I was there with 4 others on a buisness trip. The hotel from the front desk to housekeeping were simply divine! No it is not a 5 star, but for the service alone it gets 5 stars! Internet is free but only in the small lobby, I perfer being in the room of course! Breakfast was basic but FILLING! They even will cook fresh eggs for you! Yes the train is basically right at the hotel across the street, but the windows are SOUND PROOF.. and if you still not satisfied they will move you to the other side of the hotel. No bar that I knew of..but machine to get you a beer :) Also they have a small GYM room.. that gets 1 star( so sorry) the machine were almost useless, but the SAUNA..yep a SAUNA was USED the whole week! :) Front Desk colses at 10pm. No need to hang around I guess! lool! Thanks again Kempe Team!!!
We Checked in after a long drive and were really tired, As soon as we saw the room we were very impressed. It is very well appointed, there is a little kitchen, and a bathroom. Everything was very clean and the staff very helpful stuff. The underground parking made us feel a little bit more secure that our car was safe Overnight. Breakfast was in a medium sized restaurant, and was made up of what you would typically expect for a German/continental breakfast. The beds were comfortable, the sheets were clean as well as the towels. The only thing I can say is a bit of a drawback was that the door to the bathroom was extremely small and if you are Bigger than the average size person you would have to get into the bathroom sideways. That said the bathroom toilet bath and shower were very clean and maintained on a daily basis. If we were to return to the area we would most definitely stay at the hotel again. Despite the hotel being across the road from the railway line it was not at all noisy. Thank you very much to all of the team at the hotel for making our stay so pleasant, for being so friendly and helpful, and for going out of their way to help us with small things like adapter plugs and finding access to the Internet.
We have just stayed 2 nights at this hotel as we have come to visit friends in Dusseldorf. Check in was good. Our room was at the rear of the hotel so was nice and quiet. We had a large room and although fairly basic it was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was OK with choice of cereals, ham, cheese breads etc. All the staff were helpful and woul answer any questions you had
As other comments mentions, it is very very close to the railway. We were scared when we arrived since our room is directly facing the railway. But the window are doing a very good job!! i am sensible; i usually sleep with earplug but i really had no problem to sleep (well, in the same time i was tired of the long walking days....). Its a good 15 minutes walking from the station. the walk is not really a refreshment...But the rooms are very good, very clean. Thje breakfast is also very good. We reserved one night and we wanted to book for an ohter night. So we asked the staff who told us that we have to book on internet to get a better price...but on internet it was impossible to book for the same day........so we had to pay 20 euros more (10 each)....for me that is really crazy. i cant understand that the policy also apply for people already in the hotel...Finally, when we left, we paid less than expected but i cant understand also why..the description of the fees were not consistent. it is the first time i see that... So finally, not a bad option, but probably there is still some bettter ones...
This hotel is located right on the train tracks and therefore extremely noisy all day and night. It is just impossible to get any sleep.
Other reviews note that a small road separates this hotel from a major rail line. That's true. However, I just didn't find this a problem despite having a room on the second floor, "rail side" of the building. In my case, it helped that the weather was not hot and so I closed the window while sleeping. With an open window, you'll get an education in German train engine noises every 30 minutes or so at night as I did while using the Internet before going to bed. (There's no A/C; the window has a thoughtful notice about its noise insulation rating.) BTW, vibration is not an issue. Now for the "positives". Attentive, very smart staff. Free Internet, free parking. Clean rooms. Indeed, the room had a fridge, small kitchen and stocked mini-bar. Before my arrival, I notified staff that I may arrive after 11 pm and they explained the procedure - but then they were there when I arrived at 11:15 pm. Parking is free but full if you arrive late. Local street parking is available, staff will direct you. Solingen is not Paris so it would be more accurate to say that the hotel is in a "suburban" location surrounded by low-rise apartments and, I gather, a train station. I think that you could easily get to it by taxi or public transport. I used a GPS. Would I stay again? Absolutely - if only to ride the curious all-glass elevator.
The hotel describes its location as in the quaint town ot Solingen Ohligs. What is doesn't say is that it over looks at least 5 high speed and local railway lines, all of them well used day and night. We arrived at 5pm on a Friday evening and could not believe the noise level generated by the thundering high speed passenger and cargo trains. Even though the sticker on the window said the windows gave up to 46 decibels of sound protection, they didn't prevent the other 50 decibels from getting though. Ear plugs are an essential item in your luggage if you stay here and my advice is make sure you have a couple of local beers to help you drift off. In saying all this, i actually slept ok. I woke every couple of hours, but the trains backed off to every half an hour through the night making it bearable (with the ear plugs). You certainly would not have a quiet evening in watching the TV, you wouldn't be able to hear it. Nice local bar in town, Bavrisches Wirtshaus is recommended for friendly service, good beer and food. Our room rate was £200 due i think to the high demand in the area this weekend, hence my comment that it was overpriced. I would have expected to pay no more that £70 for this quality hotel at any other time. Rooms were very clean, staff friendly and courteous, breakfast a bit dissapointing, but was ok. Shame no tea or coffee in room.
Solingen is not well known as a tourist destination. Still, there are many nice museums and some decent restaurants. What might surprise even more is the amount of excellent foot and cycle paths. Especially for walkers relying on public transport to get to the starting point or return from the finish, Solingen provides an excellent combination of good urban bus services and very nice surroundings. The hotel itself is very close to public transport: only 5 minutes from a trolleybus stop (with a very frequent service at day time) and less than 15 minutes from the Central Station. Still the beautiful Ittertal is only a 15 minutes walk away. The only flaw is that the train passes the hotel so closely that it may keep you awake at night, although it didn't in my case. Anyway, even if awake the room is very comfortable, with even an nice couch to relax. There's also a minibar.
