Beach Front, Ocean Front Living, Affordable Price - Family Friendly
Pack your bags and treat yourself to total rest and relaxation at Casa Colibri (Humming Bird House) a lovely beach house situated at Costa Cumana one of Puerto Escondido's most exclusive communities.
This lovely architecturally designed home is literally on the golden sand beach which stretches for kilometers in either direction. Built for comfort and relaxation, Casa Colibri is beautifully decorated and landscaped, yet is family friendly. Call us today, its as simple as that!
Costa Cumana is an ecological beach resort just outside of Puerto Escondido.
Fronting directly on to the beach, Casa Colibri is the place to watch the waves, count the pelicans, enjoy the mantas that dance in the surf and 'ooh' and 'aah' at the dolphins and whales that make regular appearances. The beach is an active nesting area for turtles and if you are lucky you will get to see a 'nido' or turtle nursery as the baby turtle’s hatch and make their way to the sea.
Casa Colibri is a perfect rental for families with kids; girlfriends on 'retreat' or anyone who wants to escape the hustle & bustle of day-to-day life and soak up the sun, sleep in a hammock, sip margaritas in the pool or walk the beach at sunset. Our wonderful staff, Sergio, Flora and Carlos will take great care of you!
Humming Bird House is great for families. The outdoor living space and dinning area allow you to soak up the heat whilst staying in the shade (and keeping an eye on your kids)! The kitchen is fully equipped and opens to the palapa so if you are cooking you can hang out with your friends & family. Our beautiful palapa is the heart of the home providing indoor/outdoor living. With a constant light breeze from the ocean, and four overhead fans this is a delightful space. Lounge on the comfy bancos, hang out in the hammock swing, watch the waves and count the dolphins!
The house comes with a large pool facing the beach, with a lovely shallow section perfect to hang out with babies and young children
The master bedroom is light and airy and sophisticated featuring a King-sized bed, lounge area and gorgeous onyx lighting . With an en-suite bathroom, plenty of closet space and a lovely private patio- which is perfect for morning coffee - this space is bound to please. Wake to the morning sun and sleep to the sound of the ocean. Patio doors open directly on to the ocean at the front and and on to the pool to the right.
The guest bedroom features two queen sized beds, a large closet and a safe. With its own private patio, and a great view of the beach, this is a relaxing space for your family or friends. With both air-conditioning and an overhead fan it is wonderfully cool on the those hot Mexican nights. The guest bathroom is cool and calming featuring plenty of cotton towels, and all the amenities you would expect.
The media or TV room is a multi-purpose space. By day it is a work space or TV room. There is a flat screen TV, Sky satellite, internet, DVD player, and space for two computers. With double doors at both ends, during the day you can open it up and make it part of the outdoors. At night it converts to another bedroom comfortably sleeping two adults and one child. With air-conditioning and an overhead fan this is a cool comfortable space at night.
All bedrooms have Sealy pillow top mattresses and 100% cotton sheets. Whilst the bedrooms and media room have air conditioning all of the rooms have ceilings fans - so you never get too hot! With two bedrooms in the main house (1 with a King, 1 with 2 Queen’s), a media room that can comfortably sleep two and a single bed that can be placed in any room as required there's space to spread out!
The kitchen is clean, bright, comfortable and functional - the owner is a foodie and always makes sure to leave the pantry with some of the basics you'll need for your stay - olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar and some spices. Bottled water is provided, the fridge produces ice on demand, and there is a second fridge to hold all those important beverages you'll want to keep cold! Our housekeeper is a wonderful cook of local style food, she is available to cook at an extra cost, give us a call to find out more!
The pool deck provides both sun and shade. The pool is designed to be family friendly with a lovely shallow area for toddlers. The pool can be seen from everywhere in the palapa, so children can be in view but not underfoot. With sun loungers and hammocks and fabulous views of the ocean, this is where you'll spend much of your time soaking up the rays and enjoying a cold Corona.
The sunset bench is the perfect place to sit and sip aperos, snack on appies and watch the magnificent sunsets
Our staff is available during the day. Sergio takes care of guests and maintenance, Carlos takes care of the landscaping and pool, and Flora takes care of the house keeping, including your laundry, the dishes, and cleaning. They are all super sweet and helpful. There is a laundry room with a washer, dryer and iron - so no need to pack too much!
The team are available to ensure your stay is perfect offering first class concierge service. If you need something special, ask Sergio he can help arrange:
Massages out on the patios Manis and pedis Yoga in the sun Deep sea fishing Dolphin watching Lagoon kayaking tours Birdwatching at Manialtipec with a naturalist Paddle board or surfing lessons Cooking classes Market tours Taxis in to town
Whilst many people rarely leave the house, Casa Colibri is just 10 minutes from Zicatela beach and all that Puerto has to offer - surfing, deep sea fishing, bird watching, kayaking, and dolphin watching, sailing, and hiking.
Puerto is home to loads of good restaurants (everything from Japanese, Argentinean, Italian and of course Mexican) and oodles of fresh seafood. The local mercado is a lively authentic daily market with everything from food to flowers to artesania available; and the Adoquin and Zicatela offer up lots of shopping.
Whether you want to listen to the ocean waves at night, relax in the pool, entertain under the large palapa in the spacious living/dining room areas, enjoy the sun in the poolside lounge chairs, or watch the sunset over the ocean, Casa Colibri and owners Penny & Joe welcome you, your family and your friends to a vacation you won't forget!
Casa Colibri offers the perfect vacation mix – sunshine, sea, and sand in a luxurious, relaxing setting with all that Puerto has to offer just 10 minutes away. We invite you to come and discover this wonderful part of southern México. Welcome.
**During the winter months, often from November to the end of February the owners and their two small dogs, are in residence in the Casita Colibri on the back of the property. There is complete separation of the two spaces, and each has it's own pool. The owners are available and willing if asked to help guests plan activities and figure out how to get around, and to ensure all aspects of the house are in perfect working order, but are also happy to be completely ignored!
The villa is air-conditioned and features a kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms, and a patio, and there's space to spread out with 2 bedrooms. Guests can expect to find a Smart TV with a DVD player. Other standard amenities include a private pool, a washing machine, and a coffee maker. Limited housekeeping is available.

Ahhhhhhmazing house!!
This place is just epic! It’s better than you can even imagine. Practically private beach. Awesome pool. Amazing grounds. Comfy beds. Outdoor spaces.
We spent 5 nights there and hired Flora to cook. Yummy food served up with an ocean view every day. So good. 15 minute drive into town but we never wanted to leave the house.

Spectacular house in a spectacular location. Great daily maintenance. All facilities just fine, tho kitchen equipment could be updated a little. You don’t see or hear neighbours unless you want to. Kids love the beach although the surf a little much for swimming. Great holiday.

A Fabulous Stay
We just returned from a fantastic week at Casa Colibri. The house is wonderful and the beach is beyond beautiful. We loved every minute of our time there and can't wait to go back.
Penny is a great host. She responds quickly and is easy to communicate with. Flora took such good care of us! She's an excellent cook and a meticulous housekeeper. She made three meals a day for us for five days and they were all delicious. Every single one. If you book a massage - and you should - ask for Maria. She's terrific.
Casa Colibri is a very special place. I highly recommend it.

Pictures do not do this property justice
I have have stayed in properties all over the world, and none even come close to this amazing property!! For starters Penny does a remarkable job communicating with you before you arrive, and Mauricio, the manager, was also excellent and helpful.
The property is spotless, and there is staff there each day keeping it clean and tidy.
The beach, which spreads out miles in both directions, is perhaps one of the nicest beaches in the world. The sand is soft and the waters, unlike other parts of Puerto Escondido are safe for swimming and bogey boarding.
And while at Casa Colibri, spend the extra money and have Flora do the cooking. You will not be disappointed with the ceviche, tlayudas, Aqua frescos and moles.
We are looking forward to coming back to this amazing place. What a wonderful experience.

Always a good stay
The property is always consistent. This is our second stay. Already planning to return in April. I think that says it all. Whether you are single, a couple, a group of friends, or a family this property has it all in a very safe, friendly, and quiet environment or if you need action take a short drive in to town for all of the activities and restaurants you might want.

Incredible stay for small group or family
I spent a week at this beautiful home as a couples trip with my wife and two friends. Casa Colibri is situated in Costa Cumana, which was a quiet residential area that was very safe and comfortable. Proximity to restaurants and markets is a perfect distance; 10 minutes to La Punta, 15 to Zicatela and food markets.
The kitchen is outfitted nicely that we cooked most meals, and had a cooking service for one day which was excellent. The beach is sandy, and was great for swimming and boogie boarding which we did every morning and evening (the water is so clear!). Sunset every night became a big event for us so we planned our day around that.
The photos posted are completely accurate. Most of the home is open air, with air-conditioning in the bedrooms if the evenings are still hot. We found that the home has enough air movement that it was always comfortable (we had high 80’s every day for weather).
Casa Colibri made experiencing the Puerto Escondido area so easy, and I will be looking to come back.

Casa Colibri was everything you could want in a vacation house and more. The space was fantastic for relaxing, reading, and play! Amazing beach front house in a gorgeous location!
Our family visited Puerto Escondido this past week and had a great trip. Casa Colibri is the perfect spot to relax and unwind. We had the beach in front of the house to ourselves and swam in the ocean daily (until the waves started to get too big!). We took morning walks along the beach and spotted baby sea turtles hatching. It was incredible! We also loved swimming in the pool at the house. The house is open and spacious and was a great spot for us to play cards, cook, tell stories and relax. The house is about 15-20 minute away from town and restaurants so you should get a car or plan on taking taxis. The town of Puerto Escondido has multiple cool beaches, shops and plenty of good restaurants. This was a great trip for my husband and I and our 3 teenage kids.

Relax and Enjoy in peaceful scerinity
Having traveled to many locations along the Pacific coast in Mexico, I had expected this to be comparable the other great destinations we had visited, however the Puerto Escondido area is even better. It's a little undiscovered (except by the surfers) oasis that offers a perfect combination of tranquility, safety, sun, sand, warm ocean, good food and great people at your fingertips. Casa Colibri was in the perfect location for us. It's 20 Minutes from Puerto Escondito, the Super Che and Zicatela restaurants, yet totally isolated in a gated community providing a very safe environment. The Casa itself was perfect for our group of two couples. We spent endless hours sipping wine, mezcal and Margarita's in the pool, relaxing in the pool side chairs or hammocks. When tired of resting, go down to the beach that starts 25 ft. from the pool, is 400 ft. wide and runs 5-10 miles in each direction. Undisturbed sand as far as the eye can see! The Pacific waters were warm. There is surf so use a boogie board provided if you are unsure of yourself, but we did see kids playing in the water without much fear. Did I mention, other than a couple of beach dogs and 12 people, we never saw anyone else on the beach for the whole time there. It is not uncommon to see turtles nesting, dolphins swimming and the occasional whale go by. The house is great. The bedrooms are perfect with great views to the ocean and AC if needed, but most of your time will be spent pool side or in the open air palapa covered living area. Fresh water is provided and the refrigerator makes ice from filtered water. The kitchen is modest, with all of the utensils and cutlery needed, but if you plan on eating in hire the cook or better yet go explore the bevy of restaurants in Zicatela. Zicatela is a whole other vibe.
For us Puerto Escondido is the best. Perfect tranquility at Casa Colibri with great food and entertainment in Zicatela. Going back soon!

What an amazing property!!!!
Here are few details that made it so great for us.
1. This property is about a 15-minute drive south of PE. This space allows for very little disturbance and business. It was simply: us, the beach, the pool, and no other distractions.
2. The house is beautiful and the people who run it are great!
3. The house is located on a stunning loooooooooong stretch of beach. You can walk hours in each direction.
4. The internet worked way better than what we'd planned.
5. Communication with Penny (the owner) and Mauricio, the house manager, was always easy and prompt.
7. The house was well stocked. The kitchen had everything we needed.
Other things worth noting:
1. We were two families traveling together. We decided to trade rooms half way through our two weeks just so everyone felt even. The house has one amazing master bedroom and two other not so amazing rooms - still great -just not as awesome as the master.
2. There are beach dogs. We had daily friendly dog encounters (especially one super friendly dog that lives next door that we fell in love with). It is worth noting that on one of my walks south I had a not so friendly encounter with a four pack of dogs that chased me into the ocean. There was a resident that saw what was happening and came out to help. I was safe - all was well, but I decided to walk north for the rest of the trip. No other problems occurred.
3. The speakers didn't work. Bring some small blue tooth speakers to enhance your music experience if you'd like.
4. The staff are present for 5-6 hours a day. Not a lot of privacy from morning to afternoon. They are respectful - it's just that they are there - cleaning and doing there thing. I didn't expect that. Also, the last day we had a weird experience where a woman came in - no introduction. She just started going through the house taking notes of things. She stayed for hours. Went in each room. She was the house manager that day and was preparing for us to leave and the next guest to come. She didn't explain that though. That part was really weird and intrusive.
4. Knowing spanish really helps. Daily house staff (and rude woman above) only speak spanish. It was very helpful to speak the language (only a little, but it still helped).
Overall experience
We absolutely loved this place and the people associated with it. We are already planning a return trip in 2020. Thank you to Penny, Mauricio, Flora, and Jami. What a wonderful spot on the planet. Thank you for sharing it

5-star all the way!!
We just returned from a week stay at this beautiful home. I completely echo each of the previous reviews regarding location (unbeatable), amenities (top notch), owner (one of the best I have ever encountered) and staff (responsive & helpful). This was our second rental in Costa Cumana (we rented another home about 2 blocks away last January) and the differences in the 2 rentals were remarkable.
First, you literally walk from the living room, to the pool deck area, to the grass & then to the sand & into the ocean. It just doesn't get closer to the surf. Walking along the beach clearly takes on a new meaning here because you have the waves, sand & views largely to yourself. On a "busy" morning I passed 4 people over the course of 1 hour; most days I saw nobody. Total and complete bliss.
Next the house itself had such superior amenities to the house where we stayed in the preceding year. We used the A/C as needed (which wasn't much) and thoroughly enjoyed catching up on movies in the media room after dinner. The beds, sheets, towels & blankets were all clean and incredibly comfortable. Very fast internet in most of the public rooms (and if I really needed something even fast, I'd go to the media room). Kitchen was fully equipped with anything that we needed; from pots & pans to an abundance of spices and basics to lots of kitchen gadgets, we had everything we needed for meals.
Penny was a delight; very responsive and provided helpful information prior to arrival as well as when we were there. She followed up on & after arrival to be sure everything was in order. Mauricio (the manager) met us at the property, showed us around and was always available for questions. He even arranged for massages and local tours; he was basically like a concierge from a hotel. He spoke flawless English and always responded within minutes.
I honestly can't think of anything negative to mention; we really loved our time there and were quite depressed to leave. We can't wait to return!

Great Ocean Front Property
With the ocean at your back door it doesn’t get much better than this! The design of the property is well thought. At any given time throughout the day you have access to shade as well as sun. Mauricio was super attentive and responded to all of our requests promptly. The yard, pool, and house are well kept. The only real downside for us was the undertow and rip currents at the beach. However, the pool is great! We spent hours hanging out/in that pool. Casa Colibri is indeed a very special place and we will be back!

Total Relaxation
Just spent a week at Casa Colibri with my wife celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. Getting there from the US requires a stop in Mexico City, but that was painless, just makes trip a little longer. Once we arrived and heard the surf as we walked into the house, relaxation took over. The house is right on the beach with amazing views. When you walk the 75 or so feet down to the beach, you can walk for miles in either direction.
Most mornings started with a long walk on the beach, then were spent reading and catching up on work(internet works really good in media room and main living room). Afternoons were spent in the pool watching the surf, getting sun and drinking cocktails and Pacifico's. Since we were there at the end of the raining seasons, most evenings after dinner we got some pretty heavy rain which just added to the relaxation. But when we woke the next day, rain was always gone.
We have rented over 50 properties from Homeaway/VRBO, and while Casa Colibri is definitely not the fanciest, the views and location were up near the top. Kitchen was equipped with everything you might need, media room has Sky cable, and bed in master was super comfortable. The house is outside living with the exception of the two bedrooms and the media room(which can also be a bedroom). Those three rooms have AC.
Penny was a rock star to deal with from booking til we left. Always there to answer a text or email with any questions. Her house manager, Mauricio, is the gem of Puerto Escondido. Speaks perfect English and made sure we had everything we needed. Do be aware that unlike parts of Mexico we traveled to, almost nobody speaks English, including maid and maintenance/pool/gardener. I mean not even a little.
The town of Puerto is surfing and fishing town. We ate at some good restaurants for lunch, shopped at the Mercado and at super che. Super Che is like a super Walmart. Has everything you will need including a good wine and liquor selection.
Thanks again to Penny and Mauricio for making this such an awesome trip.

Beautiful Casa Calibri
Our family of 5 enjoyed this beautiful property for a week in March. The beach is endless and it was rare to see another person on our daily walks. We missed the turtles burying their eggs but saw the nests and the tracks leading to a from the water. Lots of fun playing in the waves, beautiful sunsets on the sunset bench, morning coffee of the patio, the open air living is wonderful, the kitchen well stocked and the rooms are spacious. The property manager and owner responded promptly to any questions or concerns and were very helpful with information about the area. The daily grounds keeper (Pablo) was very helpful and really made an effort to communicate and housekeeper/chef (Juanita) was a true treasure, she friendly, but discreet, and made us 2 amazing dinners (at a very reasonable cost) we were all so grateful to her. We also enjoyed our daily visits from the gentle and friendly Pitbull "Cuddles" who stopped by for visits and breakfast (there was dog food in the pantry). There was a fruit stand at the end of the driveway on the hwy with the most delicious pineapple, mango and papaya. The conveniences of Puerto Escondido and many amazing swimming and snorkeling beaches are about 30 minutes away. A car is a must. Take some bug spray or hang out in your air-conditioned bedroom for about 30 minutes at dusk when the mosquitoes arrive. A beautiful family vacation with some great memories.
