Stayed at Amber Inn for 5 nights in August 2017 My husband and I had a room and son stayed in another room.We came to Le Mars for the Old Time Country Music Festival from England. The rooms were dark, dingy and very old fashioned.Dark brown walls ,dark brown bed covers & dark brown bulky old furniture.Wierd smell in the room like stale water.Bed sheets old and worn & horrible dirty cream colour, did not look as though bed linin had been changed.Taccky old banket with cigarette burns .NO Duvets just nastry brown bed cover ,Sure like brown at this place.Bath tub filthy & wash basin .Had no choice but to stay as arrived after midnight,Wish had booked Holiday Inn but was recommended this Motel by local who had stayed here, .Stripped bed next morning to make sure fresh linen put on!!.Bed was very high so difficult to get in being only 5ft 2in.The only good thing was the breakfast,Good choice of hot or cold or both if wanted .Have stayed in Motels all over the world and know they are never 5* but I do expect cleanliness .Amber Inn needs a total make over to bring up to date, needs light paintwork ,modern furniture ,and good housekeepers.Towels were changed every day but were. old and stained..Was glad when our stay was over & we moved on to Memphis If I ever return to Le Mars would stay at Hoilday Inn,bit more to pay but assured comfort & cleanliness. To sum this place up in one word would be disgusting..as there was also a disgusting smell of sewer just outside the main door. One word to describe this Motel,NASTY.
As soon as I saw this property I knew that it was where I would stay that night. The building was long and stretched out but well renovated. My room was a drive up to the door affair but there were also rooms behind us that had front of property access . . . An arrangement I've never seen before. The room was fairly clean with micro and fridge but no coffee pot. Breakfast was pretty good with scrambled eggs and meat and fried potatoes. Also had the regular Continental offerings. This would certainly be my choice if ever in the area again.
The minute I pulled in I wondered what I had gotten myself into. This is a older budget MOTEL. The room was large and cleanish. The sheets and towels were very worn. The bed was ok. Rust colored water came out of the tub facet when I turned it on.....needless to say I did not take a shower. I won't stay again but other then the tub I didn't have any big issues. If you just need a place to sleep at a price it might be fine for you. But for me....I know there are other budget hotels 20 miles either direction. I think I'll drive on next time.
I stayed for two nights, the cost was $65 a night with the room with the NS-shower. It was a nice shower, but the overhead nozzle didn't work. Still it was nice. Breakfast was waffles, cereals, toast, sausage, egg patties, muffens, toast, donuts, milk, juice, and coffee. Wifi included. You get what you pay for.
Back again to the Amber Inn. Quite adequate facility. In an earlier review, I commented on the "Thou Shall Not" posters up all over the property...well, they must have softened a bit as we didn't see them on this trip. We did stay in the 'big' room with three beds (and with Iowa being thoroughly covered by politicians every four years, the room had the added mantel of "George HW Bush" room). We found everything in good repair, though we commented the carpet looked a bit worn already, considering it'd only been a few years since it had been replaced. The room service seemed a bit pinched---one of the beds was barely even pulled up, and the sheets didn't seem to be changed on the others. The breakfast was still very good for the price point. We'll continue using the Amber Inn.
With an unexpected death in my family we had to travel to Le Mars to attend the funeral. The regular rate was $65 and they only gave us $5 off per night as the "bereavement rate". Most hotels offer more than that. Also the lady at the front desk was, at best, cordial. She didn't have any sympathy for us whatsoever even after the situation had been explained. If I'd had more money I would have chosen a different hotel all together but this was the only place we could afford. The room was decent but the AC could use some updates. The bed was firm but comfortable. There was a recliner in the room that made an awful metal sound when you reclined it. The internet wasn't reliable nor was it secured by a password. They did offer free breakfast in the morning and that was actually pretty good most days. The normal fare of cereal, yogurt, pastries and waffles were available along with a different hot breakfast item like biscuits and gravy, which was actually quite good!
This hotel is much nicer than it appears on the outside. Very cheap rates with breakfast included. Our room was nicely redone despite it being an older motel. The only complaint was a urine odor in our room indicating the carpet needed shampooed. Great beds, tv, and shower.
We stayed at the Amber Inn on Thursday, June 16, 2016 and found all the positive reviews to be right on the money. A great place even though it looks rather unappealing. Don't let looks guide you. This was clean and tidy, well maintained, the desk clerk was pleasant and the price was so inviting. I'd stay there again. The place was full, or almost full, so we weren't the only ones who found this treasure.
Management is pleasant, room was clean and comfortable. It was very hot that weekend and the ac worked very well. Room was quiet. They have a fitness room and laundry, but did not use either. They have a typical, small breakfast. We opted to eat out. Microwave and refrig in room.
The motel was just what we needed for a one night stay though people do stay for much longer. Clean, pleasant, good value, comfortable beds, breakfast was good except jelly packets were too old. The basics are all there without the flair of higher priced places.
