We visited this hotel at the beginning of the high season. It is an old hotel, not renovated which isn't necessarily bad, because it has a sense of travelling back in time. The service is good, but does not stand for 5 stars criteria by all means. The pool area is great, the food exceptional, the rooms need some improvements(matresses, equipped mini bar).
We have just returned from a week's stay at the Amathus Beach Hotel in Rhodes and overall, we had a wonderful time. The hotel met the vast majority of our expectations, it was exceptionally clean, our room was more than ample with a lovely balcony and nice sunken living-room style seating area separate from where the beds were located. The view from our room and the upper levels where the restaurant and bar was located is definitely the most spectacular we have experienced on any holiday. Our only suggested change for the room would that it would have been nice to either have had a bigger shower unit or a bath. Aside from the location of the bar and restaurant on the top floors, we were exceptionally impressed by the hosts Evangelia, Maria, Lydia and Reta. The food was all fresh and flavoursome and the different themes each night were great for variety. Our only suggested changes are that, as expected, the Greek diet is very fish heavy, which was heaven for me, but for my partner who is allergic, the meat options were more limited on some evenings. Occassionally, the serving staff could have been more efficient, but I appreciate that it is very busy and nothing was so bad that it was detrimental to our overall experience. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful with an excellent selection of swimming pools, plus a quiet garden area with waterfall and seating at the back of the hotel. Again all were very clean and quiet and we never had a problem getting sun beds. We also visited the spa briefly which was chic and stylish, the only thing that let it down was the gents shower area which was very small and could have been in better condition. The selection of day trips recommended by the hotel via Manos travel were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our visits to Lindos and Symi on reception's recommendation. It is also ideally situated for visiting Rhodes town centre and the taxi service from the hotel was prompt and very affordable. All in all, we couldn't have been happier with our holiday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone. Thanks to all at the Amathus!
Amethyst hotel not a five star, good 4 star, lots of cosmetic work in the rooms, showers sealant etc Food excellent, variety was outstanding. Service, staff all excellent Clean towels nearly every day, sheets every two days Free beech towels. All inclusive, you have to give your room number and sign for every drink, no wristbands. Real alcohol - abused by many !! Poor if any entertainment . Turn left out if hotel for the sports bars and double deuce pub with live music - good variety. Rhodes - Lindos Bus £5.50 one way from bus station Orange bus no 2 Walk down from where bus stops - steep hill ! Takes 90-100 minutes with stops Taxi £65 one way Ixia to Rhodes £1.80 from amethyst hotel one way. Good service. Boat from Rhodes to Lindos - leaves at 9am £20 return trip Not a ferry - once per day Boat Trip to Symi well worth it 150 mins, but great leisurely trip Very colourful island. 3 hours in Symi, You will get very sunburnt. Stop if at St. George’s bay great for a swim / snorkels - provided free. £20 return Lindos great village, small street, very pretty. Rhodes night life is mainly in offundia street Long street of bars - boomerang bar, Sammy bar etc Got married out there with Lindos weddings - expensive with the document translation £70 each and pre work with the foreign Office and local registrar in England for the coni form plan early !! You will be asked to come into most bars and especially restaurants. Lindos - top of hill public toilets are not free !! - 50c charge, attendant has no change !!
I booked the Amathus Beach because I already new it was a good hotel as I used to live and work in Rhodes. This hotel ticked all of the requirements I was looking for to cater for my mother (who has dementia) my sister with partner and young child and my auntie and her husband. Due to my mother's condition, I booked a family suite with sea view as it has 2 bathrooms and an upstairs/downstairs separation, this enabled both my girlfriend and I to have privacy upstairs with a bathroom and my mother a room with a bathroom downstairs. We arrived around midnight and were checked in swiftly although they gave my sister and I the wrong rooms initially but this was sorted straight away. We were told that we could get food on the 11th floor which we did, we were greeted there warmly and given a drink too. I have given a 4 star rating because there are a couple of niggles in what was an overall good holiday. Positives of the hotel The majority (see development areas of review) of the staff are wonderful, they can't do enough for you and work very hard. After a couple of days they remember your room number and ensure that they deal with you with a smile on their face. I have to mention at breakfast and dinner, the service was faultless and I would like to thank Evangelica, Lydia and Stathis especially although there was another lady at the pool bar and spar with very very long hair but I can't remember her name. These 4 people are a credit to the hotel but all the people at breakfast, dinner and the bars were very good. The hotel is very nice, we spent the majority of the time at the main downstairs pool or the beach (it has a grass area if like me, you are not a big fan of sand!) and we could always find a place for 6 - 8 of us to get a sunbed each. The noise from the main road can be loud at times but it didn't bother us overall. The food is excellent, it has something for everyone, we had 2 picky eaters with us and they never struggled to find food. At breakfast and dinner, ordering drinks was always quick although the sugar free drink options could be improved. We hired a car for week through the hotel which again was very easy and well priced and I would recommend this to see the island. The spa facilities are very good, my girlfriend and I booked 2 massages each, along with this you get access to the private pool. The spa also has a gym with free weights as well as cardio equipment and you can use the indoor pool. The views from the hotel are fantastic, it has a full view of the bay, an upgrade to sea view is a must. The hotel is weel situated, its 12 euros to rhodes town by taxi and is only 10 mins walk down to a few local bars. Development area's As stated previously, the breakfast and dinner staff were fantastic, I wish I could say the same for lunchtime. Breakfast and dinner are served on the 10th floor, lunch is on the 11th floor. Be prepared to wait a while to be seated, the lady who seems to be incharge is slower than slow, she has an uncanny ability not to notice you queing at the sign stating "wait to be seated" the sign is also hidden behind several pillars so you can't be seen easily but even when she sees you she just walks on by! Once you are seated, it then takes an age to get noticed to order a drink, the staff are more interested in clearing tables than being attentive to guests. I would appreciate this if it was busy, but several times we took lunch at 2:45 to 3pm (3:30 lunch closes) to avoid the rush and twice i didn't recieve drinks. In our second week I just approached the bar and ordered them, the staff then offered to carry them over, the first time I let this happen and it took a further 15 minutes for them to reach the table! so I just refused the next time. When you did ask the staff to get drinks you could tell they were not enthusiastic about it, I was under the impression they finsh at 3:30 on the dot and do not want to be kept past this. This needs to be addressed as when it does get to the busy period it will be complaint central. My girlfried spoke with the lady who seated people and she just said sorry and walked off. The other area that I was unhappy about and left a bitter tasted was 2 of the front desk staff. For 13 days they were helpful and nice the last night before we were about to leave the following day I recieved a message in my room to contact reception. I duly did this and was informed that I was required to move rooms in the morning as the next arrival was due and the room needed cleaning. I explained that I had booked late check out back in January for the whole party (3 rooms) and had a mother with demetia, this was unacceptable and I was not moving, the conversation got a little heated and I asked to speak with the General Manager, I explained it wasn't my issue and I had paid for a sea view untill 6pm on the last day, the new arrival could have the moutain view for a few hours. I asked why I wasn't asked before the day I was leaving and told that the hotel only gets the arrival list the day before, this strikes me as strange because having worked in the industry on Rhodes and have friends that still do, the hotels usually know a week in advance, so the lady lied to me, she said there was nothing she could do so I asked what time the GM was in and she stated I would need to see her mamager first at 8am the following day. I arrived at 8:01 am and asked to see the manager and told it could be 8:30 before she turns up! I explained to another lady at the front desk my problem and reiterated that I wasn't very happy and that I would wait for (Vula i believe her name is) I waited for 15 minutes then approached the desk to see if the manager had arrived and was told that it was all sorted and see you at 6pm! In my opinion this converation should never have taken place and I was left disapointed by me having to sort a problem that should never have been. Verdict Overall, this is a very good hotel, in the main, the staff are excellent, the food is good and the views are amazing. I would reccomend this hotel and we were looked after. If the issue with lunch was sorted by moving the queing board to nearer the bar and replace the floor manager with a more dynamic individual then this would be a 5 rating.
We had a 10 day stay @ Amathus Beach hotel in a standard room which was nice, spotless and ok for us. Would like to thank all the friendly hardworking hostesses and hosts, waiters and waitresses to make our stay in this beautiful hotel worth to go back to. Thierry and Annick
Stayed here for 4 nights All inclusive in a sea view room with a lovely view and although a little dated the room was spotless and very comfortable. The food was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner where if you sat outside and watched the sunset it felt more like a restaurant you would choose to go to. The pool areas were great with comfy sun beds and a walk way under the road to the beach. The only thing that was a thumbs down was the drinks although the wine was nice and hubby said beer was too the cocktails and spirits weren’t. We have been AI many times and experienced non branded alcohol and this is the worst it didn’t taste of anything just very bland which was a shame as in every other aspect it’s a great place.
Back again from a 2 week stay at Amathus Beach Hotel, which is our home in the meantime after already a lot of vacations there. Since new management last year we noticed many, many changes in the negative sense which influence the 5 star rate of this wonderful hotel. Service and quality are not the same anymore. But, ... the staff is wonderful. Let's start at breakfast on the 10th floor. The buffet is very nice with a lot of food variety. Just perfect. We always stay in Emilia's corner where we are always well served. Also the hostesses are very, very nice and friendly. Congratulations to Dimitris who is taking his job very seriously. And of course to my God Sokratis, he is a very nice man. Let's go down to the 8th floor. Our room. The style is old, but we like it because it is cozy. The view on the balcony is just amazing. It gives you a happy feeling when opening your eyes in the morning. The room is also VERY clean and there is enough storage space. A lot of thanks to my dream team Ionna and Esmeralda. Always with a big smile and a nice word. They are wonderful. Now we go down to the ground floor, the reception area. Very nice place for a rest and a drink if you need. The reception team is always very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Audrey and of course all the others. Voula has a great team, congratulations and please, keep track of the good work, it makes Amathus special. Thank you my lovely ladies! Lets move to our Guest Relations Manager Filip Dedain. He definitely is the 5th star ***** of Amathus. Always ready to help and advise. His looks makes it all, always dressed very classy, we appreciate this very, very much. This is how it should be in a 5 star hotel. Thank you sweet Filip for the nice talks and laughs. We already miss you, but we will see you again, if not at Amathus, it will be in heaven, haha! Now we move to the poolbar. It was a little bit of a chaos there and we where disapointed in the staff, not always friendly and a little bit "leasy". Tsampika and Stamatis are a great value there, they definitly deserve an upgrade. Also a great thank to Taxiboy (I don't remember his name) who welcomed us every time with a big smile at the beach. Also thanks at the beach boy who was always helpfull to help us with a sunbed and a little table at the lovely beach of Amathus. And of course a great thanks to Dennis, the guard of the pool, a very, very lovely young man. Let's move to Varkarola, the restaurant at the pool. We don't know what happened there, but we noticed the changes. Thanks of course to Emi, Moxsoula, Dimitris and the lovely Arris. It's a pitty that the food is not anymore what it was before. The result of this is that we preferred to go outside for dinner to the lovely local Greek restaurants. Let's move to the Rodian bar on the 11th floor. Again, not the same anymore as before. The absence of Stamatis is a big loss. Also the drinks, please, we expect real brands in a 5 star hotel and not imitation brands. This is 3 stars profile. We always take the drank package because we liked it very much before, we will not do it anymore for that reason. A personal note to management, please keep the Amathus style as it was before. You have a lot of customers coming back several times a year, take care of them. It would be a pity to loose them. We absolutely consider to come back and we hope to see improvement. And last but not least, we had a great holiday in Amathus. You all have to see it in perspective. We can not change the world. Amathus remains magic for us. Thanks to all of you, lovely staff. And I forgot to mention, the location is simply perfect. Close to the airport, close to the old town, close to bars and restaurants and close to shops.
We had the standard room, which is really great. Do not expect by this 5 star hotel for too high services. But people really nice, the facilities are in good condition and the room have everything you need, including amazing view. Ask to seat outside when you eat, it worth the waiting if needed. The food can be a little bit better.
It was my first visit to Rhodes and to the Amathus Beach Hotel. And it was simply great! My warmest thanks to Maria, Lydia, Evangelia, Reta. And so many more people of the friendliest and most helpful staff ever. My room with frontal sea view was a real treat as I am a solo traveller. And the breakfast and dinner buffets were excellent. Thank you to everyone who made my stay such a wonderful experience.
We stayed in this hotel for 7 days. It’s a magnificent place with a beautiful view. The hotel is really clean and new. The workers in the hotel are very professional and to an amazing job. We had the all inclusive backache, therefore we ate 3 times a day and the food was always good and every day changed. Definitely would recommend and rate 10/10! Also the hotel had a private beach which was clean and had beach chairs.
