We had a great room with fantastic beach views. The room for improvement would be that upon arrival the room smelled musty, which is to be expected for being around the water however they could have started or kept the fan running in the room sooner so that the air would circulate. We also felt there could have been some rugs around at different locations for the floor rather than just all tile to walk on. Finally, the refrigerator in the room did not work.

Lovely lobby area, great room, fun pool, right on the beach, staff helpful with activities.

Pool and common areas are beautiful and the food at the hotel restaurants was exceptional. The room was a little musty smelling and could have been better maintained (e.g., cracked tile in bathroom) Definitely rent a car. Hotel is quite far from San Juan and other sites and cabs are very expensive. Beach at the hotel is rocky and you will probably want to go to another.

Thank goodness for El Verde Bbq. Recently stayed at the Gran Melia PR. Cleaning lady was horrendous, she came to the room once in my five day stay. I had to hunt them down for towels and washcloths. Room floor felt sandy from our arrival. Grounds of the hotel are nice and well kept. Food at the hotel is expensive yet subpart. Here's a tip, rent a car and go to El Verde Bbq. Save yourself some money and eat good.

I stayed at Gran Melia on Feb 9-12 2017 with 6 other family members & we LOVED it, the staff was so friendly! We got in at 10 pm & were promptly checked in by Frances at the front desk she was such a sweetheart. The property is gorgeous, the architecture and the grounds is so beautiful. We had 4 rooms, my room smelt a little musty and they gave me an air purifier, which I thought was very thoughtful and helpful. This was the most comfortable bed, we all loved the bed in the room, the room was huge, it could use a little more upkeep, but it was clean, the shower worked fine, the toilet flushed and the tv had basic cable. We had included breakfast in our stay which we were very happy with, the menu stays the same, but we didn't mind because the food tasted great! If you have breakfast on property, try to go early, we went at 8 a.m because we are early risers so we did not have to wait to be seated, however, if you go later than 8:45/9 a.m then you may have up to a 10 minute wait to be seated. The staff was so helpful and friendly, we didn't have to wait long for our golf carts when we called, the property is big so these come in handy. The hotel is huge, and its a Caribbean island, there are lizards, iguanas, the beach is a little rocky, but gorgeous, and it may rain sometimes...this is NORMAL, the hotel cannot control these things. Rent a car with the Avis on property so u don't pay for parking and explore the island, life is what you make of it!

Room had a strong mold odor, stained sheets and dirty floors. I've stayed their before and it seems it's gone downhill. Don't know if I'd stay again

Slow check in, nobody in line but lady at front desk walked past several times without helping while I stood there for atleast 20 minutes. All other staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool and beach were beautiful although the pool was cold. Food at resort was very over priced. Paid over $80 for 2 people to eat at the dinner buffet!! Renting a car and going off the resort for food will save money! Only ate at resort one time and decided it wasnt worth it. Room smelled musty but was clean and comfortable. Beautiful place, just too bad they nickle abd dime you soo bad, they would probably sell mire food if it wasnt so costy - buffet food should NEVER cost $80. I give it 3 stars because staff were friendly, rooms were cleaned each day and resort is beautiful.

Nothing to do in the hotel but swimming pool and eating ... You can't swim in the beach ... If you want to go any place you have to take taxi from them about $80 so we rented a car ... Over all it is nice for older people and relaxing only .... We have to ask every day for either a towels or shampoo because the housekeeping forgot to leave them few times... We had to ask for changing the safe battery and wait for them over an hour to change it ....

Clean room. However terrible comfort (air conditioner, shower and beds)

I had a great time at this hotel and the security staff and the golf car driver's very friendly I will go again

Great time wish there were more food options only decent meal I got was off the resort. Staff always seemed annoyed but let you do what ever you wanted pools close at 5 but as long as you are respectful they leave it open all night (plus) will return.

While the grounds of this resort are absolutely beautiful, the rest of the experience was less than desirable. VERY LONG check in lines. Once you get to the counter they charge a HUGE "incidental fees" on your credit card in addition to the amount of the room itself. Be prepared for about an extra $100 added to that amount for "resort fees", whether you use them or not. My room smelled heavily of mold and there was mold all around the shower. I woke up every night being hot and my A/C being off so I can only assume it has an automatic shut off. Restaurants were way over priced at the resort. We paid for a late check out only to still be locked out of our room and questioned by security why we had lost our key. Didn't lose key, it quit working. Parking is difficult on the weekend.

The hotel and grounds are very nice, pool and ocean access superb. The amenities are poor, not enough to do for the kids. Very poor restaurants inside the hotel and the ones that are there are very expensive.

Beautiful grounds, wonderful setting, disappointing at the end of the day. Why? Night 1it rained, and water got into the room covering an area about 4 x 6. Not a big deal until I'm walking to the bathroom at 530 am and don't see the water, slipping on the wet tile and spraining my ankle. Day 2, ants are found all over the room. Day 3, keys don't work, the hotel operator promises to send someone with new keys but never does, and then ignores repeated calls by never answering the phone. So there is a ton of promise but the follow through stinks. No one apologized, no one offered anything or tried to make things right. They're over priced and not worth it. STAY AWAY

We had a short, overnight stay. The surroundings are wonderful and we enjoyed the scenery a lot.

Let me start by saying that this was our second stay at the Gran Melia. We decided to upgrade to the Red Level. We stayed a total of 9 nights. On the positive side, if you are looking for a quiet place with beautiful grounds, you will have a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the beach and the pools, particularly the Red Level pool. However, we had numerous problems with the staff. On our first day, we noticed that our mini fridge was not working. I contacted our "butler" and the red level lounge 5 times with no success. The second day I walked to the Red Level lounge to discuss the issue with the staff. Our butler came to talk to me. He was argumentative and dismisive of my concerns. He did say that he would take care of it. To our dismay, his idea of taking care of it was to give us a styrofoam cooler! This is supposed to be a 4 star Hotel so in my opinion this was unacceptable! We had a positive resolution after we contacted management on our 3 rd day and spoke with the director of security who not only took care of the problem but went above and beyond. He delivered a bottle of wine and treated us to dinner. Now, housekeeping... Rooms were never down before 4pm and once done at 6pm. Towels were often forgotten and we had to contact the staff to have towels brought to us. Finally, our son borrowed a basketball which was so old and damaged that it popped. They wanted to charge us 30 dollars for a junky ball. We are disappointed in the lack of professional staff at the hotel.

Nice isolated resort. Will need car if you want to go to a store or do things. Unless u want to pay for cab.

We thought were getting bit by mosquitoes or gnats, but we would wake up with bites we didn't have when we went to bed. Finally we put two and two together. Blood stains on the bed sheets when we first arrived, little brown things in the bed (bed bug feces or molted shells), and an overall disgusting room = bed bugs. Do not stay here even though the price is tempting.

We were very disappointed! We had ants in the room, after the first day we asked to have it fixed. They fumigated... And the ants came back! Then they didn't replace the towels, several times! They didn't sweep or clean the room either. More or less, they made the bed. Puerto Rico was beautiful, and the Resort beaches were fantastic! But prepare for the rooms to be a big disappointment! The restaurant's were OK, but the prices were ridiculous! Every where we went we felt they only wanted to help to get the tip, not to be helpful. I was very grateful to go on a vacation, and I did read reviews stating the same as what I'm saying, so I was a bit prepared. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to this place if they are looking for a fancy place, only good beaches.. sorry :-(
