dame Cathedral and take beautiful pictures along the way.
Beautiful location very close to main city sights, lovely clean and spacious room, romantic views, relaxing spa area, elegant bar area, wonderful service from reception to bar to spa to housekeeping (including promptly finding and posting back to me an item of clothing that was accidentally removed from the room during housekeeping - thank you!). I'd definitely stay here again. I note others have had issues with wifi speed but I didn't use it so cannot comment. Only possible suggestion is that the room could perhaps do with a sofa/chaise longue or similar. I cannot comment on the wifi speed as I didn't use it.
