Stayed for 3 nights Sunday 27th July to Wednesday the 30th. Found the hotel to be above expectations due to some of the reviews I had read. The room was very clean and tidy, bed very comfortable. The hotel I thought was a wonderful old building in good condition. would definately stay there again.

Break of journey

I prefer the Royal hotel by Britannia over their sister hotel because they are lgbt, non binary and disabled friendly. I decided to break my journey back from Hull pride as have stayed many times before. Excellent staff and a friendly welcome awaits at this Scarborough hotel

First room we were given was small, furniture was stained, portable fan was full of dust, mould around the bath. We asked to move room. Second room was slightly bigger and better but still not brilliant. Wallpaper was loose, water very slow to drain away in sink and bath, damaged sink unit. All just very untidy and tired looking. £183 paid on room only basis. Photos on Expedia were certainly not our impression of this hotel.

Fab dog friendly hotel

Brilliant location - 5 mins from South Bay beach. Room was basic as dog friendly but was clean, comfortable and had storage. Dogs allowed in bar area. Multi-storey car 5 mins away. Indoor pool at £6 a session. Will definitely come back.

Grubby tired uncomfortable

Awful bedrooms, bed was small and rock hard and the furniture is not even fit for a charity shop. Sash window rope was broken, managed to get it open slightly but no wedge to keep it open. Glitter all over bathroom floor, and tiny shower over bath. Grubby and tired and uncomfortable, not worth half of 179 we paid for one night

Cheap hotel, it would have been beautiful in its day but that's just typical of British seaside resorts. Scarborough itself was exactly as I remembered as a child, fun, cheap, tacky but great for a couple of days with kids

Ok for a one night stay

My stay was mixed, I had booked a single room for one night. On arrival I found the bedding to be torn and had a large hole in the quilt cover. I reported this to reception and was moved to a different room, this was a very nice room and the bedding was fine. The hotel itself is quite tired, would benefit from a refurb, there were several leaks around the building. Pleasant staff who were very helpful.

Royal Hotel scruffy cesspit

Arrived at the royal hotel Scarborough to check in gave us our keys and we went to the room to put our bag's in but the room stunk of a over powering damp and fish so we went and informed the reception where they told that they would change our room to a smaller room but that didn't bother us. We went up to the second room which once again had a smell of damp but this room the walls were soaking wet with damp in the area that the bed was and there was paint pealing of the bathroom ceiling. So we again went to reception to inform them of the situation and to ask to be put in another room to this they said no. I informed them i have a low immune system due to having cancer and just finishing my latest round of chemotherapy. He just said sorry but you need to inform customer services and they may give you a refund but in the mean time he would check us out and we can go find somewhere else . But that was not an option due to the fact i can't walk far and we had got the train to Scarborough and then a taxi to the hotel and i was exhausted so we had no option but say for two nights. I felt ill while i was there so i contacted our son who took the day of work to come and pick us up i have been to the doctors when i got back and i am now on antibiotics for a bad chest infection that the doctor said was probably caused by the damp condition of the room. Iwill never go back to that hotel again and think the staff should all go and get re trained

Found quite expensive for the state of the room, dirty places, horrible smell with in the room that hit noses when door opened. Good sized room for family and nice view. Hairs in the cups left for tea. Disappointed with the room rate, did the job which we needed it for just to sleep in. No breakfast included in the price which others for around the same price did have included.
