Meliti was Niriida who was as sweet as honey and frequented near the island of Malta. The Carthaginian-Roman ancient city of Melitis (ancient city), located in Malta (today Mdina and Rabat), was named after her, but it was also a Greco-Roman reference to the island itself, that is, Malta itself.
