Well, let me just say that my experience at this hotel was less than acceptable. Upon checkin for a prepaid room for two people we were informaed that I could not share a room with my long time Tunisian friend and that we would have to pay for two room at a ridiculous price. After discussing this with the staff at the desk who were unwilling to budge I asked for their complaint register (which I belive they are required by law to keep). After denying they had one they lowered the price for the additonal room but I still resented paying extra for a room we didnt want and didnt need. More than anything I resented their attitude which we have occassionally seen at other hotels in Tunisia but which seems to have gotten better at all of the other hotels we stayed at. As for the property. I'm sure the rooms were quite nice in 1970. Today, however, they are dated and of poor quality. Doors don't lock well and lack basics like safe deposit boxes and are fairly sparsely decorated and furnished. The food is pretty bad if you can get there in time to get it. I had much better food at my university cafeteria and didn't have to fight mobs to get it. And the restaurant staff try to clear the food like 15 minutes before the meal time ends so don't plan on showing up late in the meal time. Obviously the beach is beautiful and the pool is ok - again kind of dated. The disco is lively. The animation program stale. All in all a kind of dated and mediorce property with staff attitudes lacking. There are so many better choices in Sousse you'd be better off with nearly any of them.
The hotel was overcrowded, staff unfriendly, very dirty environment. Loud music was spreading through the whole hotel til early morning. Receptionists did not speak english. The alcohol in a bar was terrible and bartenders unbelievably slow. The room is okay once you pay extra 50€ for superior room (no matter how long you stay, you need to pay 50).
Hotel decent. Nice aqua park and swimming pool. Food ok but the restaurant seemed to be dirty all the time as the service couldn't keep up with the guests changing tables. Lovely beach with delicate almost white sand. Clean sea .Food monotonous.
Did not enjoy my stay at this hotel was not worth the money room was not ready food was not very good . We had to pay at the hotel and I'll price was in pounds but they wanted us to pay in euros and I told them know we did end up paying the English price so just be careful
Marabout is a 1 star hotel. Rooms are in very poor condition. Even when I offer extra money for nice room the respond was this hotel is very old and poor we dont have any good rooms. Receptionists are lazy dont rush to serve customer or solve the problem. In hotel the is only 1 restaurant under ground but not suitable for family with children cos there is no lift. Food is very poor and cold. To have some meat we need to wait about 20 min cos hotel is full of rude russians and they fight between themself to take some food. At the moment hotel is under water. Massive leakage on each floor. We are really disappointed. Hotel dont deserve 3 stars at all. Definately not recommend
Great Location, you can find restaurants, Bars and coffee shops everywhere... We were well welcomed, the receptionist offered us a superior double room with half board instead of breakfast only with more discount when we paid for our stay.
I stayed at this hotel many times. I like the ambiance and the beach. The rooms in the new building are 4 star level. kids love the pool, the slides and the mini disco. It's always full and it's easy to mingle with other tourists. I like the food at the new beach bar and it's not very expensive. The main hall needs a full redecorating as it seems stuck in the eighties.
Hotel overall was quite nice, free Wifi, for most parts of it. Pools were nice, nice qua park for kids in the hotel. It's on the beach too with its own private section not too far from the main town centre, about a 10 minutes drive on a taxi, or horse driven carriage. About 20 minutes away from the beautiful Port El Kantaoui. However the food was seriously disgusting, maybe it wasn't our taste. I'd never go back to the hotel just on the basis of the food. Outside restaurant and takeaway food wasn't great either but far superior to what was on offer here.
I recently stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend and his family, we experienced problems from the point of arrival and it only got worse. When we arrived we were given a different room from which we booked, the air-conditioning was turned off in the full hotel (we visited in October but temperatures were still 30 degrees and above). We were also situated above the animation stage which went on until after 11pm and across the road from the local disco which is open until 4am. As we had his mum (an elderly lady who is in a wheelchair) and his son (who is 10 years old) the noise was unbearable. We asked to switch rooms which they did offer however the next room wasn't much better. We complained further and were moved again to a smaller room but more modern, quieter and cooler so we accepted. Then one day returning from the pool (which is on level one) we discovered the lifts were broken. We went up to speak to reception on level 2 and was told that there was no way to get his mum in her wheelchair to the upper level never mind our room and was told there was nothing they could do. Meanwhile my partners mum who was soaking wet and cold sat down stairs for over an hour as they continued to offer no help and were very rude to us. There was also no manager onsite and they could not contact him either. After a very lengthy debate with the staff they eventually opened up one of the rooms on level 1 for us (these were all closed for the season), this hotel offers no help or access for disabled guests. The only way to get from the pool to the hotel rooms was via the first floor which had lights out and in pitch darkness for the majority of our stay until we complained about this too (total health and safety hazard), we also seen plenty of cockroaches on level one of the hotel. After receiving the room on level one to enable us to get my partners mum washed and dried. We were told the lifts would not be fixed until the next day so we had to split up between the two rooms for that night. The following day when speaking to the manager we were only then offered a better room in the other side of the hotel which had been refurbished and was what we originally booked. This side of the hotel was also shut for the season. I work in travel and it does not make any sense to myself as to why a hotel which granted is quiet would close down the better side of their premises and only book out the rooms on the poor side of the hotel. Surely they should use the better side and close the poor side so as to avoid complaints and perhaps look to improve the poor side at the quiet periods. The hotel was definitely not up to standard and was an absolute disgrace. The level of customer service we received was totally unacceptable and we have put in a complaint with the company we booked through as the hotel refused to do anything. So after having to move rooms 5 times within a week, have no manager to speak to when problems arise I decided to warn others from making the same mistake I did and book this hotel. The only positive I can say about this hotel is that the pool area and lifeguard was good and the restaurant staff were friendly although food was also very poor. My boyfriend is originally from Tunisia so this was not because we were tourists. The country is a beautiful place to visit and I have had many great holidays here and do not want anyone being put off visiting this country by experiencing what we did at this hotel. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!
An unexpected nice surprise... To be honest I picked this accommodation by chance, for the reasonably low price and good location, thus I didn't expect to have such a great time here. Some of the 4 star hotels I have been had less to offer than the Le Marabout. It is located in Sousse, not far from downtown, you can even walk to the center. Lots of shops nearby, and there is a small shop in the hotel as well for souvenirs and snacks. The hotel has a pleasant hall, spacious restaurant, outside cafe and bars. The bar for half board guests (drinks are for paying) are really very well done, pretty, modern with comfortable sofas, it is worth to spend some time there. The outside pools are amazing, it is also an aqua park with slides. All the facilities are well kept and clean. One wing has updated rooms (superior), modern European style design, flat screen tv, new furniture.... the other wing has older interior, rooms are not updated, but still okay and clean, having the Tunisian tiles on the wall. The hotel staff was very kind, smiley and helpful. I was there not in peak times of the high season, so maybe they were not so overly busy. The food was just great. The selection offered is not the widest I have ever experienced, but nevertheless delicious and good quality. Being there in September, there were more than enough beds around the pool and on the beach. Free mattresses are part of the service (towel is not). Just off the beach there is an outside restaurant offering beach food: burgers, fries, salads, fish and chicken, fruits and some sweets, in case you prefer not to go inside hotel restaurant. Drinks are also available at this open air place. There is an animation team doing their best to entertain you, so you can participate in activities, and they do the evening show as well. Now I was very happy also to use the free wifi, not only available around the reception, but all over the hotel, and sometimes it even worked on the beach! Wow... in a 3 star hotel! So all in all, I loved being there. I was on a tight budget, but I got more than I expected. so I will definitely return next year, and I really recommend the Le Marabout to everybody.
