Hotel Cabaña del Lago Puerto Varas3.5 out of 5.0

Cabana del Lago is a large, prominent hotel in Puerto Varas overlooking Lake Llanquihue. There are excellent lake views from the restaurant and public areas as well as from each of its bedrooms. The hotel exudes a lodge-style atmosphere with lots of wood and stone as well as open fires and attractive furnishings. It is well situated to the centre of town. Our room was comfortable with a classic decor and well equipped. Everything worked well and we slept soundly. WiFi worked effectively in the rooms. Breakfast is buffet style with a good choice of hot and cold, savoury and sweet options. Basically everything that you might expect. The large number of hotel guests meant that some of the selections ran out quickly and were not kept constantly topped up. We ate dinner at the hotel on one night and found it underwhelming. You might do better to try one of the many local restaurants nearby though the best are a car/taxi ride away. Eating in the hotel is convenient but unexciting. There is a largish pool along with a kids pool in an indoor leisure facility directly opposite the hotel. The water was warm and it had water jets and an outside hot tub (though not particularly hot). Saunas (in the hotel) were out of commission because of refurbishment work. Cabana del Lago is a pleasant and relaxing place to stay and the lovely lake view is its real draw.
I went there last May with a friend. People were nice and the room was very clean. The view is amazing, the lake looks wonderful from the window. Even though is quite expensive, it worth it. Good location, good breakfast. The restaurant should improve more with some new food. I think The Menu was kinda poor. But the food was great.
Great view of the town. This hotel has an amazing indoor pool with a water slide. Rooms are very comfortable. The rooms use radiator heat and it has heated towel rack. Hotel is in walking distance from the main town square
We traveled to this hotel as part of a Gate 1 Travel tour of South America. The hotel sits on the lake in Puerto Varas and has nice views from the restaurant. The top floors of the hotel are the lobby, restaurant and the floors with the rooms go down the hillside till the final floor with the access to the road by the lake. While we had a view of the lake from our room we were on floor 2 and could also see the road and the people walking on it – ask for a room higher up the hillside. The room was OK. There was only warm – not hot – water in the sink in the bathroom. The handle on that same sink was hard to use. There were insufficient hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes/towels while showering. The breakfast was very limited and not enjoyable. There were no hot options for vegetarians who do not eat eggs. There was yogurt, but we found the yogurt in South America to be very runny. As part of the tour we ate at the hotel restaurant Mirador del Lago one night. It was one of the worst meals I have ever had. The entire group started with a tasteless onion soup and even salt and pepper did not help. For the vegetarians the main entrée was a vegetable frittata that was inedible. Finally the dessert was some type of unbaked bar made with dulce de leche that even our Tour Manager agreed was just bad. The kitchen just doesn’t know how to cook for vegetarians (or soup and desserts for that matter).
Good location overlooking the lake and bedrooms were fine. However the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner was really poor to say the least - service was appalling and food dreadful - one order had to be sent back at dinner - cold, no sauce etc. Staff run off their feet and very grumpy.- clearly morale was low.
The hotel was nice and the location was away from the hustle and bustle. The buffet breakfast had a lot of choices We were dismayed to find that get a room charged us over usd40.00 in taxes when foreigners in Chile are exempt. We asked the hotel for a refund when we presented our passports, but they said they did not control the money, so would like to file a claim for our taxes with get a room as everything had been prepaid through them. the welcome cocktail was nice and we enjoyed talking with the women bartenders who made suggestions on where to eat. They were friendlier than the front desk. We would probably go back there but would book our room on the hotel site as our friends were not charged the 18 or 21 pct VAT when they booked on their site.
Nice service, nice view, and clean rooms. I have no major complains. Free wifi in the room. If you want to exchange money, it may be a problem is you want to exchange more than $50 USD because their maximum is $50 USD. There is nice gift shop there too. Overall, I had a pleasant stay.
Thats the only good thing about the hotel unfortunately. The pool was located on a building in front of the hotel and was pretty nice heated to 27.5C. Now on regards of the rooms, it was OK nothing fancy as I expected for the price, what I did expect is to have heater inside (which it did) but unfortunately stopped working in the middle of the night. Every single night of my 3 night stay. Beware of this, they "fix it" the first night but every time I woke up it was cold as ice. If you're staying here also don't expect the wifi to work, it's terrible I have the same ubiquiti router at home and works great but they don't have enough to handle all the guests.
We arrived after the lakes crossing from Argentina and found a welcoming and excellent hotel right on the lake's shore. Some staff spoke english but all staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. Buffet breakfast was excellent even when under stress with big numbers as was the case when we there as they were hosting a big conference. We had lunch in the restaurant once too which was also excellent. It might feel that you are a bit out of town but it's only a very short walk along the shore line and you are right in the centre of town. It was the standout hotel through out our trip to Chile and Argentina. Highly recommended.
My wife and I stayed one night at this great hotel. The view of volcan Osorno and lake was spectacular from our room. Very clean and quiet. Nearby restaurants and bars. The price was very reasonable. They have a large indoor pool that we did not get to use but looked very appealing.
