We travelled Italy for 10 days in (boiling hot!) August and this was our relaxing chilled portion of the trip and it couldn't have been better! We absolutely adored this hotel and fell in love with Siena. I'm already dreaming of when can next come to visit. The only downside for us was that we only got to stay for 3 nights! The hotel has a lovely rustic,Tuscan villa feel and felt very peaceful and authentically Italian. The staff were wonderful and made us feel so welcome. The breakfast we had on the last morning was delicious and the seating area outside is a lovely place to start to the day. They also have an awesome pancake maker which any children staying seemed to be loving! Our room was lovely and spacious and was a little mini apartment with a kitchen and dining table. Excellent bathroom with jacuzzi bath. The bed was also really comfortable and room was cool in hot summer months. The hotel grounds are beautiful, surrounded with olive trees and with views of Siena sitting on top of the hill from the pool area. Even in August the hotel seemed very peaceful and calm. We had been staying in Rome for a few days before arriving in Siena and it was absolutely boiling. The washing room in Borgo Grondaie was much needed and a great amenity to have access to and freshen up our clothes. The hotel is just up a hill from a supermarket if you are going completely self catering and very easy to get to. To get into Siena itself on foot, is around 30 mins walk and you have to go up a series of escalators up to the top of the hill. We quite enjoyed this walk as it was a bit of an adventure. Perhaps if you are slightly older, travelling with young children or less able to walk for long distances than you may want to get a taxi which I'm sure wouldn't cost too much. As well as exploring Siena from this hotel, its great as a base if you have a car too, we hired a car for 3 days and drove through Chianti on one day and went the other way the next day exploring San Giminagno and surrounding towns easily. You could also easily get the train or drive to Florence if just visiting for a day from Borgo Grondaie. We would without a doubt visit stay here again, we had such a wonderful time and I think would be a beautiful location any time of year. Siena is a wonderful town as well, and I think my favourite place we visited in Italy, it really does have a charm. I cannot wait to visit again in the future and will be recommending to any friends or family who are thinking of visiting Tuscany.
We have just spent 10 days at this hotel and an excellent stay. Clean and comfortable with excellent breakfast and passable dinner. Very close to Siena but despite what others say not within walking distance of the centre unless you are a very keen walker as it is a steep uphill walk. No charge for towels for the pool and the code for the wifi lasts 7 days not 1 as others have written.
Our stay here was amazing . The staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble . Advice given on restaurants to eat in and places to go. Although their restaurant had lovely food at great value. Very clean peaceful and the grounds were traditional Italian culture. We enjoy it so much would definitely go back .
We spent 3 nights at the Borgo Gondaie and it was just delightful. The accommodation was great, the grounds were beautiful, the staff were very good. The location was great and convenient to a shopping centre.
We all enjoyed our 4 night stay in Olivi One an apartment with a mezzanine level bedroom and shower room, sleeping 4. The air conditioning was efficient and needed in July! Plenty of free car parking, helpful staff and the supermarket 5 mins away was fantastic. Kitchen sufficiently equipped. No cleaning or towel changes for 4 nights was a slight disappointment. We also had to take our own rubbish to the communal bins next to the supermarket, not ideal but done all the same. We self catered breakfast and lunches. We ate at the hotel twice, outdoors, but were faced with the same menu both nights. Food good but would have loved some more variety, especially with teenage children and a vegetarian. The walk to the town centre is around 40mins and staff will show you the route on a map involving the many, many escalators. The train station is a 10 minute walk away and we used this for a day trip to Florence with ease. Pool great size, clean and not busy. There are no umbrellas or shade poolside so we purchased one in the supermarket! Would definitely recommend as a base in this area of Tuscany.
Located very near to the station with easy access to the city. The gardens, rooms and swimming pool are first class. Great for visiting the city and then relaxing in the gardens, you felt you were miles away from civilisation. Good breakfast, but the evening meals were average, but with so many good restuarants in the city why worry. The receptionist recommended a brilliant place in the city that we would never have found or go into, it was one of the best meals we had in Italy and certainly the best value got money, unfortunately I can't recall the name. Would I stay here again? Certainly without a doubt.
We have returned to the Borgo 4 years straight and one thing is always the same. Fantastic relaxing place and a wonderful staff. Even after 4 years we are looking forward to the next time we will stay at the Borgo Grondaie. Thanks to the entire staff at the Borgo.
We loved the setting of Borgo Grondaie. The gardens and apartments were just as we imagined a Tuscan villa to be. Our one bedroom apartment was very well presented and included all the necessary things for our stay. The only problems were our beds (twin singles) were quite uncomfortable and the loft bedroom was difficult to keep cool. Though it was a short walk to the city centre (20min), it was definitely worth it to be able to come home each day and make our own picnic to have in the gardens. The grocery store just a 5min walk away, had everything we needed and more for our picnics. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive, and the breakfast that we added to our room rate was well worth it. This was a lovely Tuscan experience.
We stayed in a one bedroom apartment at Borgo Grondaie in November 2016. I chose this property because it was out of the busy main centre of Siena. Also, we like a bit of space if we are staying for more than a couple of nights and the one bedroom apartment was perfect. The property also has the added bonus of a laundry which we needed after travelling for a few weeks already. The apartment was excellent. Perfectly clean and well appointed with a very comfortable king bed. We had everything we needed to cook dinner each evening. Down the hill is a fabulous supermarket with everything you need to self cater. Breakfast is also available in the cosy breakfast room at the property if you don't want to self cater. Thank you to Gaia for taking such good care of us and giving us many tips on what to see and do in and around Siena. Thank you to Amina for responding to my questions about the laundry so quickly and in such a friendly way. It is a great place to stay if you have a car as there is ample parking. It is a long walk into Siena but not impossible. There are plenty of car parks you can drive to on the outside of Siena's city walls if you don't want to walk. The location is very pretty with lovely views of the city walls and the countryside. We highly recommend this property to anyone planning a stay in Siena.
We stayed 3 nights in Apartment 1. We chose this country-style hotel because we wanted somewhere peaceful, relaxing and quiet to come back to after our sight-seeing day trips and particularly away from the tourist crowds in the city of Siena. This hotel was not hard to find and well sign-posted from Siena Station. There is plenty of parking. Our apartment was spacious and well equipped with a good sized fridge which we stocked with our drink supplies from the large co-op supermarket, a 5 minute walk away. As it was quite warm during our stay, a swim in the pool and reading a book on the sun lounges overlooking the beautiful grounds was most welcome. We utilized the laundry facilities and did a load of washing for 3.50 euro and there was plenty of hanging space on the outside line. The buffet breakfast available from 7.30am had good variety, including pancakes. We ate at the restaurant one night - Tuscan beef stew which was very nice. Quality service all round. Wi Fi worked well. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful and fluent in a number of languages. It takes approximately 30 minutes to reach the city of Siena on foot made easier by taking the escalators in the shopping centre from the main train station. There is also a great gelato shop before you reach the city wall. We would highly recommend this hotel, particularly the apartments, to our family, friends and work colleagues visiting Siena.
