Staff was very helpful and hotel was nicely located a short distance from the very top. Breakfast buffet was very good, with all the typical foods from meats and cheeses to eggs and bacon (although undercooked). The most interesting feature of the buffet was the honeycomb - have never seen that before. We had a room with balcony and beautiful views of the hills and valleys below. A bit foggy late afternoon, but lovely in the early morning. Wish we had more time to explore the town but it was a brief stop on our tour.
First of all, I was positively impressed by the service. Reception and other members of staffs were outstanding, I haven't experience such a great attitude in my last travels, a great mixture of kindness and professional. The location is also super-central, basically few meters from the Governor's place, probably you can't find an hotel reachable by car so near to the city center. Last but not least, I had a superior room, and the view was astonishing. I have to admit that I was lucky to get such a wonderful weather. The only aspect that needs improvement is about the furniture/interiors. It's clean, but it's clear that has been conceived maybe in the 70s or 80s (old school, luxury for the time). TV is modern anyway and free WiFi.
The hotel has a friendly staff, good service, nice rooms and an excellent breakfast table, and it is situated with a breathtaking view of the lowlands below. A good starting point for walks in the upper parts of San Marino.
Because the weather was so foggy and awful, our impression of the hotel ignores the view, because we didn't see it. Car parking on arrival was easy, with a concierge chap to help. Check in was efficient, but the hotel itself is quite old fashioned. The rooms have hi-tech lighting controls, probably hugely expensive in their day, but that day has long gone. Our room had a balcony, which would have been lovely, without the fog. I imagine the hotel trades on its excellent location and view, but the property is about due for an upgrade. I'd probably choose to stay here again to see what we'd missed. On the Sunday evening we stayed, the restaurant wasn't open.
If you are interested in exploring the past glories of san marino then this is the place to stay. One can cover all points of interest within 2/3 hours at an easy pace. Eating joints are few in this area but it should suffice.
This is an "old school" hotel. It has all the glamor and beauty of a historical time lost. The wait staff and bell hop are first class and make you feel like a movie star of the 60s - but the hotel feels old and dated. Nothing wrong (and not many better options in the city) but still clean and nice. We paid for the upgraded room with balcony. Breakfast was decent but wish there were a few more options outside traditional continental fare. But the honeycomb was a nice addition. Parking is okay - just pull up and do the 16 euro a night valet.
This hotel is set into the mountain and has wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I couldn't work out how to use the safe so I asked for help from Reception and they sent up someone to show me immediately. I also discovered that the coverlet on the bed was torn. I reported it and it was replaced by the time I went to bed. The breakfast was reasonable with hot options but lacked the variety of breads and fruits I have had elsewhere. Watch out for the rolls as they are very hard! The restaurant meal I had one evening was, however, excellent. My room was at the back. There was a hairpin bend only a few metres from my window but I was luckier that several of my travel companions who looked out onto a brick wall. The room was clean but looked tired. There were dark scuff marks on the walls, where I presume luggage had rubbed against them and a pinkish stain on the basin surround in the bathroom. My other criticism is the plug socket. There was only one that was easily accessible and it was located in a place that made using my adaptor, with USB ports, difficult. Having said this, I know there are better rooms and given the views, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff and the quality of the Restaurant, I would use this hotel again.
As you may know San Marino’s old town is situated on a steep hill. Therefore, if you don’t want to walk uphill too much, you can park in the street right in front of the hotel or in the parking #7. They gave us the smallest room in the whole hotel because it was the only one left but it was still quite spacious for the price. The only drawback was the breakfast. You’d better go to a local coffee shop.
