When in Burgundy, chateaus are the way to stay. And staying off season like fall can give you bargain rates. This is a beautiful property in a perfect setting. Clean and attentive staff. And if you like golf (we don’t), this might be your place. But the property is a little too large to create intimate settings to meet other travelers. We felt isolated from everyone else and I sense other travelers felt the same way. That’s a shame since we came from another chateau where we stayed in Champagne and it was the perfect size and lots of spaces — inside and out — to chat with fellow travelers. And it’s the people who we meet along the way who make travel fun! Btw the property’s internet wifi is too slow to use. And don’t think about grabbing a bite in the adjoining town since it’s pretty much closed 24/7
We had an absolutely amazing experience. The pre-booking communication from the hotel ensured a seamless arrival and early bookings for several activities. The reception staff were very warm and welcoming , fluent in English and other languages and gladly assisted with phone calls to change some arrangements. The wine tasting at a local winery was superb… but the highlight was a chef’s cooking class! The Head Chef, Jean Alain was wonderful…so warm and genuinely interested in teaching some culinary skills. An absolute rock-star! And the class’ English translator Marco, (himself a chef) who was arranged especially for us was superb… again, very warm and very knowledgeable! The restaurant and the Bistro were different experiences and equally enjoyable. Overall, the castle’s magnificent rooms and setting were complemented by exceptional staff!
Had the room package that included dinner and breakfast. Dinner was very good. The base room is still luxurious, big - bed is super king size. Has all the amenities you would expect - all top level. The golf course is not top class though. Very scrubby fairways with excellent greens - not fairway turf. They have had some very hot weather - so could have contributed to the condition.
After travelling around Europe for a couple of weeks & looking to celebrate an anniversary by playing some golf, we found Hotel Golf Chateau de Chailly. Unfortunately our choice turned out to be very disappointing for what is a 4-star Hotel. Although the bed was comfortable, because the room was in the eaves the sloping ceiling meant we had to be extremely careful not to bang our heads when moving around. This configuration made the room extremely small. Also there were giant fans outside the window, which throbbed all night. The Chateau advertises two restaurants but only one was open for two nights of our 3-night stay. On the evening of our arrival, we were pushed towards the all-inclusive buffet, which as it turned out represented poor value for money. Then, on our first morning rather than being told how breakfast works, which is normal in good class hotels, the waitress’s main aim was to ensure we signed up to eat dinner in the same restaurant that evening, the second restaurant again being closed. We decided to eat breakfast inside. Big mistake as the restaurant was full of flies. Very unhygienic & a truly awful experience. We then played golf. The Course was okay but the pace of play was very, very slow. Hotel Guests “enjoy” a discounted Green Fee of 67-Euro but despite the price not a Marshall to be seen. We tried the swimming pool but the filter made enough noise to wake the dead! We came away with the over-riding impression the Hotel Golf Chateau de Chailly is all about making money, not guest enjoyment & will not return.
Stunning location full of history, great pool, golf and restaurants. The staff treated us like we were family and we loved every part of our stay... Breakfast full of choices and French goodies. Both Le Bistrot and the Restaurant were amazing. Enjoyed many of our dinners al fresco. Wine list and wine experience with the Sommelier Mr LeDieu - simply amazing... The cheese choices!!! The bread!!! The wine!!! The food!!! What is else is there to say. Driving distance to plenty of Burgundy great locations... A "In Country" stay relaxing and amazingly enjoyable. We were blessed with stunning summer days to add to the mix.
Beautiful setting. Badly communicated. Asked what time last service for resturant was. Very embarrassing argument. Had to eat what chef wanted to cook. Paid 400€ for one night stay. Never go back. Very mediocre food. Arrogant staff. Empty Château.
nothing was wanting from our stay. the crowds at breakfast were a little much and the number of inside closely positioned tables made it difficult to negotiate the food collection areas....drinks were a little expensive .........but it is a chateau after all.
Great castle hotel with good golf course on site. Easy to get tee times. Spa and gym facilities a real plus. Dinner at two restaurants, the Armancon was excellent but a bit pricey. Convenient for all burgundy vineyards and local chateau to visit.
Excellent for our stay. The breakfast was OK but their could be more items. The egg machine did’nt work when we needed to use it. For the rest everything was perfect, no negatif comments. We will recommend your hotel at our friends.
The hotel is located in Bourgogne in France in a beautiful area. The Chateau is nicely restored and we spend 5 fantastic days in beautiful surroundings. The staff is very dedicated and highly professional. The kitchen is serving delicious food and the wines are great. Our best recommendations.
