I don't understand how the website recommends a such hotel for holiday makers to stay, as we rely on weside recomdation. They should know the standard the importance of other guest reviews and then they give stars, like this hotel you give 4 * but honestly this particular hotel not even worth for mentioning stars,my experience of stay in this hotel is bad dreams , the movement I step in to check out is worst ever, the staff is not supportive , their service is very bad , it's like they pickup people from roadside and offer them to work in hotel in daily basis, their food is very worst , break fast every day is same and they repeat the left over on they next day and when you complain they ignore you, they give out side restaurant for live music and that music they play for whole night. They stop that live music 6oclock in morning and when you complain they just show their rotten tooth with no apology. In break fast they serve drink in broken glass , when I complain no one comes on your table at least to say sorry.its like they obliged to serve you break fast , even they don't have reception counter, one lady sit on the table with one computer, when I approached her for one of my problem , the people who work they are unable to work. They reason why I write the whole story, to warned people those who read this. Don't go on price , give some where else little more money and enjoy your peaceful stay . I give this hotel star, 00000000000000000.

The staff across all areas of the hotel was very friendly, helpful and polite from the day I checked in to the day that I checked out. They always went out their way to chat to me and was very attentive to my needs during my entire stay at the hotel . My room was on the 3rd floor and I was slight concerned when I d=found out there was no lift, however I didn't need to worry as the staff carried my very heavy suitcases for me, The room was clean and spacious, and I got a sea view room at my request. The AC was working perfectly and also the tea making facilities and water bottles in the room was a plus point The room got cleaned every day, with fresh sheets, towels and toiletries during my stay. Also the wifi worked perfectly during my stay which was another bonus as I was able to communicate with my friends and family without having to worry about high phone bills The negative points about the room was the shower, Although the cubical was spacious, the temperature of the shower was very hard to regulate as one minute it was cold and the next minute it was really hot. Also the room needed a fresh court of paint and the windows needed to be double or triple glazed . I was aware when I booked the hotel that there was a train track on the boundary however it took me a few days to get used to the sound of trains I specially enjoyed the Malaysian Beach Restaurant /Bar as I was able to chill out, and enjoy the sea view while having drinks meals. In addition the bar staff were very friendly and attentive that made my time enjoyable The location was ideal for me as it was a short stone throw away to the beach and the also to the city . There was supermarkets, bakeries, and shops within walking distance. The beach was clean and also there was life guards on duty so it was safe to go for a swim or just have a walk along the beach. Overall I think that hotel can do with a fresh court of paint and some minor little twerks, However the caring and friendly attitude of the staff made my stay very enjoyable so that the minor cosmetic maintenance issues didn't spoil my holiday. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay with them if I visit the city again I would like to extend a big thank you to all the staff of the hotel who made my stay very enjoyable

In January 2018, I stayed at the Berjaya in Colombo with my wife and seven-month old son. We were in Colombo to attend a family reunion. My wife is from Sri Lanka and a number of our family members also stayed at the Berjaya. My wife and I have travelled widely and have visited destinations in Central and Eastern Europe, South America, South Asia, South East Asia and North Asia. We have stayed at a variety of hotels, guest houses and hostels ranging from 5 stars to what could charitably be described as basic accommodation. I mention this because I want to stress that we have stayed at places which are not very salubrious – that’s often part of the fun of travelling and makes for good stories afterwards. However, we were both shocked by the Berjaya. We arrived late at night after a long day of travelling and as soon as we explored our room, my wife and I discussed if we should ask to change rooms or look for another hotel because the room was filthy. However, we were both exhausted, as was our little boy, so we decided to get some sleep and look at the situation with fresh eyes in the morning. The following morning we checked out other rooms (belonging to my parent-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law). If anything, they were even more disgusting than ours, so we decided to change hotels. All four rooms were covered in mould and dirt and we were concerned about the health implications for our little boy. We explained the situation to the manager who asked us to view another room. However, we told him we had already seen four, including our own, and would prefer to get a refund for the remaining nights we had already paid for and find another hotel. However, while he admitted the rooms were filthy (quite an admission for a manager) he told us we would have to contact our travel agent to arrange a refund. I argued that he should just provide the refund directly because they had failed to provide a habitable room. However, he wouldn’t budge. Furthermore, when our travel agent contacted the hotel, it refused to provide a refund. This was very disappointing given that the manager admitted the rooms were unacceptable. When we arrived at the new hotel the doorman asked where we had come from. We explained that we had arrived in Colombo the previous night and had stayed at the Berjaya and he recognised the name immediately. He told us that his hotel received a lot of guests who were unhappy with the standard of the Berjaya and decided to find another hotel. I suspect the management of the Berjaya will respond to this review to say they are sorry for any inconvenience and that they will try to rectify the problems for future guests. However, given how dirty the rooms were, a quick clean wouldn’t fix the problem – they would need to completely refurbish the rooms. A quick note on the service - we returned to the hotel to visit family and were frustrated by the extremely slow service at the restaurant. It took 45 minutes to get a drink when our family were the only diners.

Really nice visit. Special thanks to hotel GM - Mr. Norazman & other team members for their great support and cooperation in managing our event successfully the staff was really nice and supportive. Special thanks to Suranga (Restaurant & bar), Dilshan (Maintenance), Lilaani, Shiroma, Sisil, Damian, Mohan (Chef), Gihan- Dilshan - Thisarani (Front office), Manel (Housekeeper), Phonsekha, Jagath, Channa, Warren, Felix et al....wonderful stay, nice staff !!!!

I stayed this property with my wife for one night. From the check in to check out our stay was awful. When we checked in there were no welcome drinks or welcome towels was offered. And there was no personal to help us with our baggage. They gave us the room keys and no one showed us where to go. So We have to go there and asked from them where our room is. Rooms are in very bad condition with a noisy AC machine. Bathroom was very old and dirty. I had to call three times for housekeeping for a dental kit which came after 30 minuets. Regarding the restaurant and food that was most dirtiest restaurant I ever seen in my life. No proper training for the waiters. They have no clue of what they doing. Wrong table arrangement without butter knives. And there is not much variety of foods to eat. So my advice is if you thinking of booking this hotel please think about it again.

We stayed here one night. From the starting point staff was unprofessional. We didn’t have a warm welcome, no welcome drink or a face towel. Just gave the key and told us room is in the 3rd floor. My husband had to carry our bags on his own and until we asked no one came to lead us to the location. Room was ok.. but the A/C was broken and too noisy. Bathroom was unpleasant, floor was dirty and the taps were broken. In the night time a/c machine didn’t work properly so couldn’t get much of a sleep as it was too hot. In the morning we ordered some tea and they phoned back twice to verify it which was odd. Asked for a dental kit and took more than half an hour to bring it. Breakfast was bad, no flavors, not much of options, table cloths were dirty and bugs were everywhere. Staff was not friendly. This hotel needs serious attention of the higher level management. Staff needs proper training and proper awareness about good customer service.

We stayed here for 2 nights and although having arrived from the U.K. and probably suffering from jet lag and tiredness wouldn’t help we had an unpleasant stay. Firstly our room wasn’t as the pictures advertised. Old and run down, would do with a really good refurb. The bed was big but cover was too thick for weather which is conflicting as you don’t want to then be eaten alive by mozzys. We then had an an open vent from the bathroom which allowed lots of noise in from the corridor although you shut the bathroom door you can still hear. Hot water was on and off from freezing cold to scalding hot and bathroom wasn’t particularly clean. The aircon machine was louder then I’m usually used too. Although people have complained about the trains (which I’ll admit was annoying) having spoken to many people, all hotels even the mount Lavinia all experiences the noises so this cannot be helped and the hotel cannot control whether the driver honks or not. Breakfast was okay. Selection wasn’t fantastic and sometimes wasn’t fresh. I can see this hotel being great for locals travelling the country but in comparison to European and western standards this was very low down in my books.

Really nice experience..and we got a nice..rose..specialy thanks to tharaka...who served us on valentines night to us....and realy tasty lime and soda we had.dat also marvelous.....ang nice music.....highly recommend tharaka ...and your food...

My travel agent booked this hotel for our last night in Sri Lanka thinking it was a good value option before our long flight. We were very disappointed with every aspect of the hotel. After 2 weeks travelling and staying in great accommodation across the country and spending an average of $50-60AUD we were expecting a lot more for $136AUD a night. The hotel is very shabby to say the least. The location is on the beach which is the only plus! The hallways and general condition of the walks/doors etc was filthy. There were fold up beds in the hall with the most disgusting mattress’s I’ve ever seen. The room was no better, the bathroom was so old but also dirty. The towels had stains and I’m not sure the sheets were that clean. The surfaces were all dusty, even the paper towel the cups were on was dirty. Flies everywhere! Breakfast was average and everything again looked dirty. Again, flies everywhere. We couldn’t wait to get out of there! The staff were ok but seemed to be hanging around for tips. We travel a lot and don’t stay in high end places so are happy to stay at budget hotels but this isn’t supposed to be a budget hotel so we expected general cleanliness and a bit more value for the cost. I’m am recommending my travel agent take them off the preferred list for Colombo. Don’t stay here.

I stayed at this hotel in December for Christmas. Hotel staff were very friendly and food was good. Only problem we had was at the swimming pool. When I requested a pool towel, the pool attendant simply said there no pool towels. This cannot be accepted from a star category hotel.
