To add to an earlier review. The resort itself is beautiful, the staff is fantastic. The food is great at the restaurants a the Buffet offers lots of variety. The rooms are recently renovated large and airy. My only hesitation would be to come to this resort around school holidays. :-)

This will have been our 4th visit to this resort in 3 years. We decided to bring our two teenage girls with us to introduce them to this special resort. We came over the family day/ presidents day holiday - what a mistake. I realize this is a family resort but, over this period it was taken over by small children and their parents who pay no attention to them. There are 3 pools. The one closest to the beach has a swim up BAR. Does this seem like the appropriate spot for kids to be swimming? There are two other pools where there is a kids club etc. you would think the hotel /parents would keep the small children away from the BAR. Apparently, you can pre book your reservations at the restaurants- I suggest you do this or you will be eating at 9pm or at one of the two least popular ( for good reason) restaurants. You need to email prearrivalconciergern@velasresorts.com. Before the onslaught of screaming children we were subjected to a bunch of drunk pp attending a conference. Apparently, this resort hosts a ton of conferences between January - April. Be aware. The rooms have all been renovated and are quite nice. The food was ok, not as good as we have had in the past. The staff is incredible- this was always a reason to come back and told many of our friends about this place but, sadly I’m not sure we will return. I understand that we were all kids at some point but, when my kids were little I respected the adults around us and adults space around them.

We fell in love! This is our first time with the Grand Velas brand. We normally stay with the impressions side of secrets but I’m glad we decided to try this resort. It has literally ruined it for us and we can’t see ourselves going to another brand. The service, food and cleanliness is at a meticulous level. We went for 6 days 4 nights. We never had a bad drink or bad food. Everything was absolutely fabulous. Kenia and Patricia on the adults side of the pool are amazing. Omar and Jose Jairo fantastic bartenders with amazing personalities. We enjoying sitting at the swim up talking to them all afternoon. While at the pool we did notice a few guests being rude to the bartenders and snatching bottles of their hands. I hope this is something that doesn’t happen often At the French restaurant where we had dinner twice, Daniel and Angel went above and beyond for us. Extremely kind and knowledgeable, giving great suggestions. I really liked that the manager for the French restaurant runs a strict ship there because everything runs soo smoothly. He also kept checking on us to make sure we were satisfied with everything. The housekeeper for our room and turn down service did a wonderful job each time. Every single employee there is friendly, amazing and sooo hardworking. The hotel is impeccable! We truly were blown away and can’t wait to come back.

Definitely paid a premium. But they definitely made it worth it. There was someone constantly asking us if we needed something. Drinks were a little weak, Restaurant reservation was a bit annoying, but they did reach out to you to make sure you have a reservation. Definitely get what you paid for type of experience. We would stay here again for sure. Family of four, two kids under 10, we stayed a week before Thanksgiving and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

This property is beautiful. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Our room was great and the bed very comfortable. The pool area is great! The spa was my favorite…the whole experience from beginning to end was fantastic…I’d highly recommend Shanti for your massage. The food was delicious. It was fun seeing all the iguanas. The only bummer was they were doing some work on the property so strong paint odors and drilling noise but, it is the off season so I figured.
