Ocean front room with private balcony on Mermaid Beach amazing! Ice coolers and cold water coolers everywhere, great to stay hydrated. Large complimentary breakfast buffett was fabulous, delicious mango. Lots of beach toys available, free to rent at both beaches. 8ft deep freshwater pool with an ocean view was just the right temp.

Loved the location on the water and close the city. Rooms were nice and the main building had a great view of the ocean. We wanted an ocean view but it was a partial view so really only seen from outside the room. Many staff were friendly and others were not. Nice time of year during April as it was not crowded.

The facilities are ok. the food is terrible, very difficult to find good places nearby

We had an opportunity to take a long weekend in St. Croix, and having never been to the island we relied heavily on reviews. Every review we read about The Buccaneer was spot on! The hotel sits on a hill with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The staff were lovely, and attentive. What a greeting at the front desk, a taste of the island with a complimentary rum punch (fruit punch for tea totallers). Our room had a spectacular view of the ocean with warm ocean breezes. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, the hotel manager had a beautiful welcome basket in our room filled with delicious goodies. The food in the dining room was nothing less than 4 star! The waitstaff knowledgeable. Both beaches have a cabana that supplies snorkel, paddleboard and kayaks. The snorkeling just 50 feet off shore was amazing. The pool was cool and refreshing after a day in the ocean. Hiking trails were a terrific challenge. The only flaw was another guest who was smoking on the premises (there is a strict No Smoking policy), right below our room. However, ONE phone call to the front desk put an end to that. All in all, four days was NOT enough of this little slice of paradise

We had a fabulous one week visit. Can't wait to return. Accommodations were right on the beach, weather was lovely, staff very caring, food excellent. We especially liked Maynard, who greeted us every morning at the delicious breakfast buffet. Views are spectacular and we loved all the history of the former sugar plantation. Owner/Manager gives a personal tour! Resort very close to Christiansted so easy to go into town and enjoy shops and restaurants. We also toured the Cruzan Rum Distillery and Botanical Gardens.

Awesome, beautiful place & location. Staff was excellent. Beaches were nice. The reefs right off the beaches were decent, but the resort has a dock that the charter boats come to for snorkel/scuba trips booked through a few of the local charter companies. Resort is on the big & hilly side but they have golf carts that will shuttle you from place to place. Breakfast buffet was very good (bacon, sausage, egg that you can order to your liking, muffins, cereals, toasts all fresh).

We've been to St. Croix 3 times and each time we've stayed at the Buccaneer. Sure there are other hotels on the island, and I'm sure they are great, but we know the kind of service we will be getting, the hotel is amazing, and the beaches are wonderful. We will continue to go back to The Buccaneer for all our future trips to St. Croix!

The stay was great. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They really have your interest on having fun in mind. The front desk receptionist greeted you upon your interest and check in was very easy. There was a small issue with my TV and it was fixed right away without any problems. There free breakfast (actually included in the package I purchased) was awesome. The view from the balcony was great and the reception they held was enjoyable as you got to mingle with other guests as well as see some of their culture displayed with the dancers. I will be going back.

Upon checking in we discovered that there was a problem with our reservation. We requested an ocean view room with two queen beds but was assigned a room with one king bed. The front desk manager not only resolve the queen versus king bed issue but he upgraded us to a seaside villa. We later found out that it was the best of the sea side villas. We could see the Caribbean sea from inside of the villa and we could walk down to the beach from our patio. The food in the fine dining room was on par with any five star restaurant in New York or Los Angeles. The chef paid attention to the smallest detail. The Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb was the best I've every had. It was medium well and perfect.

This is our 4th visit - need I say more? Fabulous staff, Great beach,

Resort is lovely, beach is terrific, staff is wonderful

My husband and I went on this vacation with our two children, a son 18 and daughter 14. The staff was wonderful -- always smiling and courteous. They seemed to genuinely want to do what they could to make our stay great. The views were amazing. We rented the family cottage which was a great idea for us (2 bedrooms joined by a bathroom) and everything was wonderful except the kid's beds were not as good as the master suite bed and were a bit uncomfortable. The master suite bed was just fine, though. We went the end of July/early August and the weather was perfect. There is great snorkeling off the beaches and there is even a reef relatively close. We all saw lots of fish and the kids even saw sea turtles and rays. The evening meals were very good. However, the menu did not change the whole week we were there. Towards the end of the week it got a bit monotonous. Seemed to me that the menu could have been changed up a little bit, to give it a some spontaneity. The food prices at the hotel were comperable to prices at other places. It was nice that all the amenities were free -- the snorkeling gear, the boogie boards, the kayaks, etc. Julie, the concierge, was wonderful. She set us up with a group that took us out to Buck Island to snorkel. They were great. Very nice and professional. Unfortunately the group we went with to go deep see fishing wasn't so wonderful. I asked the captain if it was a good idea to go out due to a tropical storm due to hit the next day and he said yeah. The swells were 6-8 feet (very uncomfortable ride -- thank goodness for motion sickness pills) and in 5 hours we only got two bites and no fish. I'm not professional, but I believe that fish go fuirther out to sea if a storm is coming. We relied on the captain, thinking he would know something we didn't. We won't do that again. Very expensive lesson. I provided this feedback to the hotel so they are aware. Overall, though, we had a great time. The Buccanaeer was definately the best place on the island.

The Buccaneer is an excellent vacation / holiday destination for family, couples, & everyone alike. It has 3 beaches - Grotto, Mermaid, and Whistle beaches. The Grotto and the mermaid were the best ones. Grotto was like a private beach with less activity. Mermaid was a busier one with lot of people and activities. There were Kayaks and Snorkel gear available in both the beaches. And, the Whistle beach is windy and isolated up the hill but had excellent panoramic views of the ocean. The main restaurant up the hill offered good food but the restaurant service was poor. And, beach front Rooms were excellent. Overall, its an excellent choice.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle then the Buccaneer is perfect! Not a cookie cutter hotel, it is family run and has character. Our room was updated and comfortable. It had a gorgeous patio over looking the ocean, very private and fabulous place to relax. Our son had fun at the kids club......and we had a relaxing time on the beach or beside one of the two pools. The beaches were lovely and kept clean. My only grip was that the beach loungers were not the most comfortable but the ones by the pools were much better. It is not a hotel for the those wanting glitz or glam.....but wonderful to relax.

We had a lovely time at the Buccaneer. We were upgraded to a cottage, which had two rooms, one with a king-sized bed and the other with 2 single beds for our 6 year old twins. Both rooms had TVs, and shared a bathroom with its own sink and then an outer sink. I wouldn't call this a 5-star resort, but it has 3 beaches, a small pool, and 3 restaurants. The food at the Terrace for dinner was the best. The only real problem we had was the price, but it should be noted that everything on the island is very expensive, and this resort is a very good choice if St. Croix is your vacation destination.

We had a great time here at the Buccaneer. Great hotel, nice rooms, view to die for, food was excellent, staff was so friendly. The only complaint we had was the stores, especially the general store, were not open past 4:30 in the afternoons (and 3pm on Sunday). So when you've been out all day and you realize that you want a cold drink or a snack, something to read, advil, or whatever, you can't get it. If they changed that, then this review would have been 5 stars all the way.

The whole experience at The Bucaneer was fantastic. The staff was top notch. We asked to switch rooms after 1st night because our room was right next to reception desk and was a little noisy with it being a busy part of the season. They responded by moving us the next day to one of the rooms on second floor with what had to be one of the best views of carribean sea and Chistiansted. They followed it up with an apology card for any inconvenience we suffered and a bottle of wine. Would definitely recommend .

Loved my stay, the food was great, staff friendly and helpful. Had a beautiful view from the Great House. Can't wait to go back!

The pros: - great location with fantastic views for the sea and Christiansted; - large property and not so many guests, which then made it feel less stressful as other places we've been (like in Dominican republic where they harass you on the beach trying to sell you stuff#; - couple of beaches, one of which had a coral reef and was good for snorkelling; - management and staff were very attentive to our requests; e.g. they upgraded us to a better room upon arrival. - many amenities: tennis courts, children activities, 3 restaurants; the cons: -One of us was bitten more than 10 times by sand bugs, called unseen; we did receive assistance from the hotel staff, but nevertheless this part was stressful for our group; -While the hotel arranges for live entertainment at the hotel every night, one does not have many options at night, even going to the nearby city. Definitely, not that kind of entertainment one gets in Cancun, e.g. in Coco Bongo. - the Groto Beach terrace might fail sanitary inspections; - attention to detail and repairs, e.g. there were 3 holes #maybe from where might have been a handle) in the bathroom marble that were starring me in the face while showering;

This was the best vactin I have been on the view out the window looked like a picture out of a magazine. Highly recomended.
