Gorgeous house, terrible location
Beautiful home, polite host, yet still a horrible experience because of the location and unsafe architectural elements.
Even with GPS, it is incredibly difficult to find the exits off the main Cretan highway to get to all of the secondary roads leading to this house. We had to backtrack several times and were overall very frustrated by the time we found the parking area. The unsecured parking lot for this house is a good 5 minute uphill walk past several loud growling and barking dogs; just terrible.
Once you get to the house, you have to be careful of the staircase leading up to the second floor. I stubbed my toe horribly and my daughter slipped off the landing at the bottom of the stairs and sprained her ankle, all within 5 minutes of our arrival. Also, there are no handrails making it quite scary coming down the stairs.
Regarding the pool, I paid an extra 150 euros to have the pool heated. It never did warm up, so we didn’t want to use the pool at all. What a waste.
I would not recommend this house for families with small children or older adults who simply don’t want to deal with the frustration of getting lost in a strange place. It’s a shame, really, because the host seemed nice and the home is new and clean. Still though, I would never consider staying there again…
One more thing about ThinkVilla, they did not suggest any activities for my family like I expected them to. I received one email about an expensive dining experience and some general info about Crete
