We stayed here for a couple of nights on our recent trip to Crete. On the whole, very good, but one or two things loose it a star. The first is the parking problem. The hotel is in a wonderful location in the old town, but the downside of that is that is is buried deep in the pedestrian area and you have to trundle your cases a couple of hundred yards to get to it, assuming you can find somewhere that close to park - not a certainty by any means. Having reached the hotel, there is no lift and no strong man to help you carry your cases to your room. Ours was on the second floor! The charming young girl on reception said it wasn't a problem and said they would be brought up. We went on up to our room, only to find a few minutes later that she had struggled up with our cases herself. We felt very embarrassed that she had done so and we felt that neither we nor she should have been put in that position. When we left we struggled down with our cases rather than risk a repeat, and again, we should not have had to do so. The room was spacious and nicely furnished but decorated in a somewhat dark style of decor and without a balcony we felt rather claustrophobic in it. The potential for sitting out in the hotel was limited. Go for a room with a balcony! Apart from those niggles, all good. The bed was comfy, the shower was excellent, once we figured out how it worked. Everything was spotless and all the staff were as charming as the receptionist. The breakfast buffet was good, if a little limited, but an excellent cooked breakfast was quickly prepared to order. The location is almost unbeatable for exploring the old town. I recommend To Pigadi for an excellent meal - the best meal we had all week.
We stayed in six different places through our trip in Greece, and this was definitely our favourite. Mariana at the front counter is so lovely, and is the true host. She was very helpful and the service was superb. They serve a wonderful and huge breakfast each morning in the beautiful garden. The location is perfect and close to everything. The room is comfortable and quiet. And oh, did I mention the shower?! I actually think it was the nicest shower we've ever had. So much pressure and numerous jets, it sounds funny but was kind of a highlight!! I wouldn't stay anywhere else in this this. Enjoy!
Fantastic hotel particularly worth to mention their mentality on satisfying customer needs. Young staff determined to serve you the best possible way. We are very pleased to stay in this hotel . The rooms are spacious and very well decorated. Plenty of day lights making the very bright. Extremely clean and very well organized. The garden itself is worth to visit and enjoy your drinks or breakfast. Another important point to Note is it's proximity to town center. Very close but not in the middle of crowds or noises. Perfectly balanced!
This small Boutique hotel is situated well in the middle of the Old Town situated in a quiet pedestrianised lane and close to all of the sites and the wonderful Venetian Harbour. This is my second visit to this lovely hotel. This Venetian era hotel has eight elegant rooms and all are fitted out in very good style. Each room has exposed stone walls and timber ceilings and are wrapped around a peaceful courtyard and also comes with a large fish pond with flowing water. The hotel has been renovated to a very high standard. Each morning breakfast is served beneath the vine covered pergola. It's a relaxing and peaceful way to start each day. I was fortunate to score the junior suite that was situated on the third floor and with its own external stair entrance. It was a large room and with its stone walls and timber ceiling. A four poster bed in the bedroom and with a small living room. The large modern bathroom even had a Jacuzzi, and with its private terrace and seating and views of the surrounding town. It all made for a wonderful, comfortable and relaxing stay. All of the staff were professional, friendly and all eager to please. A good choice for breakfast each morning and service and with a personal style and eggs cooked to order. This is one of the best hotels I have stayed at in my 7 weeks of travel in Greece. I will definetly be returning. It also represents good value for money. Highly recommended. PETEY 95
Hotel is quaint and charming, but getting to this hotel was a challenge. The access is all cobblestone pathways so luggage has to be hauled for quite a distance. There is no assistance or anyway around this. The parking lot the hotel recommends in their directions is no longer available. Finding free parking can be difficult. We had one good day of weather and then 2 days of heavy rain. Breakfast is in the outside courtyard that is only partially covered. There is no area within the hotel that can accomodate small gatherings. The staff was nice and tried to be helpful. Beds were not very comfortable. The location in the old city is convenient for walking and exploring the area. Overall for us, the negatives outweighed the positives.
This lovely boutique hotel in the heart of the old town is wonderful - every room has its own character. It was so blissfully peaceful and quiet at night. Plenty of passers by would look in to the courtyard as they walked past, as it is so pretty and they wanted to take photos (there is also a lovely fish pond with lots of gloriously coloured fish). We requested an interconnecting door between our rooms and we got one. The staff were so friendly & helpful. One of my friends doesn't eat eggs, and two of us don't really eat meat - the staff did their best to cater for us and provided tuna salad plus omelettes / scrambled eggs on request. There was lovely greek yoghurt, oats, fruits, pastries available on tap every morning. We had a kettle in our room which was a big plus, being avid tea-drinkers! The old town is exquisite, wonderful for walking around, the beach isn't too far away and there are lots of nearby shops to find bargains in. It was lovely to be in a pedestrianised part of the town - the lack of cars was most welcome. We can easily see why this town is known as the prettiest in Crete. We didn't want to leave and cannot wait to go back! One thing to note - it is at least an hour's drive to Heraklion airport and the transfer from the airport to the hotel cost €90 between three of us, which was the going rate (Sept '17)
Very charming and cosy boutique hotel in lovely Rethymnon. The staff is friendly and helpfull and they speak quite good English. All the rooms look different and are unique with lovely details. The bathroom is very comfy and it had the best shower we've ever had during one of our vacations. The breakfast is great and every morning they serve different small bites (toast with feta, toast with moked salmon, etc). Also fresh orange juice every day, you can chose from all different kinds of eggs. And many more to chose from. You ask, they serve!
We stayed at Casa Vitae for our honeymoon in Rethymno. Our general experience was great. The hotel is located on a quiet alley of the old town. The staff are really helpful, trying to make the stay pleasant and providing tips about the city and maps. We also got free beach towels every single day, which was really helpful. The room itself was very clean, nicely decorated and had a romantic feeling. We also got treated to sweets and wine on the occasion of our honeymoon. The courtyard is beautiful and we loved having our breakfast next to the fish pond. What I thought could have been better was the feeling that our room in particular did not have much privacy, as it was facing the courtyard and people were naturally coming and going during the day. One could close the curtains but then the room would get no natural light. The bathroom was also always wet and there was no space to hung wet clothes and swimming suits. I would definitely return to Casa Vitae but I would choose a different room.
Located in the old town with it's atmosphere and small shops. The hotel is a converted large Ottoman house with all it's courtyard, water feature and inward facing windows (so the women couldn't be seen from the street). The room we had was very spacious, bright and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and served by the staff to your table. Just around the corner is a small hole in the wall bakery selling freshly bake goods including Spinach Pie and semolina custard in filo pie. A must for a lunch and take it to the nearby park to enjoy. A short walk through the narrow street maze will lead you to the waterfront but go on through to the restaurants across from the bay as the street closes at 7pm and the street stalls set up.
My couple and I spent 2 nights in Casa Vitae and had a wonderful experience. The room had enough space and all the amenities we needed. Additionally, they took care of the special dietary requirements of my couple with exquisite attention. We really recommend it.
