Hotel Axos, is a family run hotel, even Nana and Grandad work the front desk and by this you are made to feel like family. The room we had was spacious, with an amazing balcony. We had the one of the First Floor rooms, with kitchenette, fridge, microwave and even coffee machine in one room and your bed in the other. The rooms were well kept and cleaned regularly. The pool downstairs was in a good location getting the sun most of the day. The bar attached had friendly and helpful staff. I cannot stress enough the hospitality you are given here. It was a pleasure to stay in a lovely hotel.
The hotel is very noisy, some of the staff members are not friendly. We were woken up every day - between 6:30-8:00 by other hotel guests making loud noises in the hotel. Also in the middle of the night, where people where making a lot of noise. Poor breakfast. Our room was also very small.. The location is great, but I suggest you pay a little more to stay in some of the other hotels around. One day the cleaning lady forgot to close our door to the terrace, so people could actually just go in our room. I think it's okay for family's, but not for couples.
We have just returned from a beautiful 8 day stay at the Axos. I have kept returning here as it is a warn very child friendly, and professionally run hotel. I have stayed in high end all inclusive hotels in Crete before as I have family there. But to be honest they haven't come close, to providing the, the personal touch and welcome. My children loved the family, the food and the pool. It is a very safe place to have children and most of the guests out there go back year after year. Everyone is lovely and the hotel runs like clockwork. Breakfast is great and I even got ere a nd they were very quick to help me access medical treatment. Town is a short bus ride away and you have by tickets from the local supermarket, there is mini golf, excursions and a great taverna, just opposite as is the beach. Maria's golds shop is well worth a visit too, as you get a discount .Really everything you could need is either on site or close by. Housekeeping is also very good. I don't think anyone could be disappointed by a stay here.
Platanes is not really a place to live it up but we stayed across te road in another hotel and we had such good times at the Axos bar. The staff is lovely they provide good service and most importantly amazing cocktails for a good price. The music is fun for all ages (we varie from 19 to 60 years of age) The atmosphere is very nice , also I highly recommend going to one of the live music nights or a theme party. Basically; If you don't have a good time at Axos bar you're just not fun.
Stayed as a family of four. Hotel was nice, clean enough, staff friendly enough. It was all just ok. We were hoping that with it being a fairly small hotel, there would have been something a little more 'personal' about it. Glad we had nice weather and the chance to hop On and off the buses to see some other areas.
Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable 10 night stay. We were in room 216 which was adequate. Maid service every day except Sunday. The location of the hotel is on the main strip of Platanes which was perfect for us. Bus station was close by and the beach a 5 minute walk away. Plenty of restaurants to choose from close by. Reception staff were always helpful with excursions and any other queiries we had. Free WIFI available however didn't work in the rooms only worked in the reception/bar/pool area which was fine. We loved the hotel bar, was lively with themed nights and plenty of cocktails to choose from at a reasonable price. Good vibe around the pool area which is quite small - prepare to get splashed when sat on your sunbed. I would definitly reccomend friends and family to stay here if visiting Rethymnon and hopefully one day we will be back!
The hotel is really nice with big rooms, clean, great breakfast and a nice pool area. Public transportation is close. The staff is very helpful and professional. Great bar at nighttime, try at least one drink there, you won`t regret. It is close to he main road, but you will find the hotel peaceful and relaxing. The hotel is not expensive, and you get a lot for your money.
We had a 1 bed apt on the 2nd floor with balcony and street view (no problem, good for people-watching). Everywhere was nice and clean, air con was great but a bit noisy in the bedroom. The bed was firmer than the orthopaedic mattress we're used to at home and we found the sheets weren't really big enough. The only thing missing from the kitchen was a corkscrew! Parking available either directly outside the hotel (owners put place holding barriers to discourage people not resident at the hotel parking) or round the back; we always found a space. Pool area pretty and well maintained although we couldn't get loungers on the 3 occasions we tried to relax there. There's a Lidl accessible from the back of the hotel under the expressway.
The hotel is just outside the town of Rethymnon and just a short taxi ride away. The area itself is lovely very relaxing and quiet but with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. The hotel itself is lovely, a small quiet pool right next to the hotel bar. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are very spacious with a separate bedroom and kitchenette. The rooms are very clean and there is a maid service everyday except on Sundays. We had a balcony overlooking the pool which was a good place to chill at the end of an evening. The beach is just a 5 minute walk away. I would definitely go back
"It was twenty years ago today" as the Beatles song says and our return to the Axos was as memorable as it had been all those years ago. We were welcomed back into the Axos "family"as if we had never been away .Mama,Papa, Maria, Anti, Manos, Yannis and Sophia made us feel so at home that we did not want to leave. We went self catering and took a studio which was quite adequate for us though the tiny terrace was not very private. We will choose our room for our return next year. Linen and towels changed regularly and the apartment cleaned daily. The very clean pool was a perfect temperature just right for cooling off after sunbathing on the sunbeds of which there were many so we didn't have to be up at six to put towels on. The comfortable bar area offered snacks right throughout the day, very handy for late arrivals, and "Happy Hour" from seven till nine meant that Pina Coladas well mixed by Siffis (sorry about the spelling) and delivered by Yana were perfect after a long day lying down. Platanias has everything you need with a good supermarket and plenty of places to eat. We are going back next year and would recommend this hotel to couples and families looking for a relaxing stay in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Thanks to all at the Axos. Sam and Anne
