Really nice family hotel with loads of character, you can tell the owners take pride in their hotel and run a good establishment. when we booked in, we weren't asked for a credit card or passport, its nice to find this old world type of trust these days.

We had an absolutely incredible stay here. The owner (husband and wife) are so very warm and welcoming. Their English is limited, but way better than our French, but there is no problem with communication. The hotel is beautiful and very romantic. Rooms are up to date but kept the feeling of being in the past. It is very comfortable with wonderful bed and pillows and a beautiful big (for Europe) bath. We were lucky to have dinner there. It was cooked by the owners and it was the best experience. Our steak was cooked over the fireplace and everything was homemade and so very delicious., from the soup to potatoes, vegetables and our chocolate dessert. What an experience. I cannot express how special it was and the ambiance is so special. The next morning we had petit dejeuner in their "cave". It was beyond words - from the meal to the atmosphere. This may have been one of the best memories we took away from all our time in Europe.

Don't let the dull entry and location o n the main road put you off! From all the hotels we could see in Saulieu they were very close to the road. We had a room facing the street but two lots of doubled glazed windows almost stopped all the noise... The rooms were very clean and neat with nice timber walls and good bathroom. No airconditioning but a fan mixed up the air as windows needed to be closed due to proximity of road. We ate dinner and breakfast here (provided as part of a cycling tour package) which were basic but nice. Breakfast is provided in a den/ cave style room which is cool. The reception staff did not seem to speak any English but we managed to get by on our very poor French. All up good value for money for 2 star
