The oldest date the site would let me choose for my stay was June 2018 but my stay was actually in early September 2015. I just happened to be looking on this site as I'm thinking of returning. And figured I should write a review. That stay was my first time out of the country (U.S). It was for humanitarian work; specifically a clean water project. (If you have a second, go check out Humankind Water - amazing company and the company I was out there with. Anyway, I thought the room was perfectly fine. I didn't really pay attention to the dated things, even though noticing stuff like that is part of my job as a real estate appraiser. I shared a room with another volunteer. Can't speak for her bed but mine was comfortable. I appreciated the air conditioner. My room overlooked the pool which was nice, but I honestly didn't spend much time in the room. When we arrived, each bed had a washcloth or something that has been shaped into a swan. That was really sweet and the gesture made me smile. I think I only went in the pool only once over the whole stay. The pool water was grossly warm (I mean, the Dominican Republic can get pretty hot), but it was still nice and relatively clean. At that time, the pool was only steps away from the sandy beach and ocean. And the ocean water was amazing. Plus it is a private beach and there were almost no other guests at the time. So my group had everything to ourselves! My package included food and beverages (including alcohol), and their outdoor bar was so nice. Specifically, the 2 bartenders I remember were extraordinarily pleasant. Especially the young woman (I forget her name). But she was lovely to talk to. They must have changed around the food menu since I was there. They did have hot food for every meal (some made to order), but it was mostly American food which bummed me out. I had hoped to try authentic Dominican foods. Based on the recent reviews, it sounds like they are now serving that at times. I didn't sleep well while I was there (I can't sleep well anywhere away from home). So I deeply appreciated that they put out coffee at 5/5:30am every morning. The coffee is fantastic by the way. And the milk/cream they provide is warm. Which made it the best coffee I've ever had! During the day there were a few vendors selling things at the entrance to the beach. They were incredibly polite. There is also a guy (I forget his name) who roams around; his job is basically to provide or connect you with whatever touristy things you want to do. But if you're interested in snorkeling, I would suggest going next door to the shed/cabin at the public beach. They take groups out on a boat and stop at several different great snorkeling spots. It's cheap and they provide you with the mask, snorkel, life vest, and flippers. All in all I was extremely pleased with the hotel and I'm trying to go back soon!
This small hotel is clean, friendly and a great value. We stayed here on average about 25 nights per year. The staff is always very friendly and responsive. They are always making improvements - there is still a lot of improvements to be made but every time we come they have done a lot.if you're looking for the party, prostitute type of place, this is not it! If you are looking for a place place where you can relax and enjoy this is the place for you!
Beautiful resort. We arrived a few days after a heavy. The waves were so strong, the beach surrounding resort was closed the couple of days. For a native New Yorker city gal, the waves hitting the rocks was a spectacular sight to see.. Ocean view room, sleeping to the sound of the ocean. Great array of Caribbean cuisine.
Stayed here for a quick visit. If your looking for a luxury resort this is not it however the rooms were clean. Enjoyed the stay here. The views and the sunset were amazing! Ps jump off the small cliff there lots of fun !

I will first review the Hotel and in the end, thank the staff of the hotel and its owner for my pleasant experience of living with them for 31 days. Food: The Buffet Restaurant serves Traditional Dominican fare, with a Chicken, Fish or Beef option every night. They have rice and beans and many vegetables. Their food was good, but after a few days, I had to learn to taste some and try out some of the food from restaurants in town. But they had good options for those with Allergies and they cooked you any food you asked for, right at the spot. They even let my do some of my famous Burgers with their staff in the kitchen. :D. Infrastructure: Imagine going to a hotel that was built in the 1980's, and its design stayed there, literally. Its decor and its feeling is of 1994. With big rooms, and tile floors, classic lighting and basic, classic bathrooms with tubs. It is not a modern hotel, but it is very well preserved and managed hotel. Everything is very clean. VERY CLEAN. There is a Buffet Restaurant, which serves all meals, either in their grand saloon or their BBQ area by the bar with its pool table and sea side views. There is a pool area with its own jacuzzi and sun tanning area. It has access to two areas of beach. It has parking for 16 vehicles and No personal laundry service. It is a 3-Star hotel with some higher amenities, thanks to its staff. Rooms: The Rooms are basic, with very clean spaces, that are taken care of even twice a day or more if you ask for it. All rooms have a King Size Bed with classic furniture and a TV set (Which I never turned on, because it was not necessary). Mine was a suite which had an adjacent room and its own Fridge, which you can stock with anything. The A/C was very well kept in the master room, but in the adjacent suite room, it was not, and this is where this hotel shines, their staff PURCHASED a Brand New A/C and installed it, while I was away, so that I could have good A/C in that room. All I did was say that is was hot, and they went out of their way to assure me that it would be fixed! This is what I call 7-Star Hospitality. Staff: I have nothing but gratefulness towards all of those who served me while I lived there. This is probably the best staffed Hotel I have ever stayed at, In my entire life. I would most definitely go back to this hotel, just for its Staff service. It was made that much more amazing because they went really out of their way to make sure they got to know you and treated you right. They learned my hours for being outside of the room and attended to it then, they brought in flowers and decoration for when my wife came to visit me, they knew what kind of soup I liked, and deliberately made it easy to get, they knew what allergies I had, and cleaned the room just the right way...my list could go on and on. It was truly worth every penny. This is what true hospitality is about. Summary: My first impression of the place was that this is the kind for hotel that was great in 1994, but that hasn't changed much since then. Yet I was not aware, that the most valuable asset of this place, was not its infrastructure, but something much more important...its people. I was incredibly well treated during my life in Sosua, because the staff of this hotel is really hands on with you. I knew everyone's name by the end of my journey, and I was treated like family. I have very fond memories from this stay, and I am very grateful for their services. I truly recommend staying here, and having your own adventures as part of the Sosua by the Sea family. If you have to choose where to stay in Sosua, don't choose, I doubt there will be a more pleasant choice than Sosua by the Sea.
Woman travelling alone. In my experience the staff was very happy and very helpful. Mostly male staff, saw only 2 women staff members in one week. Breakfast buffet was good. You have fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, juices etc. and of course an omelet station. Coffee was excellent. Tanning beds and area was nice, pool was clean, my rooms (I changed in the middle of my stay, because of my view being on the 1st floor right to the pool) were very clean and satisfactory. It is obvious that the hotel is going through renovation, because not one room of the four I saw was the same. Some were modern, some not or then some PARTS of the room was modern and then the toilet was old etc. They probably mostly renovate when something breaks but I also did see and hear a lot of renovating in one week. It is obvious that they are doing their best for everyone to have a nice time. I am very grateful, and I will return to this hotel if I go back. Earlier reviews made me smile a bit, because of course you will have a bad time if your attitude is bad! Yes they feed the birds or actually to be precise you can see drink glasses filled with grenadine for the birds to drink. I think it's sweet, nature comes close.
I and my wife were at this hotel on January 15th . For the price we paid we thought, it was going to be a nice place, but guess what we found?. On third floor, right on the main hallway, a very old water leak, old toilets all over the side yard and an old fountain without use, also birds eating the food. In other words this place was like a junkyard . Judge by yourself.
Breakfast is under all of any expectations. Birds eating food from the tables. Rooms are living worthy, shower room's are out of date. TV have no clear reception. I was surprised that Finnish Aurinkomatkat offering this hotel in them package.
The resort needs a facelift. The comforters and pillows are lumpy. They only give you one key even if it's a double room. The food is adequate. However, it's right on the beach which is private and the staff is really friendly.
