My first visit to Sitka for work, beautiful place to visit, stayed at the Westmark Hotel. The front desk service was great, the people there were friendly, helpful and on task at all times. Now the restaurant was a different story, just to get someone to LOOK at you while you stand there waiting was difficult, altho I will say some of them look at you and go about their business, so you wait and wait and wait. You can actually stand their and watch the waitresses talking to customers in the bar, while you are waiting, not good. So if you DO stay at the Westmark, I'd say go somewhere else for food and good restaurant service, in my opinion they deserve a 1 at most, BUT like I said the front desk people are GREAT!! Oh and I would have given more stars, but the restaurant brought that down, they don't even offer room service!

A double here costs well over $200, but it is Alaska, and from the outside, this is a nice centrally located hotel. But here's are story, and I think we're not the only ones to experience it. We arrived early, at 11 am, and figured we'd drop off luggage because check-in time is 3 pm, which is understandable, no issue here. They volunteered to have our room ready by noon, so we hung around, but noon came and went. Annoying, but it's still before check-in time. So we told them we were headed out for harbor tour and would be back at 5. We came back at 5:30, and our room was still not ready. We went to dinner, came back at 6:30, they were still working on it, and at 7 pm we finally checked in. Next thing to happen, the sunlight in bathroom would not go off, and the room was hot. We told the front desk and we're informed that there are no maintenance people after 6. Next day we had to remind them to fix it, and off we went for a full day of touring. Upon return, our room had not be cleaned or touched at all. Back to the front desk, where we were informed that there is no housekeeping after 6 pm. "Had you left the 'Do Not Disturb Sign' on the door?" they asked. No, but a room down the hall still had a "Please make up this room sign displayed." I guess they were out of luck too. Through all this the staff showed nothing more than polite indifference. You judge. Should you pay even $50 for a hotel that has not housekeeping or maintenance staff available after 6 and seems not to care at all when basic things have not available? And, by the way, although it's centrally located, there's more of a "peak" at the harbor in many rooms, not a view, though that was not a big factor in our not a "view." Buyer beware.

This was a perfectly nice hotel. Had a nice view of mountains from our room. Not large but adequate. Front desk staff was helpful. Stayed here before boarding an Alaska Dream Cruise [7 days ] to Juneau.

This was a great hotel for the price! We were visiting for 3 days and two nights and went fishing on 2 of the days. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful on places to see and places to eat. The rooms were basic rooms but had everything you need when on a fishing trip. We will stay here again for sure due to it being an easy walking distance to the docs for fishing (see my review on Alaska Adventures Unlimited) and right in the middle of town for shopping and eating.

I spent one night at the Westmark Sitka Hotel at a cost of almost $300 for one person. There was no view except for the street outside my window so I wasn't even paying for a view or balcony. It was a standard room with two double beds and the basic amenities. The internet was so slow it was practically of no use. The room lacked any character or decoration--just a plain white room. The room was clean so that was not an issue and it was quiet except for the street noise. Since there is no AC you have to keep your window open for any fresh air. The front desk staff was not very friendly or welcoming. But what got me was the price--$300 for one night. I paid less than that for a five star hotel beach front room in Hawaii and at least I had a view. At best this is a three star hotel--nothing more--but it's the price that makes it so outrageous. Stay at the Super 8 for half the price and the same kind of room. Perhaps the opening of the new hotel with force the Westmark to price their rooms more reasonably.

This hotel is one of the few available in town, but better get their act together this year before the new Aspen Suites hotel opens across the street. We were told room was not ready after waiting 5 hours, but then someone else (seemed like the desk manager) was able to find one that had been cleaned. Front desk staff very nonchalant and disinterested--not just low key which one would expect in Alaska. Stay in the new hotel.

The food was ok. The service was ok. The view was tremendous! The patio is situated overlooking the marina with a spectacular backdrop of mountains. Beat the rush as the patio is the spot to enjoy and it fills up quickly with ships in port.

We enjoyed our stay at the Westmark while in town for a conference. The room was clean, spacious and included a small fridge. Had a very nice seating area by the window. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant downstairs had excellent food offerings without being too expensive. Very centrally located and we were able to walk everywhere we needed to go.

Sitka is a very small island town and the Westmark Sitka Hotel is a very small hotel. Do not set your expectations too high. I would compare it with a Howard Johnson Hotel. The staff is friendly and responsive to our requests. There was a refrigerator in our room. The only frustration was the Wi-Fi connectivity. There is free Wi-Fi in the rooms but the connection was so poor that I pretty much could not get online. Occasionally at 3 or 4 in the morning, I succeeded. But if you need reliable connectivity, be prepared!

We stayed here for a week while on a salmon fishing trip. It was comfortable and clean. The people were very nice and the food was okay. We went to Alaska for the outdoor and fishing experience and didn't expect a posh hotel. This hotel was good for the money and we were not disappointed.
