Wonderful getaway.

From the moment of arrival - we were impressed by the striking architecture and park setting. The staff and owners were welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive; ample breakfasts were delicious; and the location ideal for walks and scenic drives. Our own private residence – clean, modern, and roomy with well equipped kitchen, easy access to the lovely pool and sauna made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. We appreciated the excellent beds, generous towels, lovely views, and wonderful access for nature walks in the private park. We so enjoyed this peaceful and lovely lodging for our Furnas visit.

Beautiful grounds but expensive for what you get.

The staff is very welcoming, delightful and a source of information. The spa is rather small but free of charge. It's a great concept for travelers who want to self cater. The breakfast didn’t have the quality we found in many other hotels in Portugal and the Azores. There is no daily housekeeping. All in all if find the valie for money disappointing but... the grounds, which include Beatrice's garden, are stunningly beautiful.

It doesn’t seem many people opt to stay in the Furnas area but that is a mistake! It is a great location and a great hotel. There are 8 houses. We stayed in 3. It was clean and in great condition. The hotel grounds were prestige with a great pool, gym, hot tub, and sauna. Guests also get access to this gorgeous garden that is closed from the public 11 months a year. It was stunning. We took the breakfast one day and that was also fabulous with lots of great options including gluten-free if you need that. The houses have a full kitchen but only used it for cutting fruit and preparing picnics.

Very pretty place with private botanical garden. Not a lot of privacy, at one point an employee waved at me while I was inside. What felt uncomfortable. We didn’t spend time at the pool or outside as they was maintenance work both afternoons and it was so so so loud! Great location, cool space. Not as relaxing as I would like.

Veronica was an amazing relatable host who gave the best recommendations for hot springs, food, and the beach. The breakfast was local, fresh, shareable, filling, and delicious. It is definitely worth the small extra charge. We loved having a pool and hot tub! The bed wasn’t the most comfortable, but the spacious apartment made up for it. Would stay here again !

Everything about it was absolutely great. Our unit was spacious, clean and comfortable. The outside facilities as the pools, hot tub were perfect. The private garden couldn't be emphasized enough. What a privilege to stroll through your private forest, so well kept with a river running through it, absolutely magical. The owners are great, very helpful, attentive and super friendly. We will recommend Canto's to anyone we know coming to Sao Miguel.

This property was amazing. It went above and beyond our expectations. We got the whole little bunkie to ourselves and it had everything we needed. The pool was a welcome cooler option from the thermal baths in the area, and the staff there are very friendly and helpful. This was my favourite stay on the island, and one of my favourite hotels of all time.

This was a magical stay. What a surprise to learn that this stay gains access to a sixth generation adjacent garden (easily 3 acres in area) not available to the public and easily comparable in beauty to the Terra Nostra gardens. Imagine sitting under vast 200 year old trees listening to nothing but birdsong and the beautiful river running through the property whilst inhaling the subtle fragrance of azaleas and clean air. And having this to yourself! The houses themselves were brilliantly laid out and equipped with every convenience. It’s a family owned and operated property (the descendants of the original Doña Beatriz whose garden lies adjacent through a tunnel of towering bamboo). Everyone was exceptionally welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast baskets we ordered (delivered to the door) were heaped with so much delicious local bread, pastry, and fruit that we had an extra meal for later. Walk 5 minutes through a fairytale village to excellent and reasonably priced restaurants, the Calderas, Terra Nostra, and a hidden gem of a village park/playground if you decide to spoil your little ones (did I mention the hotel has 24 hour access to the beautiful pool, sun loungers, and wading pools?) Let the tots nap in the quiet house while you listen for them through the open windows and sip wine on your private patio. The two creative types I traveled with left inspired and recharged. I would go back in a heartbeat and stay for a week to enjoy the area!

This place was amazing! Really nicely designed compound. The views of the surrounding mountains were absolutely stunning. The breakfast was delicious. We really enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and sauna. The management and staff were wonderful. Very friendly and easy to deal with. My kids had a great time too!
