Hotel Celio3.0 out of 5.0

This hotel may be the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The location is fine- near the Colosseum, but on a crummy street. The owner, who is the first person you will meet, is a complete grouch. He is more than just unfriendly- he makes you feel completely unwelcome. He started by charging us an extra 50 Euros because we had two adults- he thought it was just 2 kids, 1 adult. We didn’t need extra room, or an extra bed, nothing. He just sort of threw that out there. We balked and he dropped it to 45. The rooms are outdated, with broken flooring, and filthy bedding. The mattresses are concave and obviously very, very old. The “fitness room” is a 12x12 foot shed on the ROOF that requires permission to be accessed. Don’t bother asking for any information or assistance- he will rebuff all your interactions. We seriously could not believe how unpleasant he made this stay. The place is old, dirty, and run down. I would NEVER recommend this hotel.
We were a fmaily of 5 adults and an 8 month old baby.. we ran into an AirBnb issue and had no other choice but to find a hotel at the last min. Roberto met with my Husband and son-in law .. after they expalined our cituation he was able to work with us and get us 3 rooms to accommodate our family for our two remaining nights ..he also set up our transfers back to the Airport. Could not of been more appreciative of there kindness. they have a great little establishment and the location could not be better, many restaurants cafes' and a 24/7 markets across the street. and best of all the Collosseum is right at the end of the block. would deff. recommend for hospitality alone.
Perfect hotel in a perfect location (the Collosseum literally at the end of the street). Hotel lovely, room was great, fantastic facilities, spacious and spotlessly clean. A good selection for breakfast. Staff were friendly and very helpful. We would definitely book again!
The hotel is run by 2 brothers who were so friendly and helpful! Beautifully decorated, lovely roof top balcony, and excellent cappacinos with breakfast. 2 blocks easy walk to colosseum, with several restaurants, and a 24hr grocery a block away. One block to taxis and transportation. Definitely recommend! And a kids pool.
We had the pleasure to be in Rome on June 2nd this year, which is the celebration of the Festa della Repubblica, the Italian National Day and Republic Day. The Hotel Celio Roma, was the perfect location, away from the masses of people and the crush of parade crowds that surrounded the Colosseum, to watch the fighter jets fly over as they streamed the colors of the Italian flag. It was surreal! We spent Sunday afternoon, on the hotel's rooftop, which is a perfect place to look out over ancient Rome, surrounded by the beautiful potted palms and colorful bursts of flowers that adorn the multi level decks. It was an Oasis right in the middle of the chaos of the Republic Day celebrations.
This is our second visit to Hotel Celio and we are never disappointed. We were celebrating our anniversary and wanyed to stay at a place that was convenient to Rome attractions. Celio's has it all only 2 block from the Colosseium. It starts with the owners smiling faces being so helpful in placing taxi to our disposal and directions to great restaurants. Wonderful breakfast and room that looked like you stepped back in time with such charm.
What a gem of a hotel. Fabulous décor which makes this so much more enjoyable than the bland hotels usually found. Immaculately clean with plenty of towels provided & extra pillows. If you like a firm bed then this is the one for you. The location is perfect for the Colosseum & the street the hotel is on has several reasonably priced restaurants as do the neighbouring roads. A gelateria & convenience store are a few doors down on the opposite side of the road along with a pharmacy. Breakfast at the hotel is served in the basement by a delightful gent (sorry, didn’t get his name) & consisted of fresh juice, freshly made coffee, teas, fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants, bread, cheese, eggs, preserves, biscuits…..probably one of the best Continental breakfasts I’ve had. There is a charming roof terrace which is an absolute sun trap which would be a joy with a glass or two from the bar area in reception (excellent coffee is served here) & the staff were just lovely. This is an excellent base for seeing Rome as the Hop ON Hop Off bus stop is a few minutes’ walk away as is the Metro station. Despite being near a very busy thoroughfare the street was very quiet at night. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel.
Room was very small and decor was dated. Bathroom was tiny - literally a "water closet." Electrical outlets were difficult to locate and access (we eventually found one and had to crawl under table to access) making it very difficult to charge devices. I did not experience the "hospitality" that others received. Was forced to cancel first night of three-night stay due to travel delay and even though I gave more than 24 hours notice, hotel would not make slightest adjustment to the rate. Two positives: comfortable bed and very good location. Recommended by a friend who had stayed there many years before - ownership must have changed. Not a cheap hotel - expected much more for the price.
We chose the Celio due to its proximity to Colosseum and Roman Forum, Palatine hill etc. What we didn't realise was that the area the hotel is located in, is also a great base for a short stay in Rme; 3 decent restaurants within a few mins walk and the Colosseum Metro only 5 mins away. W were surprised at the opulance of this little hotel; beautiful mosaic corridors and lavishly decorated rooms (with v comfy beds!). Th roof terrace is a real bonus and contains a small gym and shower (for thos sunbathing in the summer months). The breakfast is adequate (continental), and the service was faultless. If its good enough for Helna Bonham Carter and Christopher Lee, its good enough for you!
We needed a hotel with a king sized bed and AC and a decent bathroom. I looked at so many hotel and finally i found the perfect hotel. I saw how previous reviews mentioned the owner as a great guy and the location of the hotel so we booked it. The first thing is the place is so much bigger on the inside. We saw the sigh Celio and found out it was one of the ancient hills in Rome and sure enough on the roof deck bcuz its on a hill you can see the colosuim. We checked in no problem ( we were early ) and we got the suite with the jetted bath tub. The first think I noticed about the room was the hieght of the ceiling. amazing and it was just as high in the large bathroom. the next thing was the tile floor and the condition of the furniture it looked so well kept. the king size bed was firm but not a rock. the windows were practically floor to ceiling and the room had inelegant feel to it. The location was amazing bcuz we could walk straight out to the colosuim and then get a bus to down town or where ever. the neighborhood had some great local restaurants as well. staying at the hotel celio was the best and the staff really cared for us. I liked the free breakfast and again Roberto the owner made the best suggestions and helped us figure out how to get to florence. I will be back in Rome and We will definitely stay at the Celio Hotel
