I would be giving this place 5 stars. They were under renovation so that threw it down. Sadly our hot tub did not work and the management did wave my late check out for the lack of hot tub working properly. There were some dry wall issues in the room, dirty carpets and dirty furniture. Overall it was a beautiful room. Very spacious and absolutely quiet. Large beautiful bathroom, bed was very comfortable and very spacious. Linens were fantastic. Service was great!! Sadly no food options, no vending machines for water or drinks. Small choice of drinks behind check in desk.

Jacuzzi tub in every room. Did not like the limited parking with no elevator, made it extremely difficult to bring my belongings to my room with a dog to have on leash as well.

The Carlton - Best place to stay in Atascadero.

We have been staying at the Carlton for years and enjoy it every time. The new owners are doing a renovation on it which is a great thing as it needs some loving upgrades. The staff is always friendly, helpful and welcoming. There are new restaurants and stores opening up in Atascadero making it more chic for the central coast tourists.

We got to the hotel a little after midnight, exhausted after a six-hour drive with the kids. I had booked a room with two double beds, but the front desk gave us a key for a single king bed. The staff insisted I had booked a single bed, even after I showed them my receipt. They finally realized it was their mistake, but by then, they had already given our room away. We were told to go find another hotel. Luckily, a different staff member who was just about to leave for the night stepped in. He understood our situation and thankfully gave us two separate rooms to accommodate the kids. This was a complete 180 from the other guy, who seemed perfectly fine with just kicking us out and not helping at all. As we were dealing with our issue, another guest came down the elevator, furious. It turns out someone had just walked into his room while he was sleeping because the front desk had mistakenly given his room key to another guest. Needless to say, both the guy and the woman who walked in on him were disgusted with the incompetence of the staff. The hotel lobby and the first two floors looked nice and renovated, but the third floor, where our rooms were, was a different story—it was old and looked gross. I think this hotel has potential, but the management and staff seem to be a problem. I won't be staying there again.

Staff so very nice, but condition of property is horrible. Even with promise of renovation and evidence of construction, guests should stay away until management is done the work to make this a reasonable lodging option.

We were not told that they were in the process of renovations. While we would have stayed regardless, we walked into the room and it had bed, nightstands, a desk and a TV. The normal furniture we expected left a lot of open space and we had to request a second luggage stand to keep the 2nd suitcase off the floor. Also, not sure the new renovations match the character of the building. We will stay again because it is close to family and the best in town.

Bed was creaky! Pillows flattened with head weight. There was no bed skirt to hide the worn-looking box springs (king bed). There was a tear on the curtain, curtains did not fully come together to block lights at night and then sunlight in the early morning.
Green!
No bed skirt!
Tear in curtain.
