I visited River Ranch to see if it was someplace I would like to go and spend a weekend. I was amazed at how much there is to do there! It's very accomodating friendly clean and amazingly inviting. I can't wait to go!!
We have been visiting Westgate for 15 years now, started when our girls were young, staying at River Ranch in out RV. With our kids grown my husband and I have continued to visit for weekend get aways. We are impressed with the additions of the Tee Pee, glamping and additional kid activities, we have always enjoyed the rodeo, shops and golf carts. As avid shooters, we have love the gun range, shooting for hours each trip. We are very unhappy with the price increase at the range. We have found the increase has priced us out of enjoying the range, most likely many others as the range is not as busy as we have seen it in the past. I understand there is overhead but $25 for 25 shots is not affordable for most families. Gun clubs charge $6-$8.00 for the same activity. It would be great if Westgate would run this range as a business promoting the sport, encouraging return visitors rather than a one time visit. I would encourage Westgate to be proactive rather than let the trap range go unused like the golf course. Research local gun clubs like Sarasotagunclub.com they would be happy to assist Westgate. On a side note I would have rather sent this somewhere less public but there wasn't an option for that on Westgate website.
River Ranch is always fun for two days- Friday and Saturday is a must in order to see the rodeo on Saturday evening. The phase 1 campground is beautiful. The delux suite we stayed in was just ok..... The bathrooms were dated and were dirty on the tile and the suite floor flooring needed to be replaced because it was buckling. I love animals, and if breaks my heart not to see sun protection for the animals locked up. Also I wish they would breed rabbits. I suggest they should be neutered or spayed them and then adopted out to families.
Lodge room was comfortable, $167 per night. Everything we did we paid for in addition to the cost of the room. Petting farm was the only free activity. Rodeo, petting farm, swamp buggy ride, and the horseback riding were fun. Good food at the restaurant. Beautiful grounds. Cute general store. Saloon and dancing after the rodeo looked fun but, crowded. Tee Pee village is very cool but, it's over $500 per night to stay during the "off" season. Hayride dinner was rained out, the girl at the front desk was rude when issuing our refund. The kid Corral was never open during our weekend stay. Adventure Land was closed Sunday and Monday of our 3 day stay. We were checking out the RV/tent sites for a future camping stay with friends but, will not be camping. Much improvement is needed to the sites, for example; gravel or cement pads, picnic tables, and shade trees are all desperately needed. The area is flat and entirely made up of grass, sparse trees. It was hard to even see where the sites were. On the plus side there was a large, new bath house in that area. Overall, the value we got for the money we paid was not equal.
We stay at the lodge suite and it was a nice surprise to find a comfortable room with all the kitchen appliance that you need for a long weekend. Also there is a seat down area in the screen patio for a nice breakfast time or game night. The difference on prices with the regular lodge was worth it for the nice accommodation.
For my birthday, my boyfriend planned a wonderful getaway at the WestGate River Ranch Resort. I was so excited when I found out where we were going. When we pulled in everything was beautiful and unreal. It felt like we pulled up to a movie scene. We absolutely love that there is an airport on the ranch so we can fly in next time. The swamp buggy tour is a blast, especially when you go through the water (I recommend sunscreen). If you are great with horses I recommend the 2-hour horse back ride. The rodeos are very exciting. They had trick riders, bull riders, and horse competitions. The rooms in the lodges are super adorable. However, the Grill was small, somewhat clean, and the service was horrible. Our food came out the same time as the appetizers. The food was plain and boring. The server was not attentive at all. The resort could provide more amenities for the guest staying at the resort. It was very open, you pay to stay at the resort but also have to pay for every single activity, meal, golf cart, etc. Should include a package for those staying there for vacation. Lastly, the pool was nothing exciting, standard and small.
It is a good place to come with children, lots of activities out doors although expensive when you have several children, because you have to pay for every one. Little to nothing to do when raining, no inside game rooms. You have to lock yourself with the children in the room. You have to pay daily to have Internet! Now a days every hotel offers free internet. Only has one restaurant, food is very bad so is the service. We were 2 parties together ,4 adults and 6 Children, we ate there, the first day it was bad, slow, waitress was confused brought the wrong dish to few of us, also didn't take one order, so we have to wait for it after everybody else had eaten. Gave a second tried, only 5 of us, and it was really bad, food was unbeatable. We planned to have our diners in the resort and lunch in the room, light sandwiches or so, but since the food was not good had to go to nearest store 22 miles away to buy food to cook in the room. Suggest you change your chef or cooks and offer good food.
My husband and I and my two children ages 9 and 13 just got back from the most incredible glamping weekend! The staff there is so friendly and helpful especially Brooke! We rented a golf cart for the weekend but it isn't needed, you can drive your car all around if you'd like. When we checked in we received the cutest s'more kit for the campfire! When we got to our tent with someone from their staff to make sure everything was up to par we walked into our tent and the kids were so amazed and so was I quite honestly. It is the coolest way to camp and everything was so clean! The staff showed us how to operate everything and where the restroom was, which was also very clean and then left us to get situated. There is so much to do here! Airboats, pontoons to rent, ziplines, archery, swamp buggies,a petting zoo, my husband and son went skeet shooting twice because they loved it so much and the guys were so nice! Saturday night was the rodeo. It was so fun to watch and the kids were able to chase calves and try to get ribbons off of them. I highly recommend this activity for the whole family!! Overall, everywhere we went everyone was so friendly and the facility's were so clean, and I am pretty picky about that. The staff checked on us frequently and was always there when we needed them. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something different with lots to do. Oh I forgot to mention, my kids didn't touch their electronics the entire weekend! We didn't want to leave! This is definitely a trip we will never forget. We are already planning our next trip with my extended family in December. I know they will love it!
It all started with rude reservation people who refused to let us know if we could check in early although we called at 6pm the night before. When arrived at the room (#163 at the lodge) it smelled like mold and the wifi didn't work. A maintenance person came by and told me that there was a flood in the room due to excess rain and that they had the smell tested and it was not toxic. NOT TOXIC!!! I had 2 children under 3 years old with me and was certainly not comfortable with them telling me not to worry about the smell of mold. Rooms were filled with old furnishings and bedding. The whole place needs major upgrading. Activities were really limited to Saturday and Saturday night. Given we had to check out by 10am we could only participate for a brief time. Seems to me when you have a check out time of 10am and can't check in before 4pm you have issues in managing room clean up. Bottom line is that without the ranch aspect to the trip this is nothing more than a cheap motel worth no more than $50 per night (they charged $263). Total rip off.
This place provide a fun-filled family adventure in the great outdoors! We loved taking our 14 and 11year olds here to "glamp," rode horses, trap shoot, fish, enjoy a rodeo and the adventure park). We will definitely be back to stay in the tepees.
