After an agoinizing trip on 401 and 402, with delays of 4 hours reportedly caused by a bunch of bikers blocking traffic, we arrived at our destination, the Quality Inn Sarnia, to be welcomed by a gracious host, who had saved our room, and who directed us to the "Crossroads", an attached eatery, with a positive recommendation for the service (Jonathan) and food. Jonathan sat us down iand in minutes had a fine martini that dissolved much anxiety and tension, followed by a steak done perfectly, and a large fresh ---and special--- garden salad. The welcome, the martini and the meal saved our otherwise dreadful day.
Staff are the highlight of the hotel. Room was drab, poorly lit and there were cobwebs at the corners.Black dirt came out of the bath faucet. Bathroom very small. Bed was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was average. No regular coffee provided in room.
I've been to this hotel a few different times as a last stop on my way to the US. It's really close to the border crossing, and well priced for being so close to the highway and the border. Recently stayed a couple days ago, it had a clean room and pretty comfortable bed, nice tidy bathroom. The hotel breakfast that was included in the price has been and was recently better than expected with lots of selection. I'm not a food snob for clarification, and appreciate reasonable food at a great price. The staff was all friendly and positive, but I am also a friendly and positive person so I think that helps when expecting the same from others. On a side note, we were there on a weeknight. It's not a high end hotel if that's what you're expecting, but I feel that for the price which was about 105 dollars and tax as well as for my purpose which was a stop over, the hotel is every bit deserving of a 5 rating. And no matter what the hotel, we all as adults try to avoid hotels with hockey teams and ball teams of kids, if we're traveling without them that is and I've been lucky that I havn't run into any on my stays here.
This hotel should be very proud of their staff! We arrived around noon on motor bikes, soaked. The young man at the desk was very helpful. We were allowed to check in early, and he offered us his umbrella and held the door while we unloaded our gear. The room was very nice with a coffee pot and fridge. We had a large room comfortable beds and a nice hot breakfast. The price was very reasonable. This will be our place to stay while in Sarnia from now on!
The main asset of this hotel is its staff - courteous, polite, and helpful. However, they cannot make up for the aging infrastructure - no elevators (so you lug your luggage upstairs using a staircase), no automatic sliding entrance doors (which come very handy when your hands are occupied with the luggage), no overhead cover at the hotel entrance (if you need to unload your car under rain).
My wife and I have different needs than the average traveler. Not only did the staff accommodate those needs, but they made the process stress-free. The rates at the hotel are lower than others in the area for the same level of service and room amenities, largely because of the keen business sense of the front-desk manager. The beds are exceptional. The air conditioning is powerful. The breakfast is above-average. This property would be only a 4-star "very good" normally, but the quality and attentiveness of the staff raise it a level. Is this the Ritz? No. But it's a well-priced, comfy room in a great location.
The room was dark and dingy, the reason being that it had a very small window. In that case there should have been decent lighting but as usual most hotels put the lowest light bulbs in. The bathroom was small and hardly any space on vanity for necessities. We asked the woman at the front desk for a recommendation for an Italian restaurant. She said she had been away from the area for many years and just returned and did not know any except one that she drove by under the bridge but she did not know the name or try to find out. Service not as good as most Choice hotels. Would not stay here again.The 4 small pillows on the bed were thick and hard which caused a sore neck in the morning.
Pleasant front desk folk who are friendly and knowledgeable. Room was a king for one and then bed was comfortable. Lighting is only just adequate and reading hard once the external window light is gone. Coffee machine produces OK coffee with paper waxed cups. Small fridge and small microwave with glasses but no wine or drink glasses but an ice bucket. Room was on the ground floor and quiet. Breakfast is included in the price consisting of scrambled eggs, sausages, muffins, dry cereal and bread. Eggs were only so-so.
It was our first time to Sarnia and the Quality Inn was a good location for us. The staff are great, very friendly and helpful. They offer free breakfast which is not that bad. Good selection of muffins, toast, eggs, sausages and you can even make your own waffles. The lady that takes care of the breakfast in the restaurant is very helpful and a real delight! We even tried out their fitness room. While it is small it holds an elliptical machine and treadmill along with a bowflex machine but there were no instructions for that machine so we didn't use it. The room was clean and they provided us with a fridge, microwave and a small kuerig coffee machine. They offer free parking and free wifi. The only complaint we had was that they didn't clean our room our first day. Unfortunately they only provide a "do not disturb" sign and no "make up your room" sign. While we didn't leave until 12:30pm we didn't expect them to not clean the room at all! When we returned that evening we had to go request towels and such. While it is an older hotel it is clean and a good deal and the staff are wonderful! Would definitely recommend the Quality Inn for anyone coming to Sarnia/Point Edwards!
Late check in (after 11:30 p.m.) went without a hitch. desk staff was polite, friendly and accommodating. Room and bathroom were extremely clean. Lobby and restaurant also extremely clean. Great location and great value for the money. Would not hesitate to stay again.
