Casa Gangotena

It is rather odd that this boutique hotel owes its existence to the fire which destroyed the former single home. The location is ideal: adjacent to the Church and convent of San Francisco and pre Colombian museo Casa de Alabado, a few minuets away form the glorious Compañia de Jesus, and in the vicinity of the Grand Plaza , the Cathedral and also Santo Domingo. I only had a drink and a coffee as I already had accommodation but was attracted by its palatial apperance and would love to stay theer on my next trip.

I stayed at Casa Gangotena for two separate nights either side of a Galapagos Cruise earlier this month. The property is exceptional. The rooms are very spacious, spotless, and well decorated. The beds are huge and extremely comfortable. The old colonial style building is beautiful and the staff are superb. Unfortunately I arrived late on my first night and didn't get a chance to eat in the restaurant, however I did order room service and the food was good (not perfect). The breakfast was very good with lots of variety and I must say the coffee is some of the best I've tasted. If you are up early for a flight the hotel will arrange for you to have a packed breakfast which I thought was a nice touch. The staff are very attentive and friendly. If you are visiting Quito and like a bit of culture, stay in the old town. This property is the best around. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I would certainly stay here again.

Superb hotel right in the centre of Quito - a real oasis of comfort and calm. The location is perfect, to be able to walk around the area and soak up the fascinating hustle and bustle of central Quito. The hotel itself has excellent facilities, rooms, restaurant and bar, and really is the best in Quito.

This individual hotel is very welcoming, has wonderful public space, a very good bar and excellent restaurant. We ate in every night. They had great omelettes for breakfast, the staff were helpful and all spoke English. Our bedroom was comfortable with a good bathroom

Beautifully restored hotel, large rooms, marvelous sheets, big marble bathroom. Sweet bar, and a very good restaurant. Lobby is like an atrium, where they serve a complimentary HighTea every afternoon. The staff are friendly and professsional. Right in the center of old Quito. Unfortunately, at present the plaza is being excavated for the new underground subway, but it should be restored in six months.

Heart of Old Quito. Sumptuous public spaces (tons of flowers everywhere) and large, very comfortable rooms. Incredible restaurant both for breakfast (full buffet with champagne for mimosas and an egg menu) and table service dinner. Exemplary service by the front desk, doormen, restaurant waitstaff, concierges and housekeeping. For example, I arrived very late (as do many flights from the US) and the staff brought up sandwiches and juice without asking as a midnight snack. Definitely take in the 3rd floor terrace with 270 degree views. Great for an afternoon cocktail.

This wonderfully restored mansion overlooks Plaza San Francisco in Quito's old town. Our room was elegant and comfortable, the bathroom large and well supplied, the staff welcoming and helpful. Ask to see the view from the roof.

A hotel that lives up to the best hotels in the world. I have a room very big and full of light! The breakfast buffet is delicious, and the service spectacular. Is surrounded by churches with pre-Columbian collections. And many museums.

We spent 3 nights at this gorgeous gem. Our room had a lovely balcony and overlooked the statue of the virgin. You can walk many places from here and the staff is extremely attentive about arranging day trips or tours. This might sound like a small thing, but being able to flush paper instead of putting it in a trash can was really wonderful. We also had a large soaking tub, which was wonderful after walking trips. We felt pampered and loved the fresh, local fruit they replenished every day. They have a glass-roofed tea room that is gorgeous and filled with fresh flowers. The proximity to landmarks is fabulous! We would definitely stay here again. The architecture that has been preserved from the original mansion is breathtaking.

...Wish they had given us option not to stay as metro station under noisy construction opposite or another room.Check first or get room facing away from work. Quito live like a local tour a good option.Beautiful rooms in hotel and restaurant good quality .Service impeccable.Unfortunately they had two separate beds and didn't think about us as a couple so best ask ahead.
