Rimondi Grand Resort & Spa5.0 out of 5.0

This hotel doesn't even come close to a 5 star hotel. I'll just make a list of things they advertise and are either not there or misrepresented. 1) They claim you are getting a suite. Instead you get something more resembling a motel room you find on the side of a highway. We had stains on the couches, water damage on the ceiling of the bathroom, broken lights on the night stands, loose floor boards, spiders, etc (see pictures) 2) There is no wifi in the rooms like they claim. There is hardly any wifi anywhere in the resort 3) There is no private beach. They drive you with a little bus to Corali hotel beach, which anyone can use 4) There is no show cooking on any day or any time. Just a very repetitive buffet. You also can only exchange your beach towels after 3 days to get new ones. Which is absurd since they get the dirtiest. The shoo in the hotel closes whenever the lady wants at random times. People had to wait over an hour for the bell boy to take their suitcases to their room. No screens on the windows in the room so you get a lot of bugs. No window or ventilation in bathroom. The walls are soaking wet when you're done showering.
Crete is a wonderful, but Rimondi is not a desirable base for sightseeing the best sites and features of the island. We experienced a total lack of responsiveness to problems we reported -- and this was challenging since our phone did not work during our entire stay. Our unit was a construction zone and we should not have been located there. These were not minor issues: flooding in the bathroom and kitchen, no lights in the steep staircase or outside the unit. In any other place we've visited, they would have corrected the problems or moved us to a suitable location.
Booked a week via Interval International (timeshare) and was surprised at how wonderful our week was. The hotel staff were attentive (not overly so) and were always very pleasant. We upgraded to the all inclusive option (15 euros each adult per day). The website and reviews makes no mention on the 3 pools!! The children's pool closed for a day whilst they installed a new slide (added bonus). The lower pool has a fabulous shaded area away from the pool that was ideal for us (we had a 3yrs old with us). The food was very good. lots of fresh food and a variety of choice every day. our accommodation was perfectly located with a balcony view. The maids cleaned the room every day and it exceeded our expectations. Can't say anything bad about our week.. would love to return in the future.
We stayed for last week at the Rimondi thanks to a "bonus week" from Interval International - we are owners with MVCI. A little bit of research prior to our visit confirmed that we would be asked to pay for the full-board meal plan and also that the resort was quite isolated - but not too far from a bus ride to Rethymno and beyond. We arrived quite late after the flight from Manchester but our pre-booked taxi (booked via the Rimondi website) was duly waiting for us and the transfer from Heraklion took a couple of minutes over 1 hour. We had to wait a while as there was only 1 receptionist on duty with 3 guests waiting to check-in. Not a major problem and we were surprised to learn that a small snack + bottled water would be available in our room. Seemed quite promising but ... we were very grateful for the help in taking our cases from reception to room 505 on the edge of the complex where we had to negotiate a rough, overgrown path to room 505 (see photo attached). A small (and unexpected) plunge pool looked to be potentially very inviting but initial impressions of room 505 were not great. In fact, had this review been written on day 1 it would have been given 3 stars at best. There were 2 fairly flimsy looking beds, beds not made-up and not a single hanger in the wardrobe. I/we have stayed in some pretty basic hotels during our travelling life but we've never encountered a totally hanger-free wardrobe! No problem - we were told to phone reception if we needed anything but .... no phone!! I reported the hanger situation the next morning and was politely told that this would be sorted during the day. I reported the hanger situation on day 2 and was politely told that this would be sorted during the day. By day 3 I simply couldn't be bothered and my shirts and trousers remained hanger-free for the rest of the week. My wife, of course, had travelled with the requisite number of hangers! Also on day 1, bright and early at 8.40 the housekeeping staff arrived to make up the beds/clean and a shiny new phone was also installed. By contrast, our bathroom, although small, looked as though it had recently been refurbished to a pretty high standard - if you didn't mind mopping the floor after every shower. In fairness, things did gradually improve during the week hence the 4 star review: the access path was paved, the vegetation cut back, the vegetation around the pool was cut back, 2 more substantial beds arrived around day 4 and a new bedside table also arrived - so why was the room not in a reasonable state for our arrival. Photos should also show the improvements in "landscaping" etc during the week. A major plus of the resort has to be the fabulous staff: everyone we met was unfailingly pleasant and helpful - ok: I could make an exception for the efficiency of front desk staff re hangers but the actual response to my requests was always friendly! It seems unfair to pick out individuals, as there will always be members of staff who you have little experience of but special thanks go to Nikolaos at the bar, Camelia - also at the bar/pool who I nicknamed "plastic police" due to her efforts to ensure that drinks around the pool were in plastic glasses, Xenia on Reception and the lady in the minimarket who was extremely helpful when were planning our bus trip to Rethymon: many apologies but she didn't wear a name badge so we assume she was not actually employed by the resort. We knew we would have to pay for the meal plan and €40 each per day did not seem unreasonable - especially as there were additional small snacks available throughout the day at the pool bar. Even better value was the €15 each per day we paid for the drinks plan which effectively meant that we were "all inclusive". Given that a cup of coffee at the bar was €5 and some cocktails were €12 this was quite acceptable. Meals were all served buffet style, despite the mention of "show cooking" in some of the information. Yes, it does get a bit boring after a while but we simply cannot agree with some other reviewers who have complained about the poor quality of the food on offer. The food was always hot (as appropriate) and there was plenty of variety throughout the week. Rather disappointing was the general lack of fresh fruit etc: available at breakfast were tinned pineapple and peaches, although slices of fresh orange were there as well. During our visit to the market at Rethymno we saw loads of fresh fruit of just about all kinds imaginable - so why not in the resort. A better choice of local fish would also have been good. We certainly didn't starve during the week! However, if the resort wants to live up to its quite grand appearance (on occasions) the quality of wine really needs to be addressed. White, rosé and red wine was available from dispensers at the back of the restaurant - we did not see any evidence of being able to choose from a more extensive wine selection. It all depends on personal choice of course, but to us the white was not good, the rosé was just about acceptable when it was chilled sufficiently but the red was warm enough to be used with tea - not very good really, and had the feel more of a 3* resort than 5*. Resort grounds and our room were kept clean and tidy - with the provisos previously mentioned. We didn't explore the grounds much beyond the main pool but there was plenty of space apparently available around the separate children's pool and even more space around the pool on the lower level. We used the spa once taking advantage of the 2 x 1 hour massages for €80: had we been staying longer we would most likely have taken up the option of 4 x 1 hour massages for €120. We had a late flight from Heraklion last Saturday and there was no appropriate late check-out available so we were able to shower and change in spa. This was a bit chaotic but we managed and my wife was eventually able to find a suitable socket to be able to use a hair dryer. Taxi back to the airport duly arrived at 7pm as arranged. Overall we had a very relaxing week. Wonderful staff at the Rimondi but management needs to be rather more aware of the quality on offer - things could easily have been better!
We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The atmosphere was really great: positive, friendly &!helpful staff and no noise. The food was good and they had nice items in the weekend. On Saturday there was a great show. The hotel is in a quiet area. It is a 5 minutes drive or a 20 minutes walk to the beach. The area is very saff.
Although this resort was clean, the rooms we had were very poorly decorated - looked like old ugly furniture (although the bed was comfortable), ugly drapes, and not one picture on any wall. There was an air conditioner in each room, but you couldn't leave it on for long as it blasted cold air right at you. We were told ahead of time that, although we stayed through an Interval International Exchange, this was an all inclusive resort and we would have to pay an addition 560 Euros for our meals for the week for two of us. The food was very mediocre, with an occasional tasty dish, and the restaurant often ran out of dishes towards the end of the allotted dinner times. After having a few meals out in Crete, we were made aware of how great Greek food is, and also how reasonably priced, even in the old port of Rethmyno, which is probably one of the more expensive places to eat in the city. We were definitely overcharged, and for food that was definitely not close in taste to all the rest of the meals we had during our 3 week stay in Greece which were wonderful. The staff tried to be helpful, but seemed overwhelmed, except for the lady who ran the spa, Argiro (?), who was wonderful and could not have been more helpful.
Although very nice hotel resort I've experienced much nicer rooms. The room was not clean, and had a sour smell, the furniture is old. The only thing that I appreciated was the spa. It was very nice!!
Don't go!!! it's a sham, you cannot get the drinks you have paid for, they look down their noses if you c complain, I realise the Greeks are in financial trouble but if they offer something and you pay for that service it should be given. The pool area is to small, the dining area is to small, it's too far away from any other amenities, we were taking 40min bus rides to get to a town were we could get a meal and drinks. I will not return.
Staying for two weeks at this hotel was a marvellous experience. Perfect location, beautiful and well designed rooms, kind staff and nice atmosphere for all the stay. We definitely recommend it. We will return for sure.
Peaceful place with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Our stay was perfect. Perfect location close to everything. Just 8 minutes from the city but far from the busy streets and the noise. Perfect room with a marvellus balcony and an amazing view!!! Responsible and effective staff. Courteous, friendly and knowledgeable about all the most popular places on the island of Crete.
