I found my room to be a very nice size and very attractive (see my photos below). I ate at a fine dining restaurant called Ma Table en Ville about a 20 minute walk away. The walk was mostly along the waterfront in the direction of downtown. The restaurant's fresh food was very good but it offered only a choice of 3 appetizers and 3 main courses, with a larger amount of dessert choices.
Return trip this Mercure hotel fronting the river Soane in Macon has been considerably improved with at last a lift from the carpark, shame about a very poor fixed menu for the 2017 season, rooms satisfactory for overnight stopover travelling south or north, staff seemed inattentive or uninterested but the location 430 miles from Calais is ideal for break from the motorway travel
I have requested a quiet, twin bed room on higher floor with a view to the lake. But was very displeased to be givien a room on the 1st floor, after driving 700 km we arrived after 7:00 pm. The receptionist said the hotel is full and they only have a room on the second floor facing part of the swimming pool. We went to check that out, it has only 1 bed and the window cannot be locked like our room in 111. We told the receptionist about the defected window and if someone can repair it. She said she knows that but cannot or she will not do anything ??????? Can you imagin this happened in an Accor hotel !!! We then went for dinner at the restaurant which according the trip advisor is such a good restaurant. Once again we were quite disappointed. First the restaurtant is like a canteen. We decided to sit outside. They have an event on the same evening in a function room, not sure why suddenly the service personnel are busy arraning tobuild up a cocktail receptoion at the other end of the terrace. Not sure how many people were there after their meeting to have a pre-dinner cocktail. Suddenly it was so loud and congested on the terrace, and we have to wait for ages before we got served. Food was eatable. I have a salad with fish and it consisted of tuna from the tinned, 2 big pieces of very salty smoked salmon without removing the grey meat and some small chunks of fried salmon. The croutons was big and dried and not with garlic as indicated in the menu. Salad sauce, can't say it is salad sauce. My husband ordered a steak, rare, It was so chewy and one has to spit out the meat after chewing. So this is our experence with the Hôtel Mercure Macon Bord de Saone. We stayed in different Mercury hotels which we were very satisfy. We would have stayed 1 more night if the hotel lives up to it's comments as indicated at the trip advisor, but this one does not earn the rating.
I booked an overnight stay at the Mercure in Macon as part of a roadtrip. After a long drive it was a welcome sight and did not disappoint, the hotel was well air conditioned, nicely decorated and the staff were lovely. I panicked when I saw an old pool at the front of the hotel full of shouting children and families - but luckily that was a different place, the pool at the Mercure was quiet, peaceful and very clean. After a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed I enjoyed a good selection at breakfast. Would happily return if in the area.
This hotel is quite easy for travellers to find, on the outskirts of Macon, and has a usefully large car park. However, our room smelt rather musty and the carpet was badly stained. As the hotel was not situated close to town or any restaurants, we were forced to eat in the hotel's restaurant and what a poor experience that was. It took a whole hour for the first course to arrive and another hour to get desserts. This is a travellers' hotel - not a gourmet restaurant. You really don't want to spend that amount of time waiting for your meal to arrive. It was the same at breakfast, with staff being slow to notice that food trays were empty and do anything about it. Check-out was also very slow, for no apparent reason. We shan't be staying there again.
The location is nice, close to the river, but a bit out of town. Parking is good and free. The staff were not very friendly or welcoming. Our "privilege room" had badly stained carpet and smelled of old smoke. Restaurant staff were very slow (20 minutes to even give us the menus). Some of the food was good - the lamb cocotte was hot, very tasty, and a generous serving - but some poor - the salmon was almost cold and the crème brulée was bland. At breakfast they had run out of almost everything (bacon, fruit, fruit salad, cheeses, glasses for fruit juice) and it took about 20 minutes for someone to start re-stocking. Staff were uninterested and unhelpful. Overall this was disappointingly poor and not worthy of the generally good Mercure brand.
Booked and paid in mid-February. Arrived after 9 hour drive to be greeted gruffly with ' name ' by receptionist. Handed a key for a room that we subsequently discovered was unmade. Were relocated to a lower standard room with a begrudgingly given apology. Not feeling welcome made it easy to decide not to avail ourselves of the other hotel facilities. This said, the room was fine and met expectations. Breakfast was also acceptable. Just goes to show how important first impressions are. Will not be returning in the future.
Recently renewed hotel. Rather non typical for a Mercure hotel. Rooms and restaurant arre first quality. Great and secure parking. Interesting package proposals (half pension) Good situation near Macon center
Hotel was on the edge of the town with not a lot around. Room was a good size and comfortable. We had a good view over the Saone which was good. Hotel was having work done but you would not have known. Friendly staff.
Selected and booked this hotel via Accor to spend a night during a roadtrip to south of Europe. Terrible disapointment : no one from Accor told us that the Hotel was undergoind major overhaul : steep stairs to reach the reception meant carrying all our lugages, uggly & gloomy reception, restaurant servicing was like shambles, and on top of the top : the room was full of mosquitos (hotel just next to the Saone river) because the room lady forgot to close the windows..... We were unable to sleep in the room, had to leave around midnight as the hotel was full. Worst hotel experience of ly life..... Very disapointing and questioning onwith respect to Accor / Mercure integrity and respect toward their clients !
