This hotel is excellent. Our room was ideal but all the rooms are different because it was a monastery dating from the 15 century. The meals wee excellent, breakfast was very good as was dinner the staff is very good and the town is very walkable. The is an outstanding museum of tapestry. See my review of it. It is special
We booked a night at this hotel but the 2 ** version which adjoins it. Our room was right at the top up 2 flights of stairs. The room itself was clean and comfortable and the shower worked great once you got the hang of it! The hotel also allows pets which meant we could take our dog. In the evening we tried to get a coffee from the bar. The very pleasant barman quickly took our order but then vanished for about 20 minutes. When he did reappear he was most apologetic and gave us the coffees free. A similar delay happened when we asked for a beer later but these were not offered free! At 3€ for a small beer these are not cheap drinks! Breakfast, which is in the same place for both hotels was a huge let down. There were only 2 cold meats on offer, 2 cheeses and sliced bread. The unsliced bread was not refilled and it was only 9am. I was put off as well by the fact that one pair of guests had brought their admittedly very well behaved labrador into the breakfast room with them and they were next to the cold meat table. The grounds of the hotel were excellent for a gentle stroll with our own dog before we set off home. The building was originally the world famous Abbey School and continued as an educational establishment until the 1990's albeit as a military training school from about 1800 I think! The rooms have a very informative booklet with the history of the School in it in English and French.
Great place for a stop over Different atmosphere Very quiet (even though there was a wedding party) Roomy rooms, large double beds (could be softer though!) Good place to stay at Ok price-quality ratio, better than branded/chain hotels for the same cost
In July, we went to Soreze for work. All my colleagues were staying in the main building which is nice, cosy and clean. BUT they gave me a room in the back of the building which is more like a barn. Already the staircase is very dirty and old. The room is small, dark and very old. The worst is that it is very loud. You can hear EVERYTHING. At night I had the feeling that someone was walking in my room. Not to mention when the toilet was flushed. The next day, I went to the reception and the ladies there agreed that I could get a room in the main building the next day. When I went at the reception the next day, the Office Manager did not want to give me the room. I explained to her that this was the agreement I had with hear employees the day before. Then she started shouting at me and saying that she does not have a room. This was VERY rude and unprofessional. Especially being the Officer Manager there. Clearly this lady is not suitable to do this job. At the end I could change the room to the main building and the room was nice but I still don't like the fact that this lady was so rude.
We were traveling with a small group and stayed at the Abbaye for two nights. The rooms were adequate but the beds were somewhat hard for us. The bathroom lacked in having a tub/shower easy to use especially for shorter people. Like many places in Europe, showers are an afterthought. Meals were very good especially their breakfast,
Soreze is some sort of French ghost town. When people say there is nothing there, they are not lying. There IS nothing there. But the abbey is a must stay. One, or at the most, two nights will be all that is needed but you are in for a delightful treat. The rooms are good and spacious and the halls vanish into the distance. It is haunted so beware. Part of the abbey is a restaurant. You must eat here. You will personally witness some of the finest French food you may ever taste. We were pleasantly shocked when we dined at the restaurant. This is where technical, skill, balance and shear good cooking appear as a tasty morsel before you. You have died and gone to French heaven. You will not go away full but pleasantly satisfied and you will find yourself talking about your experience at the hands of a French master for days. Heaven on a plate in a French Abbaye.
The location was in a small nice village and the hotel outside was ok. the communal spaces were fine but the rooms were in poor - very poor conditions. I felt more being in a hospital rather than a hotel. If the price of the room was at below 100 euro, it could have been acceptable (although still poor interior design), but at such a high price this is a disappointment.
Back to the past... Here is a very romantic place in a historic setting. Went here for several times, either for professional conventions or for a short break. Always perfect. High level restauration. Comfortable rooms, old of course, but all what you may need is here.
The hotel is nice with rich history and the charm of the old days. Staffs were nice. The restaurant is very good too. However, the sauna concept is weird and we have to pay for swimming pool. The village surrounding and nearby attraction is good to spend 1 or 2 days.
