Thoroughly enjoyable
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in the Sampieri house and Signora Schembri was most welcoming, attentive, and helpful; when we had questions, she was always very prompt and friendly in dealing with them. It would have been helpful to have written details on such things as setting the burglar alarm, working the television, location of rubbish bins, heating the water etc. We felt perfectly at home, safe and secure (despite previous reviews expressing unnecessary concern).
There is a 3 minute stroll down the private road to a small quiet beach and a further delightful walk of ten minutes or so round the headland to the Sampieri waterfront where the beach is huge and superb; in summer months it must be extremely popular. Being now October, the village felt shut up; we found no shops open, only one restaurant and a beach cafe but supermarkets are only ten minutes drive away.
There is plenty of shade round the house and ample seating of every kind and there are glimpses of the sea through the trees. There is some traffic noise but not obtrusive. Inside is quite spacious and well equipped for two persons though four or five visitors might feel that only one comfortable settee is insufficient and kitchen space and utensils are rather limited. Our ageing limbs found the bed rather hard but the air conditioning in the bedroom was most welcome as the first week of our stay was still very hot. There is plenty to see and do in the attractive Ragusa province - though the quality of the roads can mean longer travel times than you might expect! A most enjoyable stay and our sincere thanks go to Carmela.
