Overall the hotel is quiet and clean close to subway and bus. I went during summer time the AC is not cool enough when you first return to the room. They did offer to send in a fan to help cool me down.

The location is in a very convenient area and even has a 7/11 store next to the hotel. Lots of restaurants within walking distance even a McDonald’s. The breakfast was very fresh and delicious style buffet. I definitely enjoyed my time here.

I have stayed (not kidding) over 60 nights at this hotel in 2025 for business. The primary factor was the location near Gongdeok Station, which is amazing for subway access and transfer. Keep in mind that the rooms are smallish (even for Korea), but the main detractors from 5-stars are two-fold: the A/C (for summer visitors) is horrendous; it will not get below 24 in the room, even running it all night. Second, Korea prides themselves on their internet speeds, and the hotel's is the worst I've seen in Korea for WiFi. Drops at least 2 times per hour, so streaming is exceptionally challenging.

Public transportation was nearby. The staff is extremely helpful. Plenty of connivence stores nearby and lots of restaurant options. Plus there was a gym on the floor with a view. The view from our room was amazing. Also there was a park nearby that I could walk.

Unacceptable Cleanliness & Maintenance Issues and Lack of Professionalism by the Staff My three-night stay at Shilla Stay Mapo was profoundly disappointing and did not meet the standards expected of a hotel in the Shilla group. The experience was ruined by serious cleanliness and maintenance issues, which were compounded by a lack of professionalism from the staff, beginning with my check-in. At check-in, I gave my credit card to the receptionist, who then failed to return it to me. I had to realize this myself and retrieve it. This oversight is a significant sign of unprofessionalism and lack of training, and I am very concerned about the security risk it posed. Upon arriving at my room, I discovered two further significant problems. First, the tile trim around the bathroom sink was faulty, leaving a dirty, black residue. This substance stained my pants and was visibly dirty when wiped. Second, I found a large, unidentified, and disturbing oily stain on the underside of the desk. The stain was sticky, and its presence made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable in my room. The hotel's response to these issues was a major disappointment. When I called the front desk, the receptionist seemed to have difficulty with English and did not seem to take my concerns seriously. I was told someone would be sent to my room, but after a long wait, no one arrived. I had to go to the front desk in person, wasting valuable time from my trip to Seoul. This hotel is rated as a four star. In all of my travels I can honestly say that it should be a 3 star. Room pictures are deceiving making them look larger. Lobby has only 2 chairs and a bench. Air conditioning will not cool the rooms any lower than 23.5 C, and room hallways are not air conditioned at all. Buffet breakfast is ok, and staff are very polite and courteous. Building is run down...in need of a major renovation. Been to other Shilla Stay hotels and I have never had these issues in the past
