We stayed at Papa Germano for two nights upon first getting to Italy and only having a short stay in Rome before heading to Amalfi. The hotel was an excellent value for the money. Surprisingly quiet, the rooms were recently updated and clean, and easy check-in/out. The proximity to Termini makes it perfect for the traveler wanting an easy walk to/from the train station and not seeking an expensive 4 star or desiring a cab ride.
Basic but clean room in great location. Short walk to central Roma Termini train and bus station, which is also where the airport express train leaves/arrives and a stop for all of the tourist hop on hop off busses. Walking distance to a lot of the main tourist attractions. The room had aircon and was reasonably spacious (we had a triple room), but didn't have a lift.
A basic but clean hostel, staff very helpful when giving advice on where to go/what to do. Hostel was quiet, secure and located well. Don't come here for a party, this is a relaxing hostel! Thanks Papa Germano!
Let's start off by praising the affordable price this lovely hotel has to offer! Given the good price I wasn't expecting much but this hotel blew my mind away! Absolutely lovely staff, beautiful clean rooms with good amenities and complimentary Wifi! I had read that a lot of hotels near Termini suffer from loud street noises at night, but I was positively surprised how quiet it was (quiet as far as being in a busy city goes, naturally there were noises). I will certainly recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family who want a budget safe stay in Rome! Only thing I would mention is that there is not an elevator in the hotel, so please take that into account when booking your stay!
I had a problem with Agoda where I booked this through, they repeatedly GUARANTEED that the city tax was included (I explicitly asked as some said it wasn't for other rooms for this hotel but this one said it was!) for my party of 4 when I prepaid and they assisted me with booking it only to arrive there and have an extra 72 euros to pay! The staff (Hannah) was especially patient and did not get all huffy or anything with my dilemma. I went ahead and paid it but am going to contest that charge w/my cc as I took screenshots of the info when I booked it for back up. Agoda was no help and said I was mistaken,,, yeah good thing I have the screen shots! I liked that there was a Bakery around the corner and an Espresso Bar a few doors down that same street. We got Cappuccinos & fresh pastries for about $1.75 per person each morning and some delish pizza/tomato pies from the Bakery! EXCELLENT location (a few blocks from the Terminal), thorough cleaning of room w/fresh white clean towels daily. Much better value than the places with "free" breakfast that are blah! I would rather get exactly what I like for a fraction of the price around the corner! The whole staff right down to the cleaning lady were A++ I took off one star for the spotty internet connection. Beds were comfy, hot water never ran out, a few nights noisy guests woke us up but that can happen anywhere. If we ever go back to Rome I would definitely stay there again.
The staff are great. The rooms are well kept. Good housekeeping. This hotel is very central close to the main station - Termini. The area has many restaurants and mini-markets. I would recommend it to singles or couples but not to families.
If you just want a place to sleep while you enjoy Rome this is it. Close to termini station and all kinds of restaurants. Very helpful and friendly staff. You share a washroom with others on your floor...2 other rooms...i never saw anyone else though! Thanks papa germano staff.
The lady and gentleman in the front are always warm . This hostel is quite busy always but they always have the reassuring smile on their face. Its proximity to Termini is the most convenient . I stayed in their 4 bedroom dorm which was very comfortable .I had never had a television in my earlier hostels in Italy but this was interesting and had a sink inside .Very comfortable beds Would highly recommend this place for a quick 2 or 3 night stay .
My girlfriend and I arrived here for the duration of the Christmas week planning to stay for the holidays. The reception area was not too bad and walking from termini didn't take that long either. We were greeted by a lady who was friendly enough and checked into our first room which was a double bed with shared bathroom. The price was cheaper compared to other hotels and even hostels which is always a bonus. Also our room had a sink, hairdryer, and multiple different blankets as extras which made for a comfortable stay. The only thing that was a problem was how easily the 2 twin beds that were side by side would slide apart. Also the shared bathrooms were very spacious in terms of the first shower, and the second one had a smaller shower but more toilet space including a bidet. When we checked in to our other room which was a 4 bed dorm, the wake up call we received because we were late for their checkout time sounded a little distressed but no worries. We easily transitioned seeing as the room was directly opposite of our double bed one! This room was interesting due to the lack of bunk beds, however the single beds had varying levels of comfort due to different mattresses. Unfortunately the 2 outside beds had uncomfortable pokey spring box ones, and the middle and wall side beds had much comfier foam ones. This led to me being stuck with the spring bed because my girlfriend took the last nice bed. The middle bed was occupied by what seemed to be a permanent resident who worked as a chef and had difficult to determine hours. Christmas Day he was gone at 6am and didn't return until the next day at 9am. He was also a little odd spending his time in his underwear most often chatting with his girlfriend on the phone and one night we actually caught him getting a little 'frisky' with himself when he thought we were asleep. We decided to book one more night in a double bed ensuite room the last morning of our dorm reservations. That was also a late checkout and by this time the lady at reception had given up trying to be pleasant and reluctantly gave us our room key. This bed was much sturdier in terms of bed separation, but there was only 1 power outlet placed in an inconvenient position. Also the ensuite bathroom was very cramped and small with the dreaded sewer smell coming out of the sink drain. We still checked out late on our final day here but it was only 30 minutes after the time. Luckily the lady at reception was off this day so we were checked out by the owner who seemed very cheery. He also allowed us to leave our bags at reception for the day while we visited the Vatican before departing for Naples. Overall my experience here was average and although we were constantly late with checkout, the maid could've cleaned our room while we packed without issue. This is not a great place for solo travellers you'd feel out of place here. Also can't say anything about the breakfast but it was close proximity to a laundromat if you needed to wash and that's also across the street from a very good Eritrean restaurant. But in short, you get what you pay for here!
Paid around 110 eur for a 3bed private room. The host is a very helpful bloke. There are food options to eat nearby. Remember to carry some cash along as they don't accept cards in most small shops around the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget.
