This hotel has been on my wish list for quite a while and it did not disappoint. It's a very nice historic building on a hill with a picturesque view of the water. The town and whale-watching docks are a short walk, but the bellhops are more than happy to drop off/pick up on request - very nice touch! The staff was very personable and professional. We ate in both restaurants (dinner and breakfast), and had drinks on the front porch one afternoon and in front of a lovely fireplace one evening - all were good! The room was very quaint and comfortable. All in all, a charming and beautiful historic resort. Definitely recommend.

The service and quality at the Algonquin has gone down significantly; gum under the table at Braxton's restaurant and an excessively long wait for food, hotel staff who seemed confused at best, room keeping coming to our door early and knocking to ask if they could come in and clean while we were still sleeping, and many other small things that added up to poor service. If you are being charged their excessively high prices expecting Algonquin quality, that is what you should get. I will not be back any time soon.

I have known this hotel all my life as a regular visitor to St. Andrews.but this was my first visit since the huge remodel and it is truly beautiful.I particularly enjoyed sitting in front of a lovely fireplace and the afternoon tea.

I was disappointed when we saw the back of the building when driving in--paint was coming off and it looked unkempt. We also were disappointed in the quality of the food. We had been there several times as children with our parents and later as adults, and it everything was top quality. Quite disappointing.

There was noice bucket inner room and a request for one to the front desk was ignored. Sounds small but when ice is needed, eg ice a knee, a vessel for transporting it is required. I have never seen an accommodation lacking one before.
