We wanted somewhere close to the castle as we had a family wedding and what a find the Horeshoe and Castle was .... the room was perfect in the private annexe with direct access from the car park ..... the room including the bathroom was clean and warm and had all the amenities we needed for a night away. The host was perfect with getting us early access to the room to change for the wedding. The breakfast was great hot and freshly cooked. We had a warm welcome and a comfortable stay and would recommend to anyone. Thanks for the hospitality
Probably the best fish and chips I've eaten for a very long time. Large battered piece and so tasty. Pub decor is great. Stuffed animals. Old books. Just so eclectic. Great find. Staff were lovely too.
We were fortunate enough to book Stuart to cater for my daughter’s wedding. He provided a cream tea for 104 people & I have to say it was amazing, there was nothing that wasn’t home made & excellent quality. Everyone commented on how good it was & I would definitely recommend him to anyone ... thank you so much Stuart you did us proud! x
For convenience when attending a wedding at Cooling Barn this pub hotel is ideal. We occupied 3 rooms as a large family, two of which were en suite, the one without was given keys to a bathroom just a short walk away down the corridor. Okay so having no en suite was not ideal but leaving the bathroom unlocked which was easier than having to try and open it throughout the night, especially after consuming vast amounts of alcohol at the wedding, which was no problem as no one else used it. Breakfast was lovely and the coffee was replenished without us having to ask. The only improvement to our rooms would have been a bottle of drinking water (even a glass bottle that can be reused). Other than that we were happy with our stay and would highly recommend.
Stayed here recently for a friend’s wedding at the Cooling Barn. Nice room and really comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious. Really friendly hosts. Great location for guests going to weddings at the Cooling Barn and exploring local and surrounding areas 👍
We booked the Horseshoe and Castle for just one night as we were attending a close friend's wedding at St James' Church. We quickly checked in at 1:40pm and left for the wedding. The room was ok, we had a twin room and it was quiet and peaceful at night and during the morning yet our toilet and bathroom was just down the corridor. We felt slightly bad as we had to keep getting up in the night/morning to use the bathroom and the door was a bit squeaky. In the morning and on the day of departure we had a lovely breakfast with tea and lots of orange juice. The service was great and I would say it was reasonably priced for a one night stay with breakfast. The beds were comfy and there were no complaints.
Lovely little country pub. Every time we have been its been quiet with just a couple of locals but that may just be bad timing on our part. Looks like they are improving garden with more benches - could be made really pretty with a bit more tidying. Bit of weeding, lick of paint and lots of flowers. The setting is lovely and food has always been good. Dog friendly and staff polite. Potential to make this a "really popular" local country pub We haven't stayed in rooms but were unable to unclick room ratings so please ignore these.
Fabulous stay. Nice pub, room no 1 was good, lovely hosts and chef was very accomodating. Great setting for exploring the penisular, rspb reserves nearby. Booked the day before just to get away for a night, will return
Myself and my partner arrived on the Friday to attend a family members wedding across the road in the nearby cooling castle barn venue , on arrival we received the warmest of welcomes it didn’t take long for us to fall in love with the horseshoe and castle . that’s were it started , we later went on to attend the wedding which is within walking distance , we had a great nite sleep in a comfy clean fresh made bed ,followed by an amazing breakfast we then decided to stay another night and see out the weekend before Making the trip back into London back to the hustle and bustle of city life that the horseshoe and castle allows you to forget. we dined very well indeed was verry hard not to foods amazing here this place is well and truly a little gem. warm cosy verry friendly and attentive staff nothing being to much trouble we would highly recommend this wonderful place excellent 10/10
We booked accommodation in the pub because of its close location to Cooling Castle Barn where we were attending a wedding. They kindly got a couple of rooms ready for us a bit early so we could change and the pub is within walking distance although there is no pavement and you need a torch for coming home late at night. The pub landlord and staff were very welcoming and friendly, my adult kids had lunch there are they were only coming to be evening reception, their meals were good and fairly priced. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included and there was a variety to suite everyone. In all a good stay and I would defiantly stay there again.
