this place is central and has a view from the front. You can have your meals and drinks right on site. Not the fanciest thing, but one of the best in this small town. the lobby is cute with a fireplace and staff is nice.
We stayed here two days. The hotel was neat and clean. The rooms are small and pretty spartan but the public spaces are warm and welcoming. The staff was pleasant to deal with. The hotel was recommended by our cruise line and met our expectations. The hotel is centrally located near the harbor and within easy walking distance of most of the attractions.
Two of ordered veggie and one dungeness crab eggs benedict. Eggs were cooked - more than well done, very hard. As there are not many places to have breakfast in Sitka, even in summer, be very specific in ordering.
Convenient to walk around time for our one night visit. The double beds are quite small so having two was good. Convenient shuttle to and from the airport. Assisted with the taxi and also asking the taxi to return after our visit to the bear sanctuary.
The rooms are comfortable, with an alright view from the top floor. Not bad for a night. Our bathtub hadn't been cleaned properly, there were still black dirt marks all over the side and floor. The restaurant has average food, with below average service. Peak dinner and breakfast seems to be understaffed, with only one server and one busboy working, so be prepared to wait for service and for the food.
We stayed 2 evenings at the Westmark. The lobby is comfortable, nicely decorated, welcoming. Our room, while a little small, held a king bed, 2 tables, a chair, large dresser, full size mirror, and a well appointed bathroom. My criteria is always the same: clean, quiet, comfortable. 2/3 here. First, even though an older hotel, its updated nicely; the furnishings and decor are very nice. The hallways smell fresh, not that awful febreeze fresh, but just out of the shower fresh! Quite a nice change from most hotels. The carpets, and walls in the halls are very clean, and the rooms are exceptionally clean. Our bed was comfortable! We slept well. There was a memory foam like topper on the mattress which added to the comfort.... no stiffness or backache in the morning. This hotel, like others, does not have air conditioning, and it was warm and humid in Sitka. While they do offer fans, we also like the window open; like other hotels we stayed at, the windows DO open! This is where they drop a star though. We were in room 522, stay away from even rooms in the '20's! While we had a view of the harbor!, we were also right over the alley for deliveries, kitchen, garbage, and....right next to the Moose Lodge. On Friday and Saturday night, the Moose Lodge is full. The doors are open, and they love kareoke! We had to close the window and rely on the fan. In the morning you get the noise from the kitchen below. Saying that, this hotel really has nice features: the restuarant has good food!, large servings, great service. They have a guest laundry, $1.50 a load, both washer and dryer. Beware, the dryer only runs about 35 minutes!, but when you're on the road, it's a god-send. The front desk is fabulous at helping you with anything, and then there's this super-comfy lounge/ waiting area with leather couches, chairs, larger sized tv, games and books. A gem of a space. Another great thing about this hotel is the location. It's very close to the public harbor, docks, visitor center, library, as well as walking distance to the shops and other retuarants and sights. It's also across the street from the Post Office....a PO that is open until 5:30 on Saturdays! I loved how the vast majority of the shops were local, and I helped the economy a great deal! So, some tips: I would stay here again, but get a room that is an odd number (523 vs 522). I travel with Tide Pods so that I can do laundry and not have to buy soap. We shipped 7 boxes of gifts, clothes etc. from the post office, which made the remaining 8 days of our trip vastly easier. Lastly, take advantage of the friendliness of the hotel staff and townspeople... they're wonderful!
We Stayed at both hotels so if you can't decided, Westmark is about $75 more per night. For that you get amenities like a shuttle service, restaurant in the hotel, and better service at the desk. The rooms at both places are about the same, a bit larger at the Super 8. The Super eight has a very comfortable leather chair, but Westmark has two chairs with a small table. Both places have laundry service. The view for us at least was pretty much the same. Both clean and have comfortable beds.
Great lodging in Sitka. Staff helped us out with numerous requests and helped make our Sitka visit fun with their referrals. Rooms are pretty large and restaurant is very good. Location is right in the center of town, and near the marinas.
We stopped in for a quick bite before heading back to our ship- tacos were $20 and a sandwich was $25- I'd look elsewhere!! Service was good and there was a TV playing the news.. Sitka is a precious little town just not many places to eat!
clearly a dated hotel which has undergone some upgrades and renovations. The rooms appear recently repainted and the bath was updated. Unfortunately, the bed has not found the renovation, it was an old box spring and mattress which moved every time I took a breath causing sleeplessness for both y partner and me. It is a clean facility and hopefully they will upgrade the mattresses before too long.
