I can not fault this hotel. The staff are wonderful, the room service menu is endless, the location is perfect & I had one of the best treatments at Ramani Fernando salon. In room dining was delicious & delivered less than estimated time.. great quality food and so many vegetarian options. I would stay here for business & holiday, highly recommend. Thank you !!

I have stayed here thrice and been bowled over by the service each time. Right from the check-in to room service, everything delights. The staff are very attentive and go out of the way to make one comfortable. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. Small things that please a business traveller like a comfortable work desk, sufficient charging points, a bedside reading lamp are what make the rooms perfect for me. The in-room dining menu is comprehensive and has many vegetarian options. Look for a room with a balcony if one is available.

This is a great hotel with great service. It is centrally located and has a great ocean view from the balcony. I had a quick one day business trip to Colombo and just had to try the curry crab. Unfortunately, it was 3:30 pm in the afternoon and I was checking out in a few hours. The restaurants are closed but the Assistant Restaurant Manager (Charitha) got the kitchen to cook a nice curry crab from their own Crab Factory Restaurant. It was delicious and I appreciate the special effort.

They forgot to send a car to pick me up at the airport despite confirming so I waited for 30 minutes close to midnight. Eventually a 3rd party, small, tinpot car showed up. Furthermore there was no warning of the construction noise that they made. I understand that changes need to be made but not when people are trying to sleep. I will never stay here again and will make it my life's mission to detract others. I am so tired now.

Restaurants are not only the food they are offering but the people they serve you.Tonight i decided to try Crab Factory ,a new Crab restaurant within the premises of the hotel.Let me mention first the food was excellent.Different kinds and sizes of crabs.But mostly what impressed me were the service: Nuzaim,Manjuka and Rautndu were top!Thank you guys, excellent job.I have visited all the places in Colombo serving Crab and i can say this experience was the best.The hotel should add this restaurant to its site and also make it well know thru advertisement, it is a shame that you started this wonderful restaurant and it is not known at all.I found it accidentally since during this layover i didn't want to go out.I am an airline Captain who flies frequently to Colombo.

I am only writing in regard to the current noise level. The staff has informed me they do their construction work from 8 am to 8 pm. It is absolutely unacceptable considering it is considered a 5-star hotel. When confronted it, the management's strategy is "promising" noise will stop soon. But SOON in my case, after my complaint is >3 hours. At time of writing this, it is nearly 6 p.m. noise goes on. They are not offering room -change away from the noise. Regardless of how other services are, ignoring customer's complaint of noise and not keeping promises of solving problem and refusing to change the room, I will NOT return to this Taj hotel. One star or less!

I chose to stay at Taj Colombo expecting it to be like the rest of the Taj group in India. The location was superb overlooking the sea front however this was a wrong decision. The hotel rooms were worn out and musty smelling. The property clearly needs some renovation of the lower floors. Spoke to the hotel manager but all that was done was a room freshener was sprayed which made it worse. Despite being an inner circle member for a few years now, felt like this was a mistake. One expects better from a Taj hotel

Two day stay at the start of our Sri Lanka holiday. Chosen because we like using the Taj group. A large business oriented hotel. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Room was the standard room, which was comfortable and well equipped. The hotel location is ideal for local exploring. We ate by the pool and at the main restaurant. The breakfast and evening buffet service was fabulous. Delicious, fresh, a great selection and terrific value. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

I just returned from a three day trip to Colombo and chose to stay at the Taj Samudra, because I am a ‘frequent flier’ with the Taj chain. I was travelling with a friend, and each of us booked a seaview king room on the club floor. Our flight arrived around 5:30 am and we arranged a pickup through the hotel, to avoid any hassle at the airport. Everything went according to plan, and we arrived at the hotel around 6:30 am. The reception staff were waiting for us, with our room keys ready, and we were delighted to be able to check in and relax. However, not so delighted later, when after getting unpacked and having a short nap, we both noticed a note had been pushed under the door advising us that we were charged an extra 50% for checking in early. Now, I realize that some hotels in the world will charge for early arrival. Some do not. The most important thing is that they tell you, so you have a choice whether you want to have the room early and be charged the extra money, or you want to store your luggage with the concierge and take off on a city tour or just rest in the lobby area. In our case, we could have decided to only take one room, save the extra charge, and both use the room until the official check-in time. We were not offered any choice. What made it more annoying is that I had been in contact with the Taj by email to arrange the airport pickup, so they had plenty of opportunity to mention in advance about the extra charge for early check-in, or again, in person, when we actually checked in. To slip a sneaky note under the door after we had unpacked and relaxed is particularly crafty and has left a very bitter taste in my mouth. Otherwise, the hotel stay was excellent. We enjoyed the extensive buffet breakfast, the room itself was magnificent with a wonderful view over Galle Face Green and the bathroom was palatial. Some small niggles with the room were dealt with swiftly and efficiently and we were checked out by a lovely lady who stood on the front step and waved us off, as if we were a member of the family. We also booked a one day trip using the hotel vehicle to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, which was a highlight of our trip. On return, I received the usual questionnaire from the hotel asking me about my stay. I mentioned what a great time we had, but how disappointed we were about the 50% early check-in charge on the bill and the sneaky way we were informed about it. I thought I might have received a response from somebody to say ‘sorry we didn’t inform you in advance and give you the opportunity to choose if you wanted to check in or not’, but I didn’t receive anything. It was disappointing, particularly since I am a Taj member and particularly since we had two rooms on the club floor. The Taj is clearly not interested in my business and so, on my next trip to Colombo, which is at the end of the month, I will be staying somewhere else.

We stayed at the Taj Samudra Hotel for 2 nights and were upgraded to a club room. The check-in was very smooth and took place straight in our room. Bernie was so efficient in explaining the facilities of the hotel along with the room amenities. The Latitude restaurant was awesome for breakfast. An amazing variety and great taste. A special mention to Mr. Jaychandra for suggesting the Sri Lankan breakfast combination of stringhoppers with fish curry and sambol. Golden Dragon Restaurant too was exemplary in its menu offering and taste too. We went for sightseeing tours with the Taj team itself. Tour was well placed and organized. Its not only the 2 nights we spent at the hotel that were commendable. Post our stay (on our return from Sri Lanka), we encountered a difficulty with one of the item we had purchased and we wrote back to the hotel to assist. We are not only pleased, but truly happy with the exemplary assistance provided by Mr. Hanif, Our Concierge at the Taj Samudra. He helped us resolve the issue and he even went out of the way to help us out during his own day off. This blew our mind. We would expect the team to be pleasant and professional, whilst we stay at the hotel, which is exactly what we received. However, never in our wildest imagination did we expect the service after our stay to be outstanding! Mr. Hanif assured us and kept following up with us till such time that our issue was resolved. I truly commend and appreciate his professionalism, patience and passion to assist a guest with such humility and excellence. Mr. Hanif & Team at the Taj Samudra truly portray the "Tajness" that is so symbolic of the Taj Brand, and we would like to congratulate the management team of the Taj Samudra for a job well done! We certainly look forward to returning back to Taj Samudra in the near future!
