Prague Vacations

Prague is a city with a long and architecturally well-preserved history. Visitors to the area can walk through Old Town's 13th century buildings and then take a trip to view Milunic and Gehry's modern Dancing House to view over 700 years of architectural development. On the way from one site to the other, they'll spot buildings from every major architectural period that occurred in-between.

In addition to the architecture, there's the cuisine of Prague. There's a bit of everything in the city, from fine Italian cooking to traditional Czech pub grub. The number of restaurants is constantly growing as the people of Prague develop a taste for the international. Even the most discerning of foodies should find plenty of opportunities to indulge themselves and be surprised at the results.

No matter when you decide to vacation in Prague, take an umbrella. Peak seasons are spring and autumn, with spring featuring blooming magnolia trees and fall with the changing leaves; you’ll find comfortable weather that's usually sunny. The city fills with tour groups during holidays, especially Christmas, New Year’s and Easter. Its stone streets are crowded and rates rise. For lower prices, visit during July or August when rates drop, but the weather can get unpredictable: anything from sunny and hot to cold rains can be on the agenda. Pack for variety at this time. The off-seasons, in January, February, and November to mid-December are cold, rainy, and snowy, but the city is appreciated without crowds.

The off-season in Prague is from November to March. For much of that time the city can be extremely cold, with temperatures as low as the mid-20s (Fahrenheit). While this keeps many tourists away, most of the city's attractions are still open, and the price for accommodations drops significantly. Early in the off-season, the city starts to fill with music from the large number of classical music productions in Prague's churches and music halls. Then, in the middle of the off-season, there's the annual fireworks display to celebrate the New Year.
