What a hotel!!!!!!!!!! Beautifully situated in the heart of Charlottetown, PEI Walking distance to some of the best restaurants I have ever ventured to open the doors. The hospitality at these restaurants is "Bar None", great atmosphere and so accommodating. Great food and extremely large portions - 0 for 4 in one particular restaurant - The Hunter's Ale House - I could not finish the portion, nor the craving to refill the glass of ale. Great prices. Now, back to the Hotel on Pownal. The room price was very reasonable. The breakfast bar and menu was so pleasant and delicious, respectfully! The hotel hospitality was outstanding from the morning greet to the warm fresh baked cookies at night. Also, don't forget the happy hour with a variety of Gahan selections - My favs were Sir John A lager and Blueberry ale. Just a super place to stay. Definitely, going back to PEI and staying with The Hotel on Pownal. Great place, my friends!!!!
I stay here every time I'm in Charlottetown. They have hired great staff who work hard to find and do little extras that make a difference, like clearing ice and snow off of your car! I can't recommend them highly enough.
Stayed here while attending a meeting. Room was comfortable and had everything we needed. As mentioned in previous comments - bathroom shelf space is limited but it was workable. The other downside was the view of the brick wall - but we weren’t there for a view from the room. The fact that this hotel is centrally located and walking distance to attractions, shopping and restaurants outweighs the view. Great happy hour - free local beer tasting, adequate breakfast in a well appointed common room. Staff was friendly and accommodating - I was getting a cold and they provided a kettle for hot lemon. Bed was comfortable. Staff offered to help take our bags up as there was no elevator. Good thing there wasn’t an elevator - we could work if the delicious meals! The Hotel on Pownal will be our choice the next time we visit- thank you!
The hotel is in a great location and is within walking distance of several restaurants. Our room was clean with comfortable beds and furnishings. They had a free happy hour which was very nice and gave us a chance to try some of the local craft beers. Breakfast was good and had a decent variety. The cinnamon rolls were great!
We stayed here one night while taking in downtown Charlottetown, it appears to be a newly renovated hotel and was very clean. The furnishings were solid and the hotel didn't feel cheap. We had a bottle of white wine ordered with our stay and it was delicious.
This is an older hotel in downtown Charlottetown. Our room was clean, well equipped and very comfortable. There is free parking, a pretty decent breakfast and the staff were exceptionally helpful in directing us to restaurants within walking distance. Close to the water but not on the water. I certainly recommend this hotel for your stay in Charlottetown.
This is a great hotel. It is centrally located and our room was clean and cozy with comfortable beds and tasteful furniture. The breakfast was really good too. My only complaint with the breakfast would be that it had mainly carb options. But I would still give this hotel a top rating. I would stay here again.
As part of a fly drive package booked by an English travel agent we had been assigned a " petite double" room ......if we had been staying one night and had hand luggage we might have accepted room 131 but after being in it for an hour and having to close the curtains as the neighbours were putting their bikes away in their shed literally feet away we were overcome by claustrophobia ......I asked if another room was available ....we were moved without question ...room 236 was three times the size . Once we had changed rooms we enjoyed our stay .... The free coffee and muffins , the location in the town centre ( The Pilot House) was just yards away and the breakfast in the lounge . Be careful what you book and have a lovely stay .
Location location location. The hotel is walking distance to many of the sights in downtown Charlottetown which we took in on foot. We stayed two nights. While a bit run down, our room was clean and comfortable. There was a bit of a smell throughout the hotel which a fan in the bedroom helped with. We enjoyed the free evening samples of local beer and a couple wine choices. Breakfast was good quality and included a large variety.
The hotel is very central located, it has free parking, the lobby is really nice, and the breakfast is good (even if I'd like more savoury items, I.e. cured meats, local cheeses). The room is big enough and the bed was soft but comfortable. Now the dark side: the a/c is very old and really too loud to activate it during the night. The room door doesn't close properly and we had to force it every time. The windows don't open, just a small window at your feet, useless because it can't change the air of the whole room. Last but not least, the room had a very bad smell. We were staying just two nights and the first night we were very tired when we arrived so we didn't ask to change the room, but at the check out we informed the reception, because I don't know if all the rooms have this problem because of the carpet or only the n.r 222, but they should know it. Ah, don't forget that to go to your room there is no lift, only narrow stairs, so be prepared!
