Very few times will you have the opportunity to stay in a hotel property that's 500+ years old. The building and grounds are beautiful, the bar and restaurant are very good, and the staff is fantastic. The rooms are rudimentary in keeping with the colonial decor. You are essentially staying in a 500 year old structure, after all. But they are clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are late 80s/early 90s style luxury, but well maintained and spotless.

My stay at Hotel Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando was absolutely fantastic! The service was excellent, the staff was attentive, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure my comfort. The hotel itself is a stunning blend of historic and modern elements, with the architecture truly standing out. The colonial-style design adds so much character, and it's a privilege to stay in such a beautifully preserved, centuries-old building. The atmosphere is both elegant and welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Santo Domingo.

We were extremely disappointed with our stay at Kimpton Las Mercedes. The hotel is advertised as luxury, but the surrounding area felt unsafe and nothing like the photos, more like a rundown neighborhood. Our room was much smaller than described and located right across from the elevator, making it very noisy with no privacy. The view from both the room and pool area was of deteriorated buildings, not the city view shown online. Customer service was also not up to par. We checked out after one night even though we had planned to stay longer. This property is misleading and not worth the price.

Beautiful property antique looking but unfortunately has a very musty and humid smell it was very unpleasant and I was not able to rest during my stay do to the unpleasant smell. I made the front desk aware of the issue but nothing was done about it.

The worst experience

On my stay they never clean my room We order room service twice and they always forgot food and they try to charge me for items that never received. Food was terrible. I let manager now and they don’t care I don’t recommend this place
