We had the most wonderful experience during our five days at the Hotel San Carlo! The rooms are quite spacious and the bathroom is superb. We had great water pressure even though we were located on the top floor. The hotel is located just 2 blocks away from the Spanish Steps and the metro. When you walk out of the hotel, you are in the heart of Rome! The real key to this lovely hotel is the personnel. They are pleasant and extremely helpful, from assisting with transportation, restaurant recommendations, and even locating a laundromat! The hotel has an elevator, although small, but it worked great every time. We will definitely be back!
This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. I first stayed there four years ago. After my last stay, I will stay there again. Even though I was travelling alone, I booked a deluxe double room. I think it is worth the space to get a good sized room. The front door staff were helpful and friendly. I was impressed that they showed me to the front door of the hotel when my taxi arrived for the airport. One small issue was the breakfast was on the modest size compared to what I was served in the other four hotels on my trip. The staff were very nice though. And of course, I had a nice large meal later that day for supper so it was no big issue for me. It's located on a narrow street with an excellent restaurant (Toto) facing it. I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go. There are many excellent restaurants nearby.
This hotel was in a fantastic location in Rome. We felt very safe and were able to get to many sites and shopping without issue. The rooms were not large and some bathrooms were quite cramped, but the attached outside patio for breakfast made you smile. The front desk personnel were helpful but not overly friendly.. maybe they were having a bad day.
We were very pleased with the San Carlo. We had to extend our trip one day and they were very kind with helping us do that here. A nice breakfast in a secluded upper location adds class. We had a covered terrace attached to our upper floor room that added a special touch, too, even though we hadn't asked for or expected it. They also arranged a very early morning ride to the airport which was much appreciated. Definitely great customer service. We'd recommend it without question. Close to Spanish Steps, Trevi, Pantheon, and an easy walk to Borghese, so a great location as well. Shopping surrounds this Hotel.
Hotel San Carlo is exceptionally located for site seeing around Rome! It’s located 4 min walk from the famous Spanish Steps! And also the Metro station located there, which will enable you to travel around the whole city. Also great if you arrive by train to Rome! Our visit was a long weekend, the hotel checkin was easy and very pleasant! You have to remember this is a 3 star hotel, so don’t go expecting lavish, super large hotel rooms! There is a tiny lift which can take you to all the floors. I was booked in a single, room number 33. The room is basic and as per everyone else who comments, the size of the bathroom is tiny! And in all honesty could do with updating! But you shouldn’t come to Rome to stay in your room!!! I did raise a couple of issues related to the bathroom and to be fare to the reception staff and maintenance team, were all fixed up and exceptional quick! Breakfast was on the roof Terrance, this was simple, yet very satisfying! Again the staff were always super helpful and welcoming! Definitely recommend staying here if you go Rome and using this as a base to see all the sites!
Upon check in we met a wonderful cheerful person with the name of Victoria. Efficient, smart and knows what she is doing. The next day I went to see Victoria as our aircondiorioner made such a loud noise we could not sleep and after flying in on the red eye really felt horrible. We went to Sorento on the fast train for the night while keeping the Hotel San Carlo for our bags. Victoria said she would pass along our issue and good chance our room would be moved while we were gone and to lock the luggage and could not apologize enough. Our return.... Clown number one is a older nasty middle aged women along with Clown #2. The women, said its fine and no new room and her nasty assistant stood there and laughed in my face when I asked why we were put into the same room. I explained I emailed the Hotel before arrival explaining I have health issues and cannot breath if AC is not cold and a quiet room. Again the older clown just stood there and laughed at me and said too bad. His assistant stood there to back hom up and shake her head said they new nothing a out this then said its fixed. I told them if the hotel is not full what is the issue to move rooms, yelled at them and went upstairs Knock on the door and he says look at room 73. Open the door one bed. I said I travel with my sister, room hot and one bed. He says theyll splot them later, I said no I need to rest now An hour later he shows up with keys to room 80, just likke Victoria said and the beds were split. It was ready to go. We moved to a room that AC now only went to 20 celcius, I go fown stairs tell rhis women and her clown assistant and she says theres no difference and too bad. At breakfast I was told there Sister and Brother and the Owner I new years ago had died. Good luck to these two Clowns treating people so horribly. At our stay another couple had a broken toilet and the Clowns regused to do anything. HORRIBLE PEOPLE THESE TWO.
Lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was basic but good. They do cappuccino at breakfast but you have to ask for it. It's not on display like the normal coffee. Hotel room was clean and lovely. Pillows and bed were comfy. The windows when closed, blocked the noise really well as my husband is a light sleeper. The safe had easy instructions. Bathroom could do with updating and the shower was a little hard to stop it from going hot to cold and vice versa but overall would recommend this place and we will definitely go back. Lovely little restaurants and shops all around. Walking distance to spanish steps, trevi fountain and the square. If you need a taxi, they were really close. You literally walk down the road and they're in the large square or reception can call one. There is a lift which is handy a small bar behind reception with very reasonably priced drinks. Water was €1 and Heineken was €3.
Hotel San Carlo was suggested by a friend of mine, who stays there frequently. Great location, comfortable large bed, clean room, everyone at the front desk was polite and helpful. Really lucked out staying there and will definitely do the same in the future!
We stayed for seven nights as a couple traveling to Rome with our 25 year old son for an August vacation. We lucked into staying at Hotel San Carlo based on Rick Steves’ guide recommendation after a nightmare housing situation at our booked location. Rosanna, Franco, and Dante helped us get settled the first night and then helped us move to two rooms the second night for the remainder of our week’s stay. Our rooms and bathrooms were clean and well equipped with A/C, a safe, and quiet. The daily breakfast included cafe Americano, hard boiled eggs, cheeses/ham, breads, croissants, coffee cake, fruits, and assorted juices. The location is near the Spanish Steps and shopping corridors within 20-30 minute walk to Piazza Navona and Campo de fornei. The hotel helped get taxis for us to the Vatican and the airport. The only downsides, which are very American concerns are the single beds in a single room (for our son) and the extra firm mattresses. The friendly services, good price, and location can’t be beat. Highly recommended. Thank You!
I stayed at the Hotel San Carlo for 2 nights in August, following an Adriatic cruise. The hotel is right in the center of Rome, just steps from the main shopping street in the city, and only a few blocks from the Spanish Steps. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and very helpful. The optional breakfast was good, with a nice assortment of pastries, cheese, meats, fruit and fresh juice (a typical Italian breakfast). The hotel helped us arrange a ride from the port of Civitavecchia, which was also very helpful. There is also a small elevator for anyone who cannot manage the stairs, or travelers with luggage that is large & heavy.
