The prior reviews on this hotel are very mixed, but I booked last minute and was optimistic. Unfortunately, the bathroom drain didn't drain, so after a couple minutes in the shower, you were standing in several inches of water. The shower ceiling was moldy. This may have been a specific problem of Room 1. This room also at the front of the hotel, and the traffic noise is very loud due to the cobblestone streets. Every car sounds like a jet plane overhead. I think the interior rooms are probably much better. The staff was very nice and helpful, and the breakfast the attached cafe was very basic but fine. The location is great, right in the middle of some lovely historic architecture on one side and lots of restaurants and bars in the other direction. Very walkable. Parking included, but it's about 3 blocks away. The building is charming, location is great, but if you decide to give this one a go, be sure to get an interior room and check the condition of the bathroom before you accept the room.

I was warmly welcomed upon arrival. Smiles were abundant. I was shown around the property coffee and water available and beautiful areas to enjoy and relax My room was immaculate, the bathroom had all new and modern toilet sink, and shower. Along with an abundance of HOT water. Breakfast at the little restaurant next door was fresh and YUMMY. If I ever find myself in Ecuador again, Riobamba, I will stay at Hotel Montecarlo Riobamba again.

Nice hotel

The hotel itself is great, super nice staff, comfortable room and good shower. The neighborhood lacks desirable food options. If you walk 5-6 blocks toward the train station you find good options but if you walk in any other direction I didn't find much.

The public areas of this place are beautiful, and the location is good near places to eat and shop. The downside was my room, which was very depressing. The windows overlooked the hallway, it smelled like mildew and there was mildew all over the bathroom. When I was taking a shower sewer-smelling water backflowed in so I was standing in it. I walked past nicer looking rooms that no one was using as I was one of the few guests in the hotel, it's unfortunate they didn't offer to put me in a better room.
