Grand Hotel Salerno4.0 out of 5.0

This hotel supposedly is near Salerno's center. Well it isn't. It is huge and quite noisy but the rooms are old, dusty and muldy, and they need many repairs. The sheets were disgusting and black stained and when we asked for clean ones the clenaing laday told us that it was becayse of the washing mashine. Maybe they should change that too. There weren't any towels in the room at first-we had to ask for that too! At least breakfast and dinner were ok.
I was there for 5 days during September 2017. The hotel is near to the see and the city center, but it is not enough. Room is big and has 2 bathrooms. It seems clean BUT I realized that they did not cleen the shower. As many days as I was there I used the small bottles with the shower gel that hotel offers, but I did not throw away empty bottles that were on the shelf in the shower and every day added one more. Νo one threw them away. When one empty small bottle felt down in the shower, I left it there, and when I returned no one had touched it even the room was cleaned. In the dinning room everyone is running here and there and NO ONE LΑUGHS, does not speak English, they all work like a robot. Food is INWARD, immobile and reminds bad hospital food. Breakfast is pure and no one has in mind to check if the coffee in the coffee machine is over. Usually the tablecloths at breakfast had not been cleansed from the crumbs left by the previous ones.Staff at reception is unwelcoming. IT IS NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL
What qualifies this as a 4 star hotel? Staff at reception is very unwelcoming and rude. Let's start off with actually walking into this place was a disaster. The revolving doors were only open enough for one person to fit through. We were traveling with children and the stroller would not fit through. We tried to squeeze through and got yelled At, WAIT WAIT.. Wait? For What? For the only door in the place that should be working? Mind you we waited 5 minutes for someone to come open the door wider for us. Got there early and needed to drop my luggage off, they have a do it yourself luggage drop off area that anyone can just walk in and take your things, I've never ever seen anything like this. The "bar" if you can even catch it open.. is mediocre at best. They have a beautiful view on the roof but no restaurant or bar, What a waste. Walking through the hallways chipped bright purple paint on the walls, marks on the walls, not maintained at all and it smelled. The room had a nice balcony with a view but that's about the only nice thing about it even though the railings had rust. Marks on the wall, the air conditioning vent was disgusting with dirt all around it and it barely kept the room cool. Dust on the tables, bathtub with mold in it. Everything was terrible, but the most disappointing was how rude people that work there are. Not welcoming at all, no help, even at breakfast they made a big deal and gave us dirty looks because we had kids and a stroller. Disgusting!
If this a 4 star hotel, I'm a monkey's uncle. Room was very odd with two bathrooms and an anteroom. Wasn't pristine and a bit tired. TV wasn't programmed, it was noisy even with windows closed. Stood at reception to check out and was basically ignored for a few minutes. Could not recommend at all.
Swimming pool; You have to buy their hair cap that costs 3 Euro. Entrance is "free". Food is ok but most is not self made and comes out of the supermarket. Wifi is only available at the entrance and the rooms above. Other rooms/second floor; signal is not strong enough. Rooms are old fashioned but very clean and a good airco. The carpet smells a little so open the window during the day.
Now here we have a hotel with a great location, about 2 km from the areas of where the action is in Salerno. Their breakfest buffé is at best subpar in comparison to proper 4* hotels in Europes big cities. Not a lot of vegetables and mostly bread, cereal and normal drinks. The rooms are nice, big and clean. Hard beds which might not be good for some but for me it works. They have an indoor pool which is not that useful since you wanna swim in an outdoor pool. Aside from that the hotel is ok. The location is their makn selling point.
not bad. Large hotel, on the beach. Great view from the window if you took a room with a view. Large rooms, spacious, daily good cleaning. the room requires a small repair. But, in general, not bad. Noise from the window of passing cars. no self-service laundry. there is nothing to make coffee in the morning in the room. there is no table on the balcony. on the top floor of the building there is a panorama where one could make wonderful photos. but it is always closed, only for weddings. Not for guests.
Where do I start with this ? It is supposed to be a 4 star hotel, I wonder how it obtained that rating ? I booked the stay through a booking site, the hotel advertised that they had free parking, which was one of the reasons I picked it as I had a rental car. There was no free parking, in fact the hotel didn't even have it's own car park ! Over the 3 nights we stayed this cost me over €100 extra. The reception staff couldn't care less, in fact they were really aggressive when I told them that the hotel was advertised with free parking. We got our 2 rooms (there were 4 of us). The rooms were clean, but very spartan. There was a very large bed, but only one straight backed very hard chair, it wasn't as if there wasn't room for two soft chairs.......they just hadn't bothered, so there was really nowhere to sit in the rooms. The view out of the rooms was an abusive graffiti daubed concrete mess. The hairdryer didn't work in one of the rooms. The hotel had WiFi, however I found that each and every time I used it I had to go through the full registration process, a real pain ! Breakfast was included and was a standard hotel buffet affair, we were told it was available between 7.00am and 10.00am, however if you turned up at 9.30am, there was either nothing left or it had been cleared away. Another of the reasons that I booked this hotel was the fabulous looking rooftop bar that overlooked the sea that was made much of on their website, I looked forward to having a nightcap in the balmy evenings.........It was chained up and deserted. When I asked at reception, I was told it was only opened for private functions. mmmm........ One final thing, The key cards for the room doors all had the number of the room and the name of the hotel on..........lose it, or accidentally leave it on a cafe table and anyone had direct access to your room........"without passing go". FABULOUS SECURITY !
All the staff were very helpful and polite. The rooms we were in on both our stays were very large and had a balcony you could sit out on and enjoy the views. The second room we were given actually had two bathrooms, which we found very useful. We would stay here again.
Seems old and past it. The rooms are basic. Man at reception wasn't overly friendly. Breakfast is really good with a lot of choice, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, breads, bacon and eggs, and the most amazing hot chocolate that is more like a cup of velvety melted chocolate (like at Angelina in Paris). The indoor pool looks really nice and clean. The rooms were clean and had air conditioning. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the train station which was amazing and it is also close to the beach and port for taking boats to Amalfi etc.
